Truly never respond to videos of strangers on the internet but can no longer watch your musings without thanking you for your time and thoughtfulness. So many of your recs have pleasantly nudged their way into my TBR only to be swiftly passed on to my recently read (Megan Nolan- IS THAT GIRL). Your videos are a delight and your use of fully embodied language to deliver your ideas is unmatched. Praise-rant over. 😅
WAIT! 😭Omgosh this is the nicest thing! I am so freakin' delighted that you picked Nolan up (she trullllly is that girl!) and ugh! This honestly made my morning! Thank you for your sweet sweet comment, and for hanging out 😊 I appreciate you!
I love this version of a wrap up! Please continue to tell us about essays or art exhibits you’ve read in the month ❤️🫶🏾
Thank you for this! Sometimes Im like no one cares haha, but its fun to be intentional about mediums outside of just bookish ones!
AHHH! Love how involved literature is in your life! The live book chats! Talks on translation! Being a woman! Walking through heavy rain to hear the voices of women! Love that literary life is all and well in NY
Hahah trying to break out of the reading as a solo activity mindset!!
1) oohhh, you used a whole bunch of very attractive descriptors in yr break-down of catalina... will definitely check out
2) yr monthly wrap-up formats + content + editing is absolutely some of the best around. i'm always happy to just watch a straightforward chat with someone whose thoughts are interesting, but you deserve a special commendation for how you've expanded on that format
I love feeling like a writer had a lot of fun writing a book, and thats totally the vibe you get with Catalina. And awww this is so sweet, I appreciate you Sophie! ♥️♥️♥️
If you want to read more Latinx stories here’s a rec, i haven’t read it yet but it sounds very interesting Las Madres by Esmeralda Santiago, it’s a story of three mothers named-Luz, Ada, and Shirley-and two daughters, Graciela and Marysol. And how one secret ties them all together. I saw it at Barnes and Nobel a couple months ago i just haven’t got around to it yet, but it has good reviews so maybe you’ll like it
Ah yes, people love las madres!
Absolutely love the idea of a commonplace entry via video ❤ Bookish creators contain multitudes and I love that you celebrate consuming all different forms of media!
Also, I think I really need to pick up Victim this month! I’ve been seeing it come up in wrap ups and it sounds like such a fascinating mix of Yellowface by R. F. Kuang and the film American Fiction, but in a way that’s completely original and stands on its own. (I say that as someone who hasn’t read it yet, though!)
I want "bookish creators contain multitudes" framed and hung on my wall! Appreciate you, Emily!
And YES! Book club kept making connections to Yellowface (saying it was yellowface, done better -- book club did nottttt like yellowface 😂) Could totally see the line with American Fiction too. I actually wish it was moreeee like AF (I felt like AF was dicey and difficult to untangle which I ADORED). But yeah, Andrew did a lot of cool stuff in this one. Let me know if you do read it, I'd love to chat with you about it!
Kat! You’ve made my Thursday. Love your videos so much. :)
Reading Cultish at the time when I did was a wild ride. I’d just gotten out of a pretty harrowing friendship, and one thing Montell does well in her book is dissect the language of cults which is the language of power and its acquisition, its hoarding. It helped me explain what occurred to me on a personal level while she dissected how these dynamics work on a group level. To me it was a powerful book. I hope more people pick it up!
More Oyler drama?!! I am so out of the loop. Reading material for days. 😈 *me soplando the piping tea*
Hi Jackieeeeee!
Ay amiga, you're so sweet! And wow wow, totally. I really love when books unknowingly (and unintentionally) help us put words to difficult things. Im sorry about that friendship but am so happy to hear you were able to lean on this book for clarity.
And GIRL! I still have to read the Jia takedown she wrote, but piping is RIGHT 😂
@@katsfieldnotes that’s one of the reasons why I read for sure, to put words to all kinds of feelings and experiences. The hobby that just keeps giving! 🥰
So nice graphics-pictures about Emily Henry book, thanks🤩🤩
Hahahha I was confused even when editing, and Ive read the book! So graphics were a must 😂
the funny story review was delightful
hahha thank you! 😂
I just love to watch your wrap-ups.
