I just picked up a 1995 KLR250 over the winter and been going all over it. Can't wait for spring here in Southwestern PA,USA. Took it out twice in January and Froze my arse off. Lol I'm 55yo and haven't had a bike since my dad made me sell my last one to get my first car. It's been 35 years. I love old analog stuff and things I can work on. (I'm an old school electrical engineer). Hey, BTW - I have the base KLR service manual too. If you all need any info or have any electrical problems, let me know.
Hi thanks again for another great video. Im about to do the banjo bolt mod to save my cams! If you research it its the same for klr 650 too. The oil feed banjo bolt holes are small on the klr so you get ones from klx (i think or similar) and swap. More oil to cams and less chance of blockage.
I'll put a couple of links here. They explain more, read through the comments on the forum link for the relevant information. They are actually looking at a different issue but the solution increases oil to cams. You need to change 3 banjo bolts in total. Or re drill the existing ones. You can just increase hole size of the intake bolt but my worry is blockage of cam bolt as I know someone this happened to. Part numbers on the information. I've had issues with suppliers so I have 2 new bolts and will drill out 3rd. I've found length of bolt from below head to end of threaded part is 23mm this was the issue with non original parts. So might be worth just drilling original bolts following the instructions and triple checking they are clean.
What happens if you turn the crank clockwise? I accidentally turned it clockwise and then realized afterward it was supposed to be counterclockwise 🤦🏻♂️
Probably has a bad oil pump. If not enough oil pressure gets pumped up to that part of the engine. It's not even worth replacing the camshaft because it's going to wear out again in a short period of time.
I can hear the ticking… is it normal? I have same issue with soft ticking/clicking.. and harder warm starts.. checked the valve clearances and they were OK. I have KLR 250 1986

With this video I feel better about diving into my top end.
Nice vid thank you for taking the time!

Interesting, never thought of that. I will replace mine with bigger one then 👍

I wondered what was happening I think RUclips won't let me share the links
@@jonb6660 - какой диаметр сверла использовать для сверления?
Looks like you are on Arthurs Seat in Victoria near where I live
Well done ! Thank you very much for nice information.
Where do you get the cams?
Really like the video
Is the marking on the cam sprockets to let you know if it's at tdc on the compression stroke ?

I have no idea!!
Any negatives from the more aggressive cam profile after a year of use?
No problems so far finger crossed!

Did you feel a difference in power with the higher cam lobe?
I don't think it's much if at all!

It's better to be a little too loose than too tight. Slight ticking is normal. What oil do you use? 10W40 is what it calls for. Change the filter too.
Yes "Tappy engine is a happy engine!"
But you went from a tappy engine to a quiet engine. Is there a point when too much tappy isn't happy? How to tell?
very nice video! (can you send me the link that you bought the camshaft?)
I got it from ebay
