Best video on removing the battery.

Pretty simple process. But I’m a visual person and always like to see how something is done first even if it is easy. RUclips is great for this, so many great how to videos from all the motorcycle RUclipsrs. Thanks for checking out my video. Have a nice day!

I've used the same hugger' on 2 different GSs' ( 1200 and now the 1250) moving it from one bike to the other. Absolutely no issues.

Thanks for sharing Garry. I haven’t had any issues either. Guessing others had a defective one or they didn’t follow The torque settings

My 1200 RS has had the Puig rear hugger on it for 22,000 miles without any issues. While cleaning the bike I always give it a good inspection, because like you, I've read the complaints on the forums.
I've been charging my battery with a Battery Tender lead for 2 years without any electrical issues. Don't know why BMW put that warning in the manual.

Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciate your insights. I ended up buying the proper tender for the BMW. I really like it and used it over this winter for the days I wasn't riding. My hugger is still no problems. I really think that some didn't read or follow the torque settings or occasionally check all the bikes screws and bolts to ensure they aren't loose. My lower engine fairing almost came off. However, I caught the screw was really loose prior to heading out for a long ride. Lucky I did that.

Good presentation, especially at the critical moment of putting the battery back again! But, the easiest way of charging is to install the CTEK Comfort Connect, then you don’t have to repeat the whole process again of removing a battery, whatever make of an Mc. Just plug & charge!

G’day, just viewed your video, you’re right, BMW want you to buy their charger which is just a CAM-bus charger hence the warning you’ll destroy your bike if you use anything but.
I have been using an OPTIMATE 4 dual program battery charger set in CAM-bus mode on my 2020 R1250RS for the past 14 months and on a R1200RS before that without any issues. I plug the charger into the DIN socket on the bike using an Optimate cable with a DIN plug (purchased separate), no need to connect leads to the battery. The charger is designed to be left connected to the bike when garaged to charge, test and maintain the battery.
A lead acid battery will deteriorate if not charged regularly. That is, it can becomes sulphated, a deposit of lead-sulphate compound forms on the lead electrodes of the battery.
The grommets of the battery cover being pushed out may be an issue because on my bike there is a small zip tie around each one holding them in place. Don’t know if this was done at the factory or by the dealer.

Good to see, my bmw sits on an optimate4 canbus version -btw what screen are you using - oem dk smoke or another brand. I find the standard screen to be quite noisy

    • @Texas2Tires
      @Texas2Tires  2 года назад

Hi Jon, Thanks for checking out the video and the comments / question. I’ve since added an SAE cable which powers my QuadLock and can double as a hookup for my smart trickle charger. My screen is a Puig Dark Smoke. It’s a bit better than the stock as it’s pretty much the same size. I mostly bought it for aesthetic reasons. My friend in Houston added a wind spoiler which helps to create a better still air pocket. However to fully rid yourself of noise, you’ll need to get a tall touring screen. However I don’t like the way it looks as I want my RS to be more of a sport bike and not a touring bike. Have a great day and thanks again for checking out my video. I have a video on my wind screen. Nice video on battery removal... However, why not just use a canbus charger on the DIN plug, really not expensive and soo practical. Also, no issues with the maintenance light needing a reset? Had that with my f800st, had to go to the dealer to reset it after replacing the battery.

I’ll look into it. I bought this charger because it wasn’t expensive and wasn’t sure about charging while attached to the bike per the manual’s warning. I’m still learning all the ins and outs of the bike. Along the way learning a bunch too from people like you. Thanks for the suggestion. Merry Christmas!

I use Ctec Max 5.0 for charging but I just plug it to R nineT without remove battery. On my bike I'll having to remove tank to been able remove battery. On my country is now -10*C (14F) and he is on not heating garage :( Also I have "same" Puig hugger :D

Get a battery tender cable. I've used it without issue on my RT and RS.

    • @Texas2Tires

Thanks for the comment John. I have a battery SAE connector that I could directly connect to the battery. However, I was a bit nervous about using it because the owners manual said not to do that. Seems shouldn't be a problem as I know of many people, including you, that use the dedicated SAE cable without issue.