Awww, thank you so much I appreciate this!
indelicacy sounds great as an audiobook it just sucks that the audio isn't available in the UK. Those essays are fascinating - lovely format for a wrap-up ❤
Oh, that's so unfortunate! It really is a wonderful audiobook listen, I hope they remedy that soon 😭 And thanks so much! 🥰
So happy I found your channel I love how you structure your reflections 💞
Hiiiii! I'm so happy you're here ☺️ thank you for watching!
i love this style of wrapup! so glad your channel was recommended to me by youtube
Awww happy we crossed paths! 😊♥️
Loved your hot take on the tussle of the book world. A fab wrap up of books and memories and more. Lovely to see you hung out with Sophie, I’m not jealous of you both at all 😉
Love that the book world gives us some drama to chew on haha. And she is an absolute delight!
Catalina is next on my TBR!!! Can’t wait! Especially after hearing your review!
Thank you for dropping some essay recs as well! Love to have some extra tidbits on deck :)
Cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it! I also feel scared cause I feel almost protective of Catalina! I hope everyone loves her as much as I did 😭
I just discovered you and I love your videos😭 i love that you recommend so many things and so many variety.
Hiiiiiii! Excited to have you in the family haha! ♥️♥️
I can't believe I've never seen any of your videos before! I LOVE the way you talk about books; plus your reading tastes definitely overlap a lot with mine! I'm so excited to watch future videos.
Awww haha, thank you so much! Very excited to chat books with you here! 😊♥️♥️♥️
14:08 you said this so casually lmao💀 this is was so fun to watch!! also i love the little diagram when explaining funny story, it was very useful
LMAOOOO oops 😂🤭 And yeah, I was confusing myself with all the characters, I was like to anyone else its going to sound like absolute gibberish, we need visuals 😂 thank you for watching, love! ❤️❤️
I’ve been looking for a book like Catalina too!! Thank you so much! Literally just ordered my copy 🥹
Omg yayyyy! Truly hope the publishing gods hear us and give us more latinx litfic. And I really hope you enjoy it!! Our girl Catalina was a TRIP. Such a fun, smart book!
you have me soldddd on catalina!! i just filmed a video about books releasing in the second half of the year and i mentioned it because of you!! your experience with amina cain is such a great example of how important timing/format can be in our reading experiences - makes me wonder how many books i felt lukewarm about that i would’ve actually loved if i picked them up at a different time.
your face when you mentioned lauren oyler’s essay about living in berlin 😭😂 same here
i loved the little “for readers who enjoy” popups in this!!
Omg yes, Im learning more and more how hugeeee an impact timing has on reading! It also scares me to reread favs for the same reason 😅 And eeeep! Catalina is a trip! Karla has such great voice
i feel like you might enjoy committed by suzanne scanlon! about her as a young woman struggling with her mental health and her journey as a writer. unique structure & lots of discussion of the female writers who inspire her.
Hiiii! Ok I'm looking this up right now because it does sound very interesting! Always down for writers exploring writing in a unique way. Thanks so much for sharing this!
i always enjoy your wrap ups and the sharing of essays! i wanna recommend how to end a love story by yulin kuang, she’s the screenwriter for the emily henry adaptations and this her debut book that came out this year! ❤
OK WAIT I HAVE THIS ONE ON MY LIST! The audiobook is waiting in my library, Im so happy to hear it being recommended! It sounds wonderful! (I think Im holding out for it as a vacay read, but this is making me want to shift it up myTBR lol)
How did I only find out about your channel now… Kat I love this so bad
Omgosh hi Sunny!! I appreciate you! 😭♥️
I love all of the content in this. I just want to check everythinggg out.
