You nailed it Carter! You are wise beyond your years. Caitlin has exposed their victimhood lies and when confronted with the truth, they became even angrier and even more unlikable. It is tough to watch people so tortured by their existence. But those who embrace the new attention and how Caitlin is bringing will be better off for it. Come out of the dark and into the light Caitlin is shining on you.

Carter! Did you see Sides comment today about trying to continue what they did last year, in trying to get the ball to the post? I've noticed Sides doesn't get excited about Caitlin's 3's and was talking with another commenter at another video about this. He said he noticed she seemed unhappy when Caitlin made the 3's in the game. I told him I noticed the same thing in another game. Every time the Fever made a layup, she stood up and applauded. After Caitlin would make a three, no applause, just a look of 'well, it's a score.' I hope Caitlin can hold on to her game, but I'm afraid Sides wants to turn her into a passing and layup and short-shot player. I think Sides' by-the-book old-school post-centric approach is going to remove the excitement from Caitlin's game. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not the only one seeing this.

In a 2017 interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune, Wiggins revealed more about what led her to retire from basketball. Calling the league's culture "very, very harmful" and "toxic to me", she alleged that she had been bullied on the court throughout her WNBA career for being heterosexual and nationally popular. Wiggins added, "I wanted to play two more seasons of WNBA, but the experience didn't lend itself to my mental state." During the interview, she remarked:
Me being heterosexual and straight, and being vocal in my identity as a straight woman was huge. I would say 98 percent of the women in the WNBA are gay women. It was a conformist type of place. There was a whole different set of rules they (the other players) could apply."[16][17]
Wiggins' remarks led to a major backlash from many WNBA players and other sports figures, but she largely stood by them. She did clarify her "98 percent" remark, saying: "It was my way to illustrate the isolation that I felt personally. I felt like the 2 percent versus the 98 percent."[18]

Agree. The product has not been entertaining. I'd rather see athletic play than physical play. I can't believe how many layups get missed. Other sports adjust the rules to create a more entertaining game (NFL, MLB). WNBA just assumes the audience is wrong and should like whatever they have settled for as the best style of women's basketball that is possible in the universe.

