Near where I live is one of the richest gold deposits in North America. It was so rich that during the local gold rush the first prospectors only had to walk along the creeks and rivers and pick up the nuggets from the banks. They hammered the area pretty hard, but they were focused on the easy stuff (1/16 of an inch to 5 inch pieces). That means they dumped a LOT of the flour gold and small flakes in their tailings. However the also washed away a lot of the light stuff in the process so you don’t really find much in the smaller gravels and sands. So I go and check the tailings piles with large rocks and chunks of fractured bedrock. Often I have to move quite a bit of rock to get to where the gold has settled, but when a couple hours of work gives me enough material to run a sluice for an hour and pull out an ounce of flour gold, it is worth it.
I'm a new prospector and I've been studying a lot on youtube. Thank you so much! This info is super helpful, specially since Ive been going to the river and watching videos, repeat, so I get to put into practice the things I learn online. Thank you for a good video. I have never panned for for gold, but have secured gold from miners who recovered gold from quartz deposits, a different method of recouping gold. Back in the 70's and early 80's gold prices were high then, not as high as now, but it was worth buying and selling. I wish I were younger and so inspired to look for it again.
Hi buddy, I always check the outside bend across from any inside bend that I find gold on. The reason I do this is because if there is a large crevice or outcrop of bedrock on the outside bend, then there would have been some back eddies and low pressure areas downstream of said outcrop. And the crevice would act as a riffle. I like your ability to think outside the box. As always, thanks for you output
Outside bends tend to get blasted clear of any fines, but I always check the ones in my areas because those are the nugget or nothing zones. I’ve pulled some fairly decent nuggets out of those areas, but you also have to be in an area where nugget are known to be.
Got a secret for you Chris. I hunt around power poles in areas like Kilkivan and Eidsvold. The deep excavation has been done, and the piles of pay dirt are ready for the taking, easy to classify too. I usually get gemstones, but have hit gold in the right areas, usually where power lines hug the road over old river beds. Give it a try, I've got some nice sapphires and gold for my efforts.
I usually check where everyone else hasn't. I once mined out what was a miners dam back in the 1850s. I didn't realize what it was until you explained it in one of your Virgin ground videos. They had used unwashed dirt to make the dam and I was looking for an upper bench deposit. I'd have my kid clean down to the bedrock and he'd Bring it to me in a bucket. we cleaned up with a sluice box and took about five grand a month off that spot for two and a half months. We got the rest of the deposit too. The old timers didn't really finish it cause they were run out by the local first nations. Being Indian myself I just asked the local tribe where they would look and got hot tips from their history. That's what one gets for being polite and asking permission from the locals. Hey that was awesome, I appreciate that you took the time to share finding gold outside of the normal places that everyone looks. I have wondered if those areas would possibly hold gold, I also know that not all places like that will hold it. That is why it's called prospecting and not a big red arrow that says dig here for gold. Thanks again for the informative video Chris, stay safe and happy hunting.
Pretty cool video. Been meaning to go back to the town I grew up in. Can see where the river cut through almost a 100’ deep, and the river just moved exposing a couple acres worth of cobbles in a inside bend. Guy that owns that land for pasture is a old friend of the family.

We used to dive in the river with goggles and scrape the cracks between the stones and we would find little gold nuggets in there. We found many and me and my friend both made our wedding rings from that gold. We kept it in a metal container, some kind of green Chinese cough mints and we used it on me first, then, 2 years later, we made wedding rings for him as well. We still have 8 pieces left.
Nice one 👍 I like to search where people aren’t mostly but still go to known areas and practice what I’ve learned in the few months I’ve been looking, it’s pretty neat finding gold in a flogged out area even if ya gotta work a little harder 💪😁
When you get a long dry spell and the creeks are low take your pan and a table spoon and go along and clean out the crevices on the creek bottom and along the sides you’ll be amazed at the amounts of gold you’ll find. Saw a guy get over Two and a half ounces in one afternoon doing this and the beauty of it after a couple of floods in the creek you can go back and do the same again.
Ty! Lake greenwood sc! Our lake is filled almost up with sediment from Greenville sc, New construction...not our lake I mean the mouth of the reedy river where it meets the lake. How deep should I dig
We have a Highway Overpass nearby and I recently realized that there is gold along a concrete rainwater diverter. It presents a rough spine which catches gold. The wind only blows in one direction due to the way the trees have grown. The sand fill under the bridge was dredged up from the creek (reason for the overpass) almost 65 years ago. So, the creek sand (deep bottom sand) has had wind blowing in one direction across it carrying it to the rough concrete spine where so much of it drops out. I grab my Milwaukee M18 wet/dry lunchbox vacuum and try to suck it up. Not huge success so far however I was fascinated by the explanation I came up with.
