BINGO!!! THAT'S WHY I USED IT! The One Star Leather wallet naturally flops open, so I needed to tape it closed during filming. Congratulations! I'll email you the gift card!
WE HAVE A WINNER! GAME OVER! THANKS! -- GAME w/PRIZE! ⚡- At the 7:40 minute mark you see a roll of blue tape next to me. Put in the comments what you think that was used for and if you're the first person to guess right, I'll email you a $20 Amazon gift card. So guess away!!
I switched to the front pocket Mitchell wallet in the 90's.... I carry 16 cards and 20 bills..... The wallet lasts about 10 years... Great value, very well made! They will apply your initials and the owner will hand sign it as well!!!! Makes beautiful gifts!
If the wallet is handmade, sourced, and made in the US; I will support that business even if it means a higher price tag. Small leather craft businesses deserve love too, especially during this pandemic.
My vote would go to the Dango M1 rail wallet. Has great features, usability, customisable and unique. Can tell the people that picked these love leather. Good video.
I have Tecovas original Calfskin Card Case, but recently they redesigned it and made it bigger/bulkier so i wont be going with them anymore. It seems that Anson Calder is the best fit for my needs. Will be buying all versions to see how they compare before deciding!
walletopia I think it would’ve scored more points if usability had more weight, because it’s the most versatile and accessible minimalist wallet I’ve seen - and they don’t even resort to floppy bands to give us easy access to cards (which, in my opinion, is, together with it’s lack of a space to store coins, what keeps the Frenchie Mini from being an excellent wallet both aesthetically and functionally). The Abrasus Small is elegant, formal and minimalist at the same time. I just love it! I’m just curious about one thing, Mark: remember the Abrasus Slim? Why did it score 4/5 for quality rather than the full 5 I expected on account of the leather? Not to question you or anything, it’s just that I consider buying it as a birthday gift to my father! Thanks a lot in advance! I may copy and paste this question as a normal comment just so you can find it more easily.
Love this. Would be cool to see both scores for all wallets going forward! If nothing else, you got people really excited about the blue tape... I still am using the Stow wallet... Hard to switch back to others in my collection at this point... It's so tiny!
Great review and comparison! Of the bunch, I would only vote for the Abrasus and One Star and the Lost Dutchman although I really dislike wrap wallets. I view them as a way to minimize manufacturing expenses by reducing stitching and edge finishing. I guess I am just not their demographic. :)
Fair enough! I was thinking about the Craft and Lore Port wallet this morning as I was finishing up the script for the carry-test I'll be recording. One of the reasons why I think they do so well is the simplicity. When a wallet gains complexity in either construction or features there is more to find wrong or could go wrong with it. I recognize that's only one angle on it as there are demographics who like the complexity (I'm one of those).
The Aviator is no bigger than a credit card, yet you have it shown as being the largest wallet of the group. Timestamp (13.:05). The actual dimensions from their website are Size: 85 x 54 x 5 mm
Hey Mark, thanks for that!
The type of leather I had on the Slim wasn’t as good as what I bought with the Small. More of an oversight on my part once I had more experience with the brand.
walletopia Oh I see! You probably bought the “embossed leather” version for the Slim rather than the “buttero leather” version you chose for the Small. Thanks for letting me know!
@@O_Rei Well it looks like my personal channel (which i haven't used in years, haha) had me logged in when I replied before. Nothing to get too excited about :)
What are thoughts on designer brand wallets such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, etc..? Just curious as I own a few small leather good items. Also keep up the great work!!
Hi John. They run the range of being constructed well to poorly and they mark them up several hundred percent due to the brand. That's their prerogative due to building a great brand name, but I find their design and innovation to be lacking. They're more interested in putting out run of the mill designs for profit.
@@walletopia Not in particular. I'll look for a style number but they are pricey. Found another guy who does something similar but at a more affordable price. I'll include a link.
for me the wallet could be made with any material, handmade or good design if it's price to features/usability ratio is bad, I wouldn't even consider it. so by following your theme if price does not matter or all same price, I would pick the most feature-full ones the One star 6 pocket or Das meer quickdraw.
Good approach! Some like simplicity, others complexity and features, it's all personal preference which explains why I will never run out of wallets to review! 😀
They’re great, but he’s decided to rebrand his company to “Open Sea” which is the English translation of Das Offene Meer. I kinda with he kept it as is
Just got the Craft and Lore Port wallet all the way from the U.S. to Peru, great wallet overall, really strong stitching and the Horween leather will certainly last a lifetime. Thanks for your insight!
No, it fell way down the list. With the price component removed it elevated several more above it. The Trove's adjusted score without price only raised it to a 42.
walletopia Ah I see. Well I’ll complain about something else then! 40 years old and never in my life have I cared much at all about wallets and now I have an Aviator Slide and Dango S1 on the way and I want the Trove Swift and the Stow and the Craft&Lore Port! Haha glad I found your channel man. Keep up the great reviews.
Compared to „classic“ wallets, those are still really cheap. I got a wallet that I no longer use because its far too big and heavy and that costs more than all of those together. Price is overvalued for something you carry around every day and a high price says nothing about „greatness“. I use a roik now and love it.
No, you're right 😂. The reason is that the name is not a phonetically correct name in Japanese, so it always throws me off. I expect it one way, it's not, so I have to think too hard about it 🙄
walletopia hello! Been bingewatching your videos! They’re so good. Im a girl though, so tue abrasus wallet looks the prettiest to me hahah (i know, shallow) hahah. Keep doing good work!