When the Bully Club came at Clark, they didn't realize that she has people backing her who are not like other fans. This Bully Club has a sub-cultured offshoot of feminism theory (as Carter accurately observes) designed to serve their particular ''brand'' and lifestyles. They've believed that they are a hybrid, where their aggressive feminism & minor sport fame can insulate them... They quickly took over the WNBA, 25 years ago, instilling a brand of bully ball that is barely in the spirit, let alone the sport of basketball. So people quit watching. We could sense there was something wrong, but with no traction in the zeitgeist we left the league to it's cobwebs and dust. (That was our mistake, unaware we were leaving Candace Wiggins, Sophie Cunningham, the rest to the wolves.)
This suited the Bully Club. Bullies like to be hidden so they can do their dirty work in private. The WNBA Bully Club was able to reap the small rewards (endorsements) all for themselves, leaving the rest of the players to fight over the scraps. They Institutioned Abuse. Each new rookie class must take the abuse, then take a knee, and is finally accepted when perpetuating the abuse on to the next generation. The public stayed away. No one wants to see women bashed, concused, broken, abused, nor the emotinal fraying that comes with the abuse. (nor the poor ball play where layups are missed while avoiding smackdowns).
I believe that there has long been a silent majority of players who wish for a league of normal play and sports(wo)manship. But they have had no one to back them up, until now.
Something is different now. Clark has, through enduring the vitriol and abuse they put upon her, exposed them. They have been trying to break her. But they won't. Her roots run too deep, she knows who she is and - the problem for the Bully Club is this. We are the source of those deep roots, we have a deep cultural heritage (womens ball & integration from 1895, girls from after WWI - we've long made fair opportunity our labor) we aren't the usual fans. We are loyal and enduringly supportive of Clark just like she is one of our own daughters or nieces... And we abhor unfairness and even more bullying and abuse.
Maybe the WNBA Bully Club thought it normal, or that they could make it normal with the woke double-speak cover, and that they could bully forever and just keep going. We don't abide by bullies. Never have. Not once. We won't now. We don't abide by the abuse of Clark, or of any of these women. Clark is the tip of the spear, but we are behind her. This is the silent majorty now coming into focus. This is the Iowans, but also we are just a part of the staff, connecting with those who recognize - through the old roots - those ties which us all together. People from down the road, and from far away, recognize this familiar call to tradition, loyalty and standing up for what is right. We recognize shared values, Christian values, and a heritage built on shared sweat and blood. We haven't been hearing this call enough in recent years, through all of the noise, sadly the clear Call feels all too uncommon. But that is changing. We are becoming less silent. We are coming to terms with our social connection - even through media. (Voices like Carter, and many other good people help this immensely - keep this in mind as we must support them as they hold up a light for all of us).
Clark has been the Canary in the Culture Mine, and while she wanted to just share her beautiful song (sport) she was tasked with more. On her path she has revealed to us how toxic the air has become. For this, well, they are trying to punish her. They've tried to trap her in a cage for this, but the opposite has happened. We have come 5 fold, and the cage is really now held in our hands. Clark senses us, behind the bully club. It is important that we build a voice of clarity, for her to call upon in those moments when her own confidence might wain. It is important that we offer her support, and look for what resolutions might keep her from harm's way. For harm her, or us, they will. They feel they must. For they won't give it up the power. Their little cage power has made them feel big, especially as they trapped each new generation, bindind them with their abuses and egos. They won't give it up, the WNBA. They' won't even share it. They'd burn it down before they would share it. However, that is not up to them. There are more - all of us, including owners, corporate sponsors, leaders, all of whom will listen to us. Especially if we compel them to. It is important that we Call together the best among them (for there are exploiters hidden in every circle linked to this story).
They kept Clark off of the Olympic team out of Fear. Fear that the world would see the Olympics as a passing of the torch to Clark. Fear that this would be the end of the Bully Club. So they froze her out - against tradition, against reason. Doesn't matter. The torch has already been passed. It was passed in '23 when the world saw great sport, great skill, and great team work in women's basketball - like they had always wished for. The time of the bullies is passing, if we make it so. While the other rookies are not as strong (yet), they will eventually fall in line with Clark's lead (think of nice players, but not championing characters like Brink, Juju). The new era is coming.
Hopefully the old Bully Guard won't fight too hard. If they do, well, as we see, every time they lie, twist, yell, or lash out, they only sink themselves further into the quicksand of their own stink.

The number 1 reason Caitlin is not welcomed by the WNBA is the players feel Caitlin gets more attention than she deserves because she IS WHITE. That is it. Both the black and lesbian players feel their accomplishments have been ignored and devalued. They are jealous because she is WHITE. If everything was identical, everything: family, education, general appearance, game, personality, except she was black, Caitlin would note have HALF of this following. I am NOT trying to be mean spirited. It is beyond a sports phenomena....Caitlin is a Cultural Phenomena. And to have half of Caitlin's following, the black girl would have to be a Simone Byles type: very well spoken and educated, and not use any "urban" vernacular. Angel Reese could score 30 pts a game and literally fly from half-court to dunk, and she wouldn't have Caitlin's following. Not saying it's right, wrong, or neither, but the middle-American Caitlin fans are turned off by Reese. They look at her as ghetto and someone they wouldn't let their daughters be friends with. Sounds gross, and not off your generation, but it is true as the sun will rise in the morning. Understanding reality, even if it seems ugly, is important too.

The excitement is the point. First time I heard about Clark it was her hitting a logo 3 and being compared to Steph. Hey if there is a woman playing like Steph, I'm down to watch that. But I've never heard of any other player being introduced as anything other than "she is a good player." If there was a playing coming up that is the female Kyrie or Iverson, I'm down. If by some miracle a player is being compared to Vince Carter, 100% watching her. I've heard A'ja Wilson is good so I decided to watch her a bit last night. Definitely a great player but her highlights were basically standard NBA plays. Some nice blocks, some good turn around jumpers, but nothing made me think "how did she do that!?"
And just to say I'm not saying they have to be the female version of a male player, but they need to have a game that separates them from everyone else. It'd actually be even more interesting if they were doing someone unique that no one has seen before.