I love the Placer Tools pan! Could you do a video tutorial on that pan? There's only really one I've seen and it's not much explanation. I would love to know how to trust it to pan quickly, etc.

This is a trick I use too. A lot of the creeks and river in my area get “moved” around by various means (earthquakes being the root cause of most of them) and it is always fun to go and check the old river channels for deposits. I also run guided trips on some pretty substantial rivers in my area and surprise the people I’m guiding with pulling gold out of most of them. It never ceases to amaze them when we stop for lunch, I grab my pan and in the course of about 15 minutes have a neat little pile of gold sitting in a pan for them to gawk at. My most successful areas are those where the river has moved from one channel to another.
@@akakscase no it is not a trick. doing my exploring around the desert you learn what to look for round River Rocks .if a river doesn't run through their the rocks are usually Jagged they're not round found an ancient waterfall as I dug down over the course of months going out there every weekend on vacation started findings of Round Rock's boulders you drill into the big boulders break them apart over the course of five years of doing it I guess i make that I pulled out at least 5 to 8 oz and it's not about the the gold it's the adventure. I still do go up there occasionally and Feingold still it's my old ancient waterfall site😍👌
I'm in SL utah. Not a lot of places in the northern part besides Tibble fork. We have "fly poop" gold in the creek. I've found that actually outside of the bends is really good with small gold it's floating in the column and gets smashed up against the out side of a corner as the water tries to switch direction quickly. But we also don't have pickers so we are looking for micron gold but its a place people won't look at because as you said everyone knows "inside bend" think out the box and you'll be surprised from time to time.
good to know gravity works always check that before you get to the wet part of the day....if it doesnt you need something other than a gold pan..... Excellent video Mr Chris . I am currently checking my driveway because. I am currently testing my driveway because I found ironstone in it....its not made of local stone and the bits that are , are glacial rubbles form the mountains on two sides ....I will let you know.
And just think, in a year gold has increased by $1,000 AUD and it’s set to increase by thousands more. Anyone who has the skills to find their own gold will be rich for life
While scouting for visual gold signal during the dark night I found a golden teardrop behind a small plant that was growing. I had heard of them and finally found one. They form directly downhill behind a plant in the shape of a teardrop 2cm to 5cm wide. Fuk Freedom Units. If I hadn't been so excited I would have remembered to take a picture of it. DOH!
This is the video I needed to inspire me to get out there in the early spring weather. In the rocky mountains we have lots of good stuff up here. And she is starting to thaw out.
Thanks, this was great info and highly entertaining! Glad you didn't end up dropping your phone in the creek! lol! Enjoying your adventures! I am keen to go gold panning but being in a wheelchair means being inventive! So I am going to test the dirt and rocks in my backyard and some bunnings sand too (the agates in bunnings look great aye hehe), with the pan I'm going to buy! Practice makes perfect and you've gotta start somewhere. Gold!🪙The Price Is Right!
From the sound of it you are in Australia. If you go to the websites Chris has mentioned there are several areas that are handi-accessible. Another option (one a friend of mine uses in America) is to get a smallish whitewater kayak (Pyrannha makes a few really good ones) that you can use to get up and down the creeks with and reach areas that you normally wouldn’t be able to. With a little practice you can kayak to a spot, dig and pan from the kayak. A few small modifications would allow you to haul quite a bit of gear with you too!
@@akakscaseYes, that was a great suggestion about the kayak. One of the open beach tyres could be the go. They also have spots to store stuff. Mark from Melbourne Australia
Have someone bring you buckets of material and pan it at your house. Last fall I brought a bunch home so I could pan all winter too. I wouldn’t mind grabbing a few extra buckets for a friend. 😊
Old was about $1300oz today. That seems great but once you figure in all the time and cost to extract the gold plus all the fees you are assessed your income would be closer to about $800 per oz which is okay if you invest about 20 hours per oz.
A local river here in NZ that I’m familiar with has a clay bed roughly 20m long & 7m wide. Then another piece down stream around the same size. It has formed quite a few “pockets” I guess. Or holes around and the circumference is roughly the size of a golf hole. Worth a go?
My best payday ever was up a hill side after a flood washed away half the back and a tree feel in the root system of that tree the was decaying bedrock I was getting 0.3-0.5grams a pan (estimated) walked away with 7.3grams after only a few hours panning (5-6hours) and it was a good 3-4metres above the creek
Cletus: "'scuse me stranger, but yer trespassin' on mah dert-farm" lol.... hahaha vogus....nice spot that....u know what I did last summer :D Extra Credit for ahh keeping things jusssst out of frame hahaha ....I know that 'shelf'....
