An anthem for the alternative kids in the 80's. Considered one of the most influential groups of all time due to the lyrics of Morrisey and the guitar melody of Johnny Marr. Many similar bands along this vein that you can explore. The SMITHS, NEW ORDER, ECHO and the BUNNYMENT, and the original PRETENDERS (anything off the first record is gold)> Keep up the good work. PS in the goth, alternative, hip clubs once this song came on - everyone on the dance floor.
One of the most important bands of the 80s besides Depeche Mode, The Cure, U2 and New Order. I danced to this in the 80s, that's how old I am... lol. Keep up the good work, it's important that younger generations keep experiencing how awesome and timeless these bands are. Greetings from Germany from an old music nerd.
Next Smiths song you should react to is definitely There Is A Light that Never Goes Out, probably one of the best songs ever written.
REM too.
Morrissey's voice and Johnny Marr's guitar a match made in heaven . worth giving their solo work a listen too
Morrissey (singer) and Johnny Marr (guitar) made some amazing music.
One of my favorite new wave tunes from back in the day!
How soon is now is definitely one of the most hypnotic songs I’ve ever listened too! I remember dancing to this song at prom and just being in my own headspace even though I was dancing with my prom date! She loved it too!
I'm glad you gave this a second try. "The Queen Is Dead" is another good one by them.
The Smiths - This Charming Man ;)
The last minute of the song was missing, When listening to The Smiths, you need to get the lyrics up as they are so good, he's a poet. My favorite album is their live album, it's called Rank, check it out, it's a bit louder and faster with an extra guitar and Morrisey is so good live, he still is.
Wow what a great breakdown, the smiths definitely put you in that calm melancholy vibe. I've spent 1000s of hours, i'm sure, listening to their music. Absolutely love The Smiths!
"There's A Light That Never Goes Out", "This Charming Man", "Heaven Knows I"m Miserable Now", "Girl Afraid", "Bigmouth Strikes Again"...there are lots of The Smiths' song fou you to react...
The Smiths The Cure and Depeche Mode were the holy Trinity of 80s music - try their song Big Mouth next.
@X Ennial A-ha were popular for sure but they never got the critical respect some folks thought they deserved - Maybe they were too good looking to be taken seriously?
Simple minds, REM, U2, Police,...
You two are amazing!
💯👍👍
This song was HUGE on Dance floors/ clubs in the 80's and 90's
"How Soon Is Now" by The Smiths is very famous , in France. It is the song of Charmed with Shannen Doherty , Alyssa Milano , Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs.
From a Boomer to a Zoomer.
You guys totally get it.
Excellent.
So, this type of music was a little bit "underground" in the beginning of the 80's.
MTV was too busy jamming Madonna, Michael Jackson and Duran Duran down our throats.
Only a special radio station like KROQ would play this "strange" stuff.
Only the most "hardcore" fans with xerox'd magazines who hangout at vintage record stores knew about Smiths(The Cure, Siouxsie, Depeche mode,..etc.).
I love this song and the Smiths! Great new wave band from the British Invasion of the 80s! They have many great songs, this one is one of my favorites! You girls should listen to more of them! Great reaction young ladies!👌😎👍♥️by the way new wave music and this song was way ahead of their time!
Oh dear.. Such a beautiful reaction .Love you two sweethearts .. Soo cute. HSIN is such a legendry song from my youth I'd almost forgotten it. New meaning & clarity brought into by your fresh comments here . Seems that the train imagery is quite common with new listeners but a new one on me I must admit after nearly 40 years. IMO this is one of the best songs ever!
One of my most favorite songs of all time. The smiths are so good.
Back when alternative music 🎶 like this was only played on college radio and videos shown late at night on 120 Minutes, program on MTV that played music videos from alternative bands. I'm GenX and remember this. Lol
That's how I discovered this song as a kid in the 80's on a late night video show. The song and the video changed my world.
Take it from an ex 80’s club kid..this song is amazing but it’s hell to dance too in any graceful way!
YEE Girls YEE Nation 😍. Wow two songs I really like in a row.. do you have your zombies spying on me.LOL 😆 LOL. Great job girls lots of fun. And yes of course we missed you.
This song is covered and used as the theme song for the TV series CHARMED, my ex wife loved that show
This song defined the 80’s. Back when alternative was alternative. Great choice. 🎸
BAM!! CONGRATS ON 300 VIDEOS
The Smiths - Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me.
