    Great video! Sometimes while I’m sucking up small gold when I squeeze the snuffer for the next round, a good bit of gold comes back out the straw and now I know why!

  • @NET-POSITIVE
    @NET-POSITIVE Год назад +3

    If you use a large diameter straw, take 2 needles and punch them through the straw in a cross nearest the tip and clip the leftovers. This will keep large rocks from being sucked up to clog the straw. This trick will only work with small flakes and not larger pickers and nuggets

    The timing on this video is funny as I was just using two snuffers to clean up fine concentrates in pans. Word from someone who has done this a lot. Do one pass to collect all the gold in the snuffer you can. Put concentrates aside for miller table. Then put that snuffer back in the clean pan, swirl the black sand to the middle, then snuffer that fine black sand out. You can get really clean gold for the vile this way. Some of my gold is so fine that it can get into the threads of my snuffer. Watch out for this.

    I have used condiment containers which tend to work very well for larger snuffer bottles.

    I wonder if you could adapt a Critter Water Bottle from a pet store.
    They typically have a one-way check valve that might be interesting to use.

    I know it's a little big, but a Gatorade sport bottle (green and orange) and stick a straw into the valve at the top. Strong suction and plenty of volume. Ready to see with the Orange lid.😊

      I did this exact thing but to change out the brake fluid on my old work truck worked fantastically and definitely had a ton of suction 👍

    Prior to plastic bottles, what have the old timers used as snuffer bottles?

    • @48thstateprospecting
      @48thstateprospecting Год назад

      Great question I wondered the same thing when I first started prospecting. The old timers didn’t use snuffer bottles… 1. because back then the gold was in large pieces and 2. because for fine gold they used Mercury to amalgamate it and then retort the Mercury out leaving the gold.

    I think Chris needs to develop a automatic snuffer bottle so with rhe press of button yum yum yum gold is sucked up. Hopefully another Vo-Gus original made from random bits and pieces.
    Love the video's keep on inspiring people.

    Thanks Chris that's useful. One advantage of prospecting here in England is that there is so little gold I haven't needed to use my snuffer bottle yet! Ha Ha. :o)

      It’s used whenever your gold is really small because small gold will float on top of the water if you don’t use it to break the surface tension of the water