Jason Whitlock's video, "Caitlin Clark's Olympic Dream Killed as WNBA Chooses Bigotry Over Business," predicted she would be confronted. In a nutshell, she has to figuratively kiss the ring of all her predecessors and current members of the WNBA. I was starting to enjoy finding out about other players, as the Fever played other teams. Carrington, was guarding Caitlin really well. I actually found her attractive. Here's her tweet leveled right at Caitlin: "Dawg. How one can not be bothered by their name being used to justify racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia & the intersectionalities of them all is nuts. We all see the sh*t. @@CarterMomon Do you ever do Thought Experiments on your topics? I've found such to be invaluable for presentations/debate/cases. I saw Angel Reese's behavior so outlying that I did several:
      1. Angel Reese is my daughter - how do I assess, redirect her?
      2. Caitlin Clark is my daughter - and Reese continues to infringe upon her, how do I address...?
      3. I am a ''neighbor'' I see that AR has negative mentorship...
      4. I'm editing chief for The Times, what is the responsible framing for the greater public - in consideration of Reese's well being - in considerations of Clark's (or other ''targets'') well being.
      5. From a Christian perspective - what might be happening for AR. She is in my congregation, but refused guidance...?
      6. From a psychological perspective what does her behavior indicate...?
      7. What might Reese believe her outcomes could be?
      8. What are some logical progression results if she continues?
      9. What are the social implications of the continued coverage of her misbehavior?
These are good faith explorations, which should be our happy duty to carry out.
Current editorial view: The struggle comes in witnessing harm. It is one thing to observe someone harming themselves (say, damaging their own reputation as Reese has) and then visiting our effort to redirect them from this, while it is quite another thing to see someone protagonizing harmful actions (in this case, towards CC /other women players). When we witness harm we are then responsible for the neighbor at risk, we are tasked with reprioritizing the application of our values. The more harm that I see visited upon Clark, the more limited I believe the allowance for those who would harm her should be...

The disparagement of Clark reflects broader societal issues, including misogyny and a lack of understanding of women's sports. Critics have often dismissed her skills, attributing her success to factors like her race or the perceived weakness of her competition, rather than recognizing her talent and hard work. This has led to a narrative that unfairly diminishes her contributions to the sport. While she has undeniably become a face of women's basketball, the reactions to her success reveal deeper societal tensions that continue to influence perceptions of female athletes. Caitlin Clark's popularity has transformed the WNBA landscape, driving economic growth and fan engagement while also creating rivalries and highlighting racial dynamics within the sport. Her influence is reshaping how the league is marketed and perceived, but it also brings challenges that other players must navigate. None of this is Caitlin’s fault. She has enormous talent which is forcing the league to move beyond its present lack of foresight and competence.

Something is different now. Not so much Clark, yet her in part. She has, through the abuse they put on her, exposed them = The problem for the Bully Club is, we are not the usual ''fan'' base. Our roots run much deeper, and our branches of care much longer, especially for our youth. Win or lose, we support them with a loyalty that few can imagine (this comes from our farm buidling Iowa story, and can be seen through our longest tenured leaders and coaches). Clark is the tip of the spear, but we are behind her. We don't abide by the abuse of her, or of any of these women, and - we aim to see this change (and that would include every one of course - despite the silly ''Staley'' like attempts to frame us as racist, we have been fighting for equality since 1865 and integrating against neighboring states bigotry since 1895 (see George Washington Carter). We view all of the young women as daughters, who could be our own. We won't let Clark down, or them, but it does look like a fight...

But it is very true of many and their treatment of CC and their stereotyping of her fans instead of just calling out trolls for being trolls. These women need to grow the F up.