This is pretty fun I really enjoyed this. I always have had amazing luck at Culver's on the side of the road before winter and after winter when they dig them out I just go grab a bucket fill it up and then go home and test the sample and I'm telling you I pull out three or four grams of bucket just off the side of the road after they dig up the culverts and get ready for winter and then at the end of winter after all the water's gone through I go through and do excellent
I liked how you used the flow of water to explain where gold could go. Never thought of the sticky clay spot. Well done!
I learned more from You in 9 minutes than from all the so called experts in 60 years..great panning there!!!!!!

I go the Perth mint 😎, it's never failed me yet 😂. Great video Chris
Perth Mint premiums too high, try ABC or Jaggards in Sydney
Thanks for sharing Chris.
As always a wealth of knowledge is our Mouldy lil Miner thanks Man!
good to know gravity works always check that before you get to the wet part of the day....if it doesnt you need something other than a gold pan.....
Excellent video Mr Chris . I am currently checking my driveway because.
I am currently testing my driveway because I found ironstone in it....its not made of local stone and the bits that are , are glacial rubbles form the mountains on two sides ....I will let you know.
Great analysis based on a very logical realities! 💪
Thanks for the great video! That was educational and looks like a lot of fun!
I check moss and roots just to see if I should further my investigation on new creeks
Great info. I wish I had a place to look for gold besides metal detecting on the beach.✌❤❤
And just think, in a year gold has increased by $1,000 AUD and it’s set to increase by thousands more. Anyone who has the skills to find their own gold will be rich for life
Thanks to you I contracted " gold fever " thank you good sir. Keep up the great content 👏
Always enjoy your videos, and Fern too..
DOH!
I love your channel we learn alot and u make it fun aswell so good on u .amazing job fantastic channel 👏 👌 👍
Thankyou, great suggestions! 😀
@@akakscaseYes, that was a great suggestion about the kayak. One of the open beach tyres could be the go. They also have spots to store stuff.
Mark from Melbourne Australia
@markfryer9880 thanks so much! Good idea! 👍
Have someone bring you buckets of material and pan it at your house. Last fall I brought a bunch home so I could pan all winter too. I wouldn’t mind grabbing a few extra buckets for a friend. 😊
This is great advice!
Good video well done 👏 useful information 👍
Old was about $1300oz today. That seems great but once you figure in all the time and cost to extract the gold plus all the fees you are assessed your income would be closer to about $800 per oz which is okay if you invest about 20 hours per oz.
Great content Chris. Being in the south of the UK we don't really have gold here but I will be going to north Wales to go prospecting soon.
Great video. Very informative.
If you find any small wooden boxes in the closets of older relatives, those boxes tend to be fairly rich in gold
Great video and tutorials! Keep up the great work!
Look where ever I can, first see if there is history of gold in the region! That really helps 😊😂
❤it
Great tips - I like the humour too.
I absolutely absolutely 💯💯💯💪💪💪%%% Love the Content
Great Content! learned so much in 1 video.
Fun Geology lesson! Thank you!
I haven’t but I’ve got some locations to look! Ever bit of information helps!
Did you borrow those waders from "Senor sweat pants?", you should do a sweat pants collaboration. 😂😂😂
They did on gad zee’s channel
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!!! After watching ur video I never ever imagine or anyone in my country to find gold so I find !!! In river 🎉🎉
Very amusing video 😊
I usually check Perth Mint. I find gold there all the time...Big shiny Bars of it
Very supportive tip thanks 😊
A local river here in NZ that I’m familiar with has a clay bed roughly 20m long & 7m wide. Then another piece down stream around the same size. It has formed quite a few “pockets” I guess. Or holes around and the circumference is roughly the size of a golf hole. Worth a go?
Very good info bud second spot was something id prob look at and ignore lol 👍⚒️🏴
Turon river at Sofala NSW…
How awesome is that place 😍
It’s magical even without the gold!
Cheers 🍻🍻🍻
Good advice, DGP .
How did you start prospecting? Where did you start?
I want to have a go buy im unsure of where to start
Thanks mate. Very useful. Is there gold deposits in the Hunter Region that you know o
Cletus: "'scuse me stranger, but yer trespassin' on mah dert-farm" lol....
hahaha vogus....nice spot that....u know what I did last summer :D
Extra Credit for ahh keeping things jusssst out of frame hahaha ....I know that 'shelf'....

What a great video !
Now I Know How To Find Gold In Any Kind Of Rivers Even The Ones In My Local Neighborhoods
Brand new, just got interested in this ten minutes ago. Can i look in say a pond or lake? Does it have to be moving water?
Aye I did find this helpful and I'm following ya now !