The Smiths are an amazing band they don’t have a bad song, check out “The Cure - A Forest” it’s a big fan favourite
You young ladies are great. Thanks for the lovely reaction of my favorite band of all time :)
I like how Mia closed her eyes 👀 and got lost in the vibes😄👍
YES, WE HAVE MISSED YOU BOTH! I am happy to see the two of you. I love this song! That guitar.....so haunting! The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it. I still crank this one up while driving. It puts me in my happy place! I am glad the two of you liked it. I loved watching your reactions to it. I especially loved when the camera went on Mia! Her expression says it all. I listen to music the same way. Juliet has such a lovely smile on her face. Enjoy your well deserved summer break, my lovely girls! Love & Blessings! 💗
@@Bobby0606 hello! I am doing fine. I hope you are too! 😊
@@Bobby0606 that is great to hear! 💗
@@Bobby0606 so glad all is well with you! 💗😘
The younger sister described my personality to a tee. I have heard this song a lot but never paid attention to the lyrics. Thank You. I also enjoyed hearing your cat meow throughout the video. Excellent reaction! Cheers!!!
Great choice. The Smiths are The Beatles of the 80s❤
I grew up with The Beatles, i like the 'Hard Days Night' stuff
but when they went psychedelic, I was done
Great reaction guys 👍👍 The Smiths were huge in the 80s in the Uk, i was addicted to this band for about 4 years when i was a teenager and this song was one of their finest.
I was second ) : I should have waited to congratulate you ) : Congrats ( :
It's got a "TRANCY" floating vibe
gives me memories of watching charmed with my little sister, she loved that show
Sorry that your clip missed out on the last verse. I used to love Morrissey before he became a grumpy old man.
The funkiness is mostly due to co-songwriter and guitar player Johnny Marr. Andy Rourke on bass and Mike Joyce on drums subsequently became the outstanding rythm section. This is a relatively early example.
hating morrissy is so old !!
@@arcturus8218 Hating Morrisey will never get old, the man's a proper git!
It brings me in the 80s, how soon is now...
This is how you hold down one chord for over three minutes! Quality!
You young ladies made me cry.. WOOO!!!
Their best song, no doubt about it.
Try Killing Joke “Love Like Blood”, Echo and the Bunnymen “The Killing Moon”, Cocteau Twins “Aikea Guinea”, and Clan of Xymox, “Cry in the Wind”. The 80s college alt rabbit hole is very deep and winding.
I don't think they'll like Killing Joke
Watch the studio video of Joy DivisionLove will tear us apart. Dark lyrics but sounds upbeat. Lead singer actually kill himself so the band mates formed New Order. Love your reactions
Hello beautiful girls 😍
The Smiths a alternative rockband from Manchester 1982-1987.
Frontman Morrissey started after The Smiths a successful
solo career.
Love you much Leon.❤️❤️❤️
Hey girls, thank you for your reaction, not your fault but you heard the short version, I recommend the full version
Overlooked often is the musical genius of guitarist Johnny Marr….
Another great job ladies!!!!YEEE!!🌹🌹
Even though this song is more instrumental and less on vocals/lyrics, this song is so much more powerful if you hear the 'entire' song, which is what you're not doing here. Check other links/videos for this song, and then listen to the full uncut version, and you will see the difference. You will also appreciate the song and the band a whole lot more.
There's a longer version of this song with a crucial verse in it
"So you say it's gonna happen now...But when exactly do you mean? See I've already waited too long, and now my hope is gone."
I was at university in 1993-96 and a brilliant dude called Alan Scales got me into The Smiths. We loved other bands at the time. Pulp was already established, and Oasis were having their ratings war with Blur etc. And crazy stuff on the side. But thank goodness for The Smiths. I love them now, exactly s much as I did then.
Morrisey went on to do amazing solo albums like Vauxhall And I. And The Smiths' lead guitarist co-wrote amazing songs like Getting Away With it (with Electronic).
Johnny F****ing Marr!
Nice! Good job, kids. This is old alternative music from the '80s. Music like this was around a lot during the late '70s, '80s and early '90s. Darkwave (dark, gothic new wave), post-punk, dance-punk. Which usually has groovy bass guitars and drums, makes it dance music. Popular in underground dance clubs. Punks, goths, , vampires, alternatives dance music lol. Check out The Smiths "Charming Man", too.
Yall will like bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, Clan of Xymox, The Cure, Frozen Autumn, Joy Division/New Order, The Cure, Sioxsee and the Banshees, Sister of Mercy, Depeche Mode, etc. Modern bands like this would be Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, Bloc Party, Metric, etc.
Describing the song as groovy is spot on, johnny marr talks obout how this son was inspired by bo diddley and he is 100% grove, so good ear girls 👍.
Morrissey Rocks!
Love this song!
I love Mia's vibe to this song!
Her eyes are closed and she is swaying to the music.