I agree with you. It’s the product of the WNBA. It’s just not exciting enough. It can’t compete with the NBA. It’s the same with these other football leagues that pop up. XFL USFL and the others. The product is not good enough to compete with the NFL so it will never get the views. Same with the WNBA VS NBA

I liked megan rapinho for soccer before she started pushing her politics everywhere she appeared and then i stopped liking her was she still skilled yeah but she got me thinking about politics not the game and now im uninterested i didnt need to see and hear her bullshit every time she appeared lol

The number 1 reason Caitlin is not welcomed by the WNBA is the players feel Caitlin gets more attention than she deserves because she IS WHITE. That is it. Both the black and lesbian players feel their accomplishments have been ignored and d3valued.. I only even became aware of Clark a few mere weeks ago, I'm a hockey fan. I've really been kind of consumed by all this around her and the WBNA and it smells like pure jealously, that's it. Women are their own worst enemy. They know it, we know it and they know we know it. They go medieval if a Man tells them that but it's true. Married for 42 years, been around, seen a few things. Women automatically hate younger women, they're competition. I hope Clark gets tired of all the girly crap and comes to Los Angeles and plays for the Lakers, she's already a star and she would have a fearsome squad making sure she gets her shots and buckets. C'mon Young Lady make history!

This makes so much sense. But here's the thing. It's not the media that portrays the idea of women not being treated fairly, it's the actual women in the WNBA themselves! So, it's kind of like they are being told what some others have said all along - you're not that good, boring, and no one wants to watch you. This is a big problem for the W because there simply aren't enough Caitlin Clarks in the league right not to keep it exciting. And why the heck are they adding an expansion team next year when the talent disparity among the existing teams is still so huge.

I’m a woke Christian feminist, and I love Caitlin. I completely and totally agree that watching Caitlin run point and then shoot the logo 3’s and be celebrated for her skill is exciting. But what you are missing is the power of narrative and marketing to grow the game. Personally, I think NIL is one of the additional reasons the women’s game is taking off. Both Caitlin and Angel and Cardosa and Martin (and many others) were able to make real money in college and build their personal brands and celebrity status. It’s why Paige returned to UConn for a final season. People like to watch players they feel they know. Sometimes this can grow over the course of a tournament, like it did for the Women’s World Cup Team in 1999, now known as the 99ers, but until NIL, companies like Nike have been gatekeepers to the $$$. NIL has proven their marketability.
Caitlin is exactly what feminism looks like for me. Here’s the thing with the Christian right - as a whole, they really don’t think women should be playing sports. They don’t like seeing women celebrated as they want our talents to be singularly focused on men and raising babies. BUT...FoxNews and company are happy to latch onto Caitlin’s celebrity in order to capitalize on their faux narrative that reverse racism is the actual threat. They take advantage of the media cycles even if there’s some cognitive dissonance when you step back. They’re brilliant at that. That said, I think it’s kind of awesome for their daughters because FoxNews is telling white, conservative parents that it’s okay for their daughters to play sports and ball out, and this is not a typical message for them.
Caitlin is amazing. But. Caitlin’s success isn’t just because she’s a generational talent, it’s because the marketing opportunities were there and they helped keep her name in the media which grows the hype which grows the interest. It’s why you are able to make videos and discuss the game.

Ahhh, no. The trouble with CC's emergence is the different groups that try to project their beliefs onto her. I mean just what has she said or done to imply she mirrors your conservative lens? Nothing. You know what is real? People don't hate her like you think. There is an obnoxious, insufferable part of her fanbase, not all, that look to use her to spout their political and cultural biases, much like you are doing. You are, in fairness, not as obnoxious but the point still stands. The same is true at the other end of the spectrum while meanwhile, she tries to steer clear of all the noise from both sides.
I believe you're going to find that the players don't hate her like you think. They don't embrace some of her new fans who along with their racist and bigoted comments, are always angry, and call the players trash and black lesbians and welfare. Not very Christian I would say. They;re not really basketball or CC fans but pimping her out for a chance to be heard. Is there resentment towards CC by some players? Sure. But that's true of everyone, everywhere, and not an indicator toward any of your points. We are people and just not perfect and can't always behave as we should. That's life.
I have a feeling at the All-Star break you are going to see that they don't hate her. Their feelings towards the insufferable crazies of her fanbase won't change. It's funny how conservatives are so against entitlement but sing it loud when it comes to CC. She's entitled to be held to different treatment than other rookies or other players in the league. They should take it easy on her because she fills the seats. Every rookie has to prove themselves on the court. Conservatives complain about DEI, but want to make exceptions for CC to be on the Olympic team. Financial exceptions as if they give a damn about the sport or the W. Leave the girl alone and stop projecting onto her. She just wants to play basketball.

