Jazz lesson with a Slayer t-shirt! Doesn't get any better than this, folks! "Haunting the Savoy" ! This one's gonna require some study time. Thanks Damien.
Thank you for making this video! This is a song I’ve wanted to learn for a long time, and I am coming from a blues background. I want to learn a lot of the old jazz songs from the 20s,30s and 40s on the guitar I hope you make more Jazz guitar videos!
whoohoo, a new swingin´ standard a la Damian. Have the song in my repertoire and am thankful for some new ideas makin´it even stronger. All the best from Germany
Great Lesson !! Another one I will copy and practice. If you ever have the time along that same swing line: Please, Please do one on “In The Mood” by Glenn Miller, that’s a song so very fine. Thanks !!!
Ah, lovely tune. I agree with you about Ella's version. It's classic. She scats like a horn player---she IS a horn player, just with a voice for a horn. Gonna learn this, however long it takes me. ;o) Chord melody is not my strong suit (or even in my Top 3) but as Joni Mitchell said, "Life is for learning."
Dear Damian, I came across your lessons a while a go and enjoy all of them ! I really like your taste for “vintage” music but even more I like your teaching skills ! On the top of that I need to tell you that your nam Damian is also popular in my country ( Slovenia 🇸🇮) and the surname for sure has Italian origin. Keep rocking Damian !!!!! 🤘
Thumbs up! Damian, i really like your rockabilly lessons but the jazz stuff is outstanding! so as someone said before, i'd be happy if you can make the tabs for us available in your store!
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed the lesson. In the near future I may set up Patreon for this channel and I will put the tabs & backing tracks of my RUclips lessons on there. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
hey, damian. just found your channel. i love this version of stompin’. i learned a version of the song a few years back and want to incorporate, ok, steal;), some of your bits. if you don’t mind a quick question regarding your arrangement, at about 3:45 when you do the 3 ascending chord stabs that are reminiscent of a basie ending, what do you see those 3 chords as? would they be Ebm7b5, Edim7, and Bbm11? i know it doesn’t really matter, but i dig the theory stuff. cheers!
Thank you for watching Jeff. Actually I'm considering putting guitar tabs & backing tracks to my RUclips lessons on Patreon. But not sure yet. Thank you for the question. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
@@Damianblf Do it! Do it! Another of my fave online Jazz teachers has a similar option. The lessons are free which is amazing and she offers the tabs and backing tracks from 1.99 Euro. I like both guitars equally. I'm very happy with both of them. But one of the features the Joe Pass model has that I really like visually is the Gibson Byrdland style tailpiece.
Damian, long-term fan here! I'm trying to figure out the chords in the chord melody. Some I get and others I don't. I try to match up the chords in fake book lead sheets or iReal lead sheets to figure out what you're playing, but sometimes they don't match. But your chords sound great. Is there any way to figure them out? Looks like inlandbott had the same quandaries...
Nice Damian Just a thought..I have all your Rockabilly and jump Blues ...have you ever considered a Jazz Guitar teaching lesson CD...Just a collection of Jazz standard tunes....most of the teaching CD focus on the theory.....which is fine but nice to have a collection of teaching tunes only
Thank you Richard. Currently I'm working on gathering material for a full length course on Jazz Blues and I plan to start creating videos for the course in the Fall. I know it's not on Jazz standards but I hope you'll dig the new course when it is finally finished. Thanks again for all the support & Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Thank you Glen. No effects used. Just straight into my Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212. I think put Elixir 12-52 gauge on the guitar. Due to the Florida humidity. I'm starting to use Elixir's on most on my guitars. They last so much longer.
I was wondering: how would this lesson be played on a loop pedal? Because you are switching two guitars at once: rhythm and lead. The lesson is as usual: the best online.
