    Thank you for this video. I just harvested this mushroom and was hesitant to eat it because all the videos I've seen until yours were of the other species and almost turned me off from it. Mine is whiter just like yours. Can't wait to try them now.

    Tonight we sauteed some (L. Cincinnatus) in olive oil with fresh sliced garlic, thyme, S&P and added a little white wine to the pan and boy was it amazing. We also found the motherload of black trumpet mushrooms yesterday and picked so much we had to dehydrate them. What a great season for shrooms!

    Hey great video !
    important to note it’s not accurate to say it mostly grows out of the ground. Chicken of the woods grows on hardwood trees - mostly oak, but also cherry or beech. Sometimes conifer stumps, especially west coast and Canada.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  3 года назад +2

      I think you're talking about chicken of the woods in general and you're right... I would be incorrect however the video is about the Cincinnatus chicken of the woods and it only appears to be coming from the ground... its actually growing from a dead root or buried log and that is mostly how you find this variety, it can also grow on stumps and down hardwoods but not as often... you will not find the Cincinnatus mushroom growing out of a live tree... it will not act as a parasite like other chicken of the woods mushrooms. The cincinnatus is a saprophytic only mushroom but you still have a good point... chicken of the woods in general will grow on oaks, beech, cherry and conifers, alive and dead trees. I sure that was clear as mud but anyway... Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!!

      I don’t think many people know about this one. I just ordered a spore block from the other one that grows on logs. Now I’m looking for this variety.

    What’s the difference between the 2 mushrooms your taking about?

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  3 года назад

      Other than color and substrate... not much. The cincinnatus, I think taste better but both are very good. Both are Chicken of the woods just a different variety. I think there is roughly 26 different varieties throughout the world... some better than others and some are poison depending on the type of tree but in my neck of the woods Ive only found two different types. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!

    Love it! Keep the vids coming! One question, why in the world are ya using a pan that gives off metal flaking in your food? Those Teflon pans are really bad. ( saying with a smile on my face, not being mean.)

      Touche... We were just talking the other night about that very thing! Teflon is bad for you, I guess I need to make time to buy some new cookware. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the reminder.

    I saw a group of orange mushrooms growing on a nearby tree right next to my apartment, but I can’t really tell if it’s the same kind, since it’s all clumped together.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  4 года назад

      It's hard to say without seeing it.... If it's growing in shelf like clusters it's more likely to be laetiporus sulphureus. I would start by seeing if it's a polypore or a gilled mushroom. If it's a polypore you're chances are getting better that it's a chicken mushroom. maybe take some pics and see if you can id it on the internet. What ever it is be 100% sure before harvesting and eating it. We don't need any mishaps. Good luck and Thanks for watching!!!

    • @jasonpark1987
      @jasonpark1987 4 года назад +1

      Wild Meat Let's Eat it’s in clusters, and I think they don’t they have gills. But my question is that don’t these mushrooms grow on dead trees? These mushrooms were growing between the bottom of the tree root, and the dirt.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  4 года назад

      @@jasonpark1987 they qrow on dead and alive trees however they are more prevalent on dead or dying trees. Laetiporus cincinnatus can look like it's growing from the ground but it's not... it's fruiting from a root or buried log. Usually when it looks like it's growing from the ground it's in a rosette like this video and not shelf like clusters but if it's half on the tree and half on the ground it's hard to say how it will grow. I hope that helps.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  4 года назад

      Yeah... it can be a challenge sometimes! Are you talking about this type of chicken or just chicken of the woods( any type). If you have a good sense of direction, get off the trails and make your own path, also try going out 3 to 4 days after an all day rain. The cincinnatus is best found in early spring and fall... not so much in the summer. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!

    Chitin=bad?

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  5 лет назад +1

      At the risk of over simplification Chittin = hard to digest. Chittin is in all mushrooms... some have a little and some have a lot. Chittin does not equal bad. In fact... When it come to medicnal mushrooms almost all of the good stuff or medicine will be found in the chittin. Good question. Thanks for watching!!