Just possibly there is some confusion - a bit of projecting about people projecting. How much do you know of Clark's Fan Base? I would suggest that you learn more, real life... Come spend real time in Iowa, at our schools, understanding how deep our history is...
There are always crazies, trolls, and opportunists. An observant person can separate the wheat from the chaff.
As for Clark, she is typically Iowan - which people today would call conservative. Family values, Christian values - and our own flavor born of our farm building roots of extreme work ethic and reliability between neighbors. We value supporting youth, being humble, a corny sense of humor, and charitable acts. Does this sound familiar? If you have looked at Clark at all - with an observant eye - you will see that this fits Clark to a T. We were also ''progressive'' a century before this was a thing. Women had basketball from the start, 1895 - we understood that if the women could work beside us then they could play sport. We valued effort, not airs like the city folk. We also broke resistance to integration the same year (look at George Washington Carver) and in sports, and stood by our new students when faced with the bigotry of surrounding states. We never changed in our liberty attitudes, but never adoped the liberal ideologies that undermine actual liberty.
Clark expected challenge, but not bullying. The Bully Club of the WNBA doesn't like Clark's Iowan character. She won't take a knee or kiss their ring. She has endured derision, insults - actual misogyny - actual racism - and abuse. But they won't break her. What they haven't come to terms with is that Clark has a culture of people behind her with much deeper roots and much more vision than they have ever imagined. Their bully game, institutionalizing abuse onto rookies who can be ''accepted'' once they perpetuate to the next, has been exposed to the greater world now. And no, Clark wasnt't excluded as a matter of tradition, her exclusion broke tradition. On this team alone Wilson and Taurasi were rookie Olympians, and most other teams had one - it is tradition to add the #1 pick for the passing of the torch. But they fear Clark. They fear what is behind her. They feared that on the world stage it would be the world seeing the torch passed to Clark. So they made up fibs to justify her exclusion, embarrassing themselves. It doesn't matter though - the torch has already been passed, it was in '23. This is why you see the Bully Club acting out - but the more they yell, and swear, and blame, and lash out, the faster they sill sink into the quicksand of their own stink.
Just know that this will be a good thing. Clark is just the tip of the spear - and what drives her goes beyond her - the majority of women basketball players would like to play inh good sport, free of the threat of abuse, this will be a new day for them and - most importantly - for all of the millions of girls who look up to them, especially all of those who've been inspired by Clark.

She’s not hated over feminism or anything like that. Angel Reese is very feminine and she doesn’t get all the hate. CC hated because she has a whirlwind of impossible hype around her and that rubs people the wrong way. There’s also massive overtones of her being a great white hope amongst a large segment of her fans.
There are players that had just as brilliant careers in college as her when they joined the wnba and were excellent players in the WNBA but they didn’t come with an entourage of loud fans singing their praises while talking about the league and all the players in the most disrespectful ways. People are going to take all of that out on her. I’m normally indifferent to Clark, but when I see people say that she’s the next Jordan or that she’s the best player in the entire wnba, it certainly makes me more critical of her and her record as a player because those claims that they make are simply not true.