Blue tape is used to cast shades for the camera to see all those colors of the wallets on a white background.
Great idea Ali, but no.
Hold things down?
Argh..hmm. maybe to hold the black curtain in the back behind you?
HINT: it was used, soon after I started recording and the hint is that it was used with one or more of the wallets.

Yes they do. We have a load of awesome leather makers on Etsy where most get their start.
That is a mega episode, informative and enjoyable...keep up the good work👍🏼

What a fun segment!! Good video 😁
I purchased the Mitchell based on your review, it's a beautiful and very functional wallet worth every Robert Dinero . Cheers 👍👌

Any list of top gadgets to carry inside a wallet? Multitools etc.

The Abrasus Small is objectively the best wallet I’ve ever owned.
It's so well balanced. The review video will be hitting in 3 days. It's so good.

The Small is without a doubt one of the most well balanced, multi-carry wallet out there. Simply excellent.
The coin pocket that becomes hermetic when closed is really well designed. I’ve done such heinous crimes as shoving coins on a tight card slot... 🙁
Interesting spin on your scoring system!
Also obviously the blue tape was used as a question for a competition over a $20 gift card.
Very clever Tobias! But alas, no.

The Stow is awesome, one of the best honestly. Due to its inexpensive price its adjusted score wasn't too high. So tiny and so much capacity.
walletopia yeah it's great. Love a lot of wallets though.
Can you make a video on the Tru virtu click slide double wallet?

While I'm still trying to figure out the blue tape usage. @Mark have you looked at any ChesterMox wallets?

The Blue tape was used for fixing your wobbly chair.
Nope
I’m surprised you didn’t include the Carl Friedrik wallet.
I really like the Carl Friedrik line of products, but it was lower on the list for me.

I think the capone wallet should be in here. Compare the Michele wallet vs capone.
The Capone review came after this video. I'll run another similar video to this again which incorporates new wallets since this video was released.
Dimensions have to be wrong right? Aviator seems to be less wide than most, yet the dimensions don’t show that?
Now I see another comment about this. Answered my question. Sorry to bother. Great videos!
Yes! You calibrated the camera colour using the Blue tape!
The Blue tape was used to keep your legs from jumping due to the excitement of making this ‘top 10 video! 😬😀

The Blue tape was used for repairing a wobbly camera tripod
Thankfully no.
You used the Blue tape for holding up that rear Black screen as it needed some tape on it!
The One Star 6 pocket wallet is sooooo beautiful. Too bad that I need a wallet which can handle coins.
Yeah, I have the same problem. I live in Germany and we often use coins.