The guitar sounds like a car passing by in parts of the song if you know what I mean.
I enjoyed the reaction. 👍🙏
Great reaction to a great song ! .. Please check out some more of The Smiths soon .. I highly recommend "What Difference Does It Make ?" to be your next reaction .. "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby" and "Panic" are also excellent ! .. Cheers, Wayne
Johnny Marr's guitar is brilliant
A classic, my fave Smiths tune. Loved how you two just immersed into it. Pls also check out their "Well I Wonder", and for another smooth vibe, hope you also react to Steely Dan's "Do It Again".
Some more great Smiths songs:
1. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.
2. Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
3. This Charming Man
4. Bigmouth Strikes Again
5. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now
The Smiths,from Manchester England.
The Smiths, a minha banda favorita dos anos 80! From São Paulo - Brasil
The guitar by Johnny Marr was inspired by Hamilton Bohannon who in turn had been inspired by Bo Diddley .
Johnny Fuckin' Marr
GOD DAMN RIGHT!
First person to get his name right
4:38 as he says 'and you want to die' you see the girl on the left nod 'yep' lol
Wow!!!
Mia us growing un chingo!!!!😮
Cheers to you girls don't abandon us too much!😉
Morrisey is brilliant! Used as the theme for the television show Charmed (the original version because the rebooted this show).
This is a reaction channel so feel free to interrupt anytime your observations are fantastic! One thing for sure if Morrissey writes about it he's probably experienced it or felt it! I'm a fan👍 thanks girls!🌿
100% agreed. btw.. are you named after a Frank Zappa song?
@@shawnmichael777. hey Shawn for sure I'm a big Frank Zappa fan! I just decided to spell it differently than he spells it on the album but that was the inspiration👍 it also gives me a connected feel to others because in the end we are all made of the same thing the cosmic debris. ✨🌟✨
@@cosmicdebris5260 now is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho? Don't ya know.. you could make more money as a butcher? That's off the top of my head so if the lyrics are wrong I apologize. Thanks for confirming ( :
I am so happy to see you react to The Smiths! They have so many great songs, and one that you should react to is Barbarism begins at home, you and your subs will love it!
its those rising riffs, deep lyrics and unconventional notes/cadences that make the song a classic
I had to give ye're reaction a thumbs up since ye get it. Not everyone gets it.
It lasted only 5 albums, al filled high quality music. So so sad it came to an end in 1987. Their legacy is great. Morrissey's voice was and is addictive and it's a delicious addiction.
This was the original theme song to the broadcast TV series "Charmed," as covered by the band Love Spit Love. Later when the series moved to other media, the production company could not renew the license to the song, and different music was used.
Such a classic song! There's a power behind it.
Defo need to listen to Girlfriend in a coma, There's a light that never goes out, And Panic
Soon, by My Bloody Valentine. You'll like that too
You should check out “Bigmouth Strikes Again” which the guitarist Johnny Marr describes as their version of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” by The Rolling Stones.
Another masterpiece is “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” which is filled with so much youthful yearning and romanticism. 👍🏻
Actually, listen to “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” first, it’s perfect. The entire “The Queen Is Dead” album is classic after classic. 🙌🏻
Love this 💞😍
My fav
Talk about someone being the perfect age for this song!
Great song and one of my favorites by The Smiths! I would love to hear your reactions to more trippy music like this. How about: Donovan - "Hurdy Gurdy Man", Billy Thorpe - "Children of the Sun", Peter Gabriel - "Games Without Frontiers", Arctic Monkeys - "Arabella" and The Art of Noise - "Paranoimia" for starters! 🎧🎶🔥😎
Watch johnny Marr do this live..... change your life
Reminds me of Depeche mode
00:19 Nice!
THERE’S MORE TO THE SONG!!!
THE VIDEO CUT IT OFF!!!
I love your criteria when analyzing the music, you are very nice and you chose an excellent group with an impressive song. Greetings from Spain. Disculpen mi inglés, requiero de traductor e intento corregir. 🙏👋🏻🍀
Thanks!
Great live performance great music
Please do more Smiths!!
But NOT that one about the Moors, Please!
Going down the 80s Rabbit hole..Also there’s the Cure/Petshop boys 2
/Depeche Mode and Many more🥰😎🤘
Try "Get The Message" by Electronic, another Johnny Marr classic with Bernard Sumner from New Order shortly after the Smiths ended
Funky? probably the original meaning of being in a Funk!
I'm 43 and also hearing this for first time.
I don't like it.
the guitar and bass kind of grew on me, but the song sounds weird
And the spirit of God moved upon the waters. The Smith's - paints a picture - with their sound in their music...