      @destinypirate 4 месяца назад +6

For clarity: Reese exhibits distortions of feminity, but not so much feminism. She's not driven by an ideology but rather drifting, and opportunist.
I am directly familiar with the broad foundation of Clark's fans, Iowans, and we don't care whatsoever about her race. We judge people on their character - with our values being rooted in our farm building heritage which necessitates hard work and cooperation. Loyalty and diligence are characteristics we value most, which is why we have the longest teured politicians and coaches. We support our youth and athletes, win or lose, yet expect them to be sportsmanlike, team supporting, and charitable. Clark is all of this, and this is why we love her. If people would take time, and not just follow social media buzz, they'd learn that people of all backgrounds come to Iowa and call it ''home''. We were first in wbb, in 1895, and in integration, also in 1895 (see George Washington Carver) against the bigotry of the surrounding states. Our schools were first for girls bb, after WWI. We never told our girls, boys, or any race, religion that they could not do anything - so that is why this is a Field of Dreams and we will see a girl like Clark believing in herself. Come to Iowa and you will be surprised by how warm people are (even if you cheered against our Hawkeyes!)... But here is the real rub...
When the Bully Club came at Clark, they didn't realize that she has people backing her who are not like other fans. We are loyal to her like one of our own daughters or nieces... And we abhor unfairness and even more bullying and abuse. Maybe they thought it normal, that they could bully and just keep going, if that is a way they've been living. - But the bullying stops when they meet us. We are too grounded, too long sighted, to aware of sacrifice and human value. Clark respects the women of basketball but - the shoulders that she stands upon are her father and mother's first, then her close community alma mater, and then the greater Iowa culture. This is the silent majorty now coming into focus, and those from afar recognize the tradition of loyalty and standing up for what is right that has become sadly too uncommon. So Clark's confidence will not wain, she has what she has in herself, her faith, and all of us to draw upon.
The reason other players didn't build a fanbase is obvious, but missed until pointed out. Nearly all of the high school girls follow the crowd - to the same 5 times that have won most of the NCAA championships. These monopoly teams buzz saw the tourney and, besides homers, the public has no interest in such an inbalance of sport. For the girls, the price they pay for joining a front runner is that no star can really shine when buried among other stars. Also, these front runner fanbases are entitled - expecting a FF every year and having no interest in real competition. This is why the ''great'' wbb state of Connecticut never sold out a Suns game (since the league's early days) until Clark brought her fans.
There have been many players hyped as ''the next Jordan": but we never saw any vitriol against Harold Minor, etc. Sure people would be derisive, but it was in good sport. What we are seeing with Clark is shameful. People are saying cruel things, insulting her character - although she is even handed and charitable, insulting her appearance and womanhood - actual misogyny that shouldnt' be tolerated, and even cheering her abuse.

@@amythompson6431 what does that even mean,? I hope you're being facetious but yes we do find growing corners of our society where people can no longer use the language whether being able to draw upon a broad standard vocabulary, the functional use of pronouns, the application of tenses, or the use of suffixes with an identifier.
One of the things that we find quite humorous is that Iowans were both conservative and liberal long long before those terms came around - and were quickly bastardized. We were the first with women's basketball in 1895 while at the same time pushing for integration opportunities in our schools (see George Washington carver, Fred Kinney)against the bigotry that still had a hold in the surrounding states. We considered this Liberty though not, liberalism. At the same time we were able to create the best farms in the world, build our own schools and self-educate, maintain our community structure (which some people today would call conservative) and we simply call all of this our freedom, ie. responsibility. The world looks truly different when the majority of communities function on a rhythm of the seasons and the weather - and the efforts required to create more food than anywhere... All between the life-threatening embrace of winters that are so severe that we have hurricane level winds carrying temperatures that can end of life in minutes... Through it all we understand that our survival is dependent upon how good we are as neighbors, how good we are his parents, and how good we are at supporting our young people including our athletes - whether born here or brave enough to come and play through all of our seasons.

The hate is not real it is a narrative that is pushed by her new racist fans she gained because of the angel reese hand wave. Reese got drug for that hand wave but CC was praised for it when she did it. That created racial tension and her popularity blew up from there. Those new racist fans she brought talk down to the whole wnba but target black players the most and disrespect them. They say CC is the face of the wnba, a ja who? Make fun of reeses complexion and eye lashes, say CC is classy and articulate. CC is not hated its her fans that are hated. Also there are other more exciting players then CC. Arike is more exciting just to start the list.

With the amount of Love and Positivity you are espousing, who could argue that your type of fandom is the righteous one.
Or, you could reserve judgment and take the time to actually know Clark's fan base - which would mean spending real time in Iowa - and not just buzzing with the social media hive mind. (BTW, Clark had MILLIONS of fans before Reese, after -and more. We don't think about Reese. If you are reacting to trolls, then you will get caught under the bridge).