The internet is giving us tonnnnns to read up on! Thank you for watching ☺️
I’m so sorry I missed the Danielle McKinney exhibit. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Im really hoping she does another because Id go back a million times. Her work is absolutelt stunning
Fantastic Video ..
Thank you so much! ♥️
Kat!!! Why am I cheesing like that!? haha so cute! I love going to literary events together (will never forget that rain)! Ummm also how did we not discuss the age gap article?! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it via here because you gave such a thoughtful generous reading of the article (unlike me 😆) ... RUNNING to read 'the bad art friend.'
p.s the pull quotes section/roast was hilarioussss
HAHAHHAH! But yes grateful to have a perpetually down author chat buddy!! And im hype for our summer adventures! NO CUZ WHY WAS THAT SO WILDLY WRONG BUT SOOOOOO ABSOLUTELY ACCURATE. Chefs beso, man. Such a good essay
😂😂😂
I’ve been gone for a while and missed your videos.
OMGOSH HI THERE! Im glad youre back (and hope all is well!)
yaaaay for getting out of your reading slump!!
ugh thank u a mill for the copy of catalina bc as soooooon as i’m back home, i wanna pick it up!!
here for you goin back to amina lololol so funny how giving something another chance can really change how you feel about it!
omg obsessed with the lil graphics of the peeps in funny story 😂
ooo didn’t even know ex swap was a trope ok ok learned something today
ahhh yes normal gossip!!
HA her height was the first thing i said to her upon meeting her 😅 she must get that a lot 🙃
Hahaha, Im sure she does! I feel like we don't talk enough about the unexpected delight of someone's height when meeting our parasocial friends 😂 I met another booktuber who was taller than me (and Im a tree) and could not shut up about it lol. DELIGHT!
!! I somehow only commented on this video in my mind and not irl 🙃😅 i think i was saving my comments all in one gulp towards the end and exited thinking i had sent it your way lol let me try again!
0:48 yes!! So much more for Nolan in the future and to see her name firmly displayed among the greats - already one in our minds for sure, we’re in the know!! 🤩🙌🏽🌟
3:57 i finally started it this weekend!!! (ikik 🙈) and low key debating whether to finish it tonight or prep for pub day tomorrow so I’m going to see what the universe has planned for me and I’m just waiting for that scene you mention in the car! 😅 I didn’t believe it before I read a page of the book but now that i know a little bit about Catalina, she just might be the character to do it and I want to read that on the page 🤭 also no news on a launch event for Catalina yet as far as I know? but hope we can both be in attendance together!!
8:48 your review of Emily Henry’s book is everything - love the visuals you provide us readers that sets the perfect scene for us to understand the characters and the situation they find themselves and the ride we’re in for! 🌟
14:08 yikes!! 😬 I need to find time to read these articles at work but so glad you shared some snippets with us (insert gif of guys leaning back, saying damnnnnn)
I am HOPING I am here for that event! Please if you hear anything about a date, let me know! We need to round out this full-circle moment and experience Karla together!
Hi beautiful Kat! Rice here!! Do you listen to the books on audible or Libby?
Hi there! I listen to most of my books on libby or LibroFM. And more recently, Spotify actually!
Yeah, Megan Nolan not making the shortlist was silly.
SO SILLY. Ive heard there are like two books that people are scratching their heads at it making the shortlist, which makes me more mad for Nolan but ... 😪
Catalina…I gave it 3.5, guess I like plots 😂 it started well, but it just started losing me along the way.
Hahahaha no I def make sure to recommend it with plotlessness in the forefront because I know it wont be everyone's tacita de te 😂 I was IN for the ride though, she was a fun narrator
3) why do i look like yr wife whom you loved so much but who died tragically young in flashbacks/gauzy found footage at the beginning of a movie?
That storied melancholy hand wave is quite literally everything to me 😂
hey kat it me orlando ODogg ReadsBooks is my reading channel its a work in progress you have such a cute accent