She does have a racist group of new fans and there are not just from Iowa but it's wierd that u think all her fans are from Iowa. Anyways I know she had fans before. I'm talking about when she exploded and reach people outside the female ncaa circle. And as I side note Illinois (I know it's not Iowa but it's their neighbor) had the most sundown towns. Just saying it's not far fetch what I'm saying and I'm not judging anybody and telling you what conversations I'm having with these people and I still don't know why you focused on just Iowa. @@KARMA-ok4yk I'm going to assume positively that you'll agree with placing importance on being careful in conversation and leaving the assumptions and projections aside. Also it doesn't help with the judgmental language, it's not for you to say what is weird or not, in fairness, until you have taken some time directly with that of which you speak. But we all do it at times and in good faith I am rather going to assume you took mental shortcuts for what you believe are good reasons. I would caution any of us not to take mental shortcuts though when we have charged topics..
To try and parse this down just a bit, I'm focused on Iowans because Iowans are the heart of this story, and the best way to know us is to spend time together, which we are always more than willing to do. Sadly, the national narrative has fallen to a bunch of sideways junk instead of a focus on the foundational culture from which a girl could grow to believe she could do anything from, with the support of the most loyal people you could find.
Iowans are far and away the heart of this story. Clark grew from and with us, with clear core values, and of course Iowans are the core fans of Caitlin Clark, this would include the Iowan to reside in Iowa and those who are dispersed far and wide. The Iowan is unlike any other fandom in terms of the level of supporting and offering enduring loyalty and, most importantly, the ethical standards which are expected of the athletes, coaches, and fans. We have the longest tenured leaders and coaches always, because we choose them carefully as they uphold the standards of our core values. Caitlin Clark's hard-working, humble, corny humored, community and charity focused character is precisely Iowan. Clark as a phenomena was buoyed by Iowans all the way, who were the first ones to of course sell out all of the arenas not only in Iowa but everywhere that she went, they created the first 2 to 3 million households that would be watching and of course she deserves all of the credit for her unique and entertaining skill which then alighted into the mainstream market.
None of this is new as Iowans have always supported their athletes this way, we expect a high standards, but offer the highest standard of loyalty and return. Athletes aren't supported when only when they win...we support the players humanity also, long after play is over. This is why those who come from elsewhere to Iowa end up calling Iowa home, even if they travel afar again, even if decades later.
The same level of ethical standards is demanded within the fandom. Do jerks pop up? Absolutely. But they are in the minority of dissipated minorities. If you were to go to games, say it football stadiums for the arena for basketball or wrestling, if fans crossed the line into poor sportsmanship they will get pulled back into line by the Hawkeye fans themselves. Simply put the perspective isn't lost on the value of ethics and sharing even if things go south in a game. It's a game after all. That's why you saw absolutely no change in fan loyalty between when the Hawkeye women were winning or losing, or even now whether Caitlin and the Fever are winning and losing. We are supporters of the person most of all.
Beyond this, Iowa certainly does not consider itself Illinois or Missouri or kansas, Iowa was at the forefront in the Midwest for women's opportunity and all races having an opportunity. This began formally in 1895 at our universities, you can look up George Washington Carver or Fred Kenny among others.... Who came to Iowa to escape the bigotry of surrounding states and when traveling with the team and facing the bigotry again the entire team would stand behind them. We take more pride in treating people well then we do in national championships. The difference is Islands don't wear this on their sleeve and would rarely talk about it, it's just the standard, the language of aggressive progressives and liberals who weaponize these ideas is not our language.
Of course we were very disappointed with two significant developments that ran countercurrent to the wonderful narrative of Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes.
First we had the sore losers like Don Staley who fell entitled to win and couldn't accept losing to the Hawkeyes and who then tried to frame coach blutter as racist and continued for years with sideways remarks all the way to the Olympic committee thing. Staley most of all precipitated among South Carolina players which led over to LSU and other players causing them to act towards Clark in the same bigoted ways that Tiger Woods faced 30 years ago. Of course this continues to this very day in the WNBA and it's a real shame. We absolutely push back against this, not only for Clark sake but for the sake of any woman who shouldn't be treated with derision, racism, or misogyny. Everyone should agree on that. one thing that those bigoted people didn't expect was the 42 of the Iowans because we simply don't back down for bullies. We never have. As I referred back to when we started integrating our teams we would not back down when racism went against these new players, and just the same we won't on behalf of clark, it doesn't matter to us whether the players are black or white or others, we expect them to be treated fairly and ethically.
The other major development is the one that you are alluding to, we're also shocked when we saw race beaters and hater trolls jump into the Caitlin Clark narrative to get their jollies. These are absolutely not Hawkeye fans, I can tell you that point blank because if they tried anything like that anywhere but behind a screen they would be stopped immediately, by us.
A simple example of this relates to something that I would invite you to that's quite easy, a nice podcast called Hawkeye of the storm, you could look up the post-game talks from the last season and they feature former player Kachine Alexander... In our talks we would have anywhere from several hundred to a couple thousand people and once in a while someone would jump in with some bigoted comments, either toward Caitlin Clark or toward kachin or whomever, and we would just simply and firmly shut them down. Nobody like that is welcome in the Hawkeye fandom. But as you know they will try and there are plenty who will come to I said sheep, yet we are quick to recognize the wolf underneath.
We also come to the defense of Angel Reese or anyone else. I see that it's often here that people lose the thread is they take no nuance and noticing the difference between criticism and bigotry. For example when Reese exhibited her poor sportsmanship at the national title game we certainly criticized that, but whenever someone would try to hijack that conversation into something racist or mean we would shut them down immediately. we wish the best for Angel Reese and even more would rather see her turn a corner toward a happier way and if she did and befriended Caitlin clark, instead for example supporting her teammate and being violent toward clark, they could do something really special, a real woman's magic and bird type of moment that would be beneficial for them personally, diffusing The heirs of animosity that all of this has fueled in the league, they would also benefit professionally is the endorsements they could do together would be incredible, and they would benefit the culture as a whole.
Hopefully that adds a little bit of clarity and insight. And just so you know I wish you the best and whatever your team is I wish them the best to you and would be happy to invite you to one of our stadiums or arenas and we could enjoy sharing against each other, or together, either way.

@@KARMA-ok4yk that's pretty much it, but her true fans are her only true fans.
I was surprised to learn a new term a few years ago and that term is "hate watching" - for myself and generally for people I know it's always been natural to simply turn off a show or don't see a film that's not my cup of tea. Of course we end up seeing something we don't like that much at times and it's reasonable to offer some criticism.... But it never occurred to me to actually seek out things that I don't like and then to spend time deriding and commenting and arguing and so forth about these shoes and films. If you like Madonna and I like Michael Jackson and neither the opposite, that's fine, we have two radios. Those people who jumped into the Clerk narrative to espouse some sort of mean-spiritedness and hate strike me as the same, people caught in a pattern of emoting negativity on others. We just have to be a little bit more discerning for the distinction between true fans and people who are up to something else, and I think we can then not confuse the matter.
For example, from the context of our dialogue I can reasonably deduct that you are not in Iowan. Besides me stating my origin, you could as likely deduct that I'm not a South Carolinian. These are not really assumptions, as we do have some evidence to the matter, they're reasonable deductions, and if mistaken easily corrected. Maybe your grandparents are Iowan and you spent summers in iowa, or maybe you went to the university, and then you could be iowan through another path.
What would not be deduction is if I then projected that you disliked Caitlin Clark or that you were racist against Caitlin Clark. I have no evidence to this and making such an assumption would not only be illogical it would be unethical. We should always give one another the benefit of a doubt, or take the position of viewing others as innocent until proven guilty per se. To further contextualize I would also reason that there should be no bias held against Caitlin Clark as she has done no harm to anyone and rather benefited many. Given these two perspectives, if I did encounter someone who was exhibiting bias against Caitlin Clark I would not assume that this person did so because they were a fan of another player, but rather because this was their own issue, their own toxicity as it were.

That is are a lot of accusations. Do you have reciepts? Are you SURE that you aren't reacting to trolls who try to drag people under their bridges?
I would suggest coming to Iowa. We are open minded to everyone, will greet with a warm handshake and a smile, and share about any sport with good sportsmanship. - However, there is no more enduring of a people nor any more supporting of our youth. If people continue to deride, insult, show true misogyny, show actual racism, and abuse Caitlin Clark, they will disover a people which they hadn't reckoned with. We will NEVER desert each other, nor one of our kids, nor even others in need. This runs deep in our blood and we have been fighting for fairness since we first founded our farms. Fairness means the opportunity to work hard and make ones own way, with the support of neighbors. That is all the Clark has asked for, and deserves, and will be be there for her - in good sport, or with strong shoulders for her to stand upon.
