DF Retro is probably my favorite show on youtube. So awesome to go down memory lane and check out these breakdowns, analysis and comparisons. Please keep the show going for as long as possible!
Hope we see a NEOGEO Arcade Stick Pro analysis next.
Allot of NeoGeo games are on Xbox game pass. I'll still watch anything from DF
i guess I'm quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch newly released movies online?
@Dario Titan Lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it on google =)
Great video John and Audi. Keep 'em coming! :)
Thank God! Another DF retro episode. Been waiting for this.
Great video as usual. Love DF Retro. Keep up the great work👍🏾
Is it just me, or is "belt scroller" really a widely used term I've not just ever heard before?
It is the one of the Japanese primary terms for side scrolling game. The Capcom Belt Action Collection is the Japanese name for the Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle.
it's a japanese term
Beat em up, for us outside of Japan.
I had never called it belt scroller till I think last year
Now you know how Japanese feel when they see the phrase "metroidvania."
Ive never heard the term before this video
I agree with you guys that Alien vs. Predator is a great "belt scroller" beat'em up and I spent a lot of time playing it in arcades. However, I do think the peak of that type of game was Sega's Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder, which as of now still has no home release of any kind.
Was surprised not to hear a mention that this has no confirmed U.S. release.
Thanks for a great video guys 💕
Belt scrollers?? Back in my day, we called them Beat 'em Up's.
Since forever !
back in those same days, they were also called belt scrollers - it's what they've always been known as in japan, named for the fact that they look like a conveyor belt.
Back in your day? I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are older than you.
@@PSspecialist I'm actually born in 1976, so I doubt that.
@@Svante Wow, I stand corrected then.
Love your work boys. Keep it up x
Whoa, a new DF Retro!? How did I miss this?
Great analysis!
So glad you guys aren't trying to do a bit, or be characters. This is by far the best review of this product.
And I love how people complain about the amount of games for the price of this thing, when they're paying two to three times as much for an arcade 1up that comes with only two to three games.
The usb port is probably a passthrough to let it be used on a pc as an xinput device.
That is a good guess... I thought this was already part of the package... If I was to buy this thing, I expect to be able to use it as a controller on PC/Consoles to play modern fighting games too.
It had better be!
I think I'd buy it for that
@@thiagovidal6137 yes.. would love to get an adapter to use it on my switch.
@@AdamsBrew78 This had long came out and it can be used as a regular controller on PC to play anything you like. Not sure about the switch.
Don’t know why everyone complains about the design using a Capcom logo, I think it’s dope! Anyone can make a rectangle with multicade graphics.... this is something different and unique! Want a generic one? Buy those eBay ones for less lol
Love the Cho Aniki background music (Shanghai Power Slam) in a Capcom video :)
Where did you buy that Crooks shirt? It's so cool. Any web link please?
It's great to see all those awesome capcom games get a half decent release, the arcade stick looks like great quality as well.
I dont like the buttons are the same color as the logo itself
could probably take them out? Maybe? Paint or order new buttons
If that's the main issue with it for you anyway.
If you are into arcade, yo never actually look at the buttons.... LOL
@@sweetcalamares I dont look at them while playing but they look weird thats all
@@HyperVenom523 I respect your opinion, but for a person who loves CAPCOM it is mind blowingly awesome :)
The controller is an eyesore.
I admit to only knowing some of the games in here, like 1943.
AVP, Armored Warrios, SF 2 Hyper Fighting.
I was surprised John you've never experienced Armored Warriors, I myself was more familliar with AVP.
I first played it I want to say in the early 2000s and came to love it ALOT it's a lot of fun as you and Audi both noted.
All the more reason to get the Capcom Beat Em Up collection digitally on Switch haha.
At this price, with games 19 years old or more, and coming from Capcom itself, there's really no excuse for the emulation not to be 100% perfect.
@Phallus Dominus Lol, I'm allowed to have opinions on products being offered to me for purchase, regardless of my ability to produce them myself. Do you seek out opinions on cars before buying? Don't be ridiculous.
Fantastic review.
This thing will be a crazy collector's item. Due to some super rare games on it, it'll be sought after like crazy in 20 + years time. A good investment for retirement ;)
Won't even take 20 years.
Alot of people are saying it's trash, they're clueless.
Especially how this displays in 1080p, and connects via wifi.
great review
Great overview, guys! Glad to hear this thing is more solid than expected. I could even see myself getting one eventually. I do feel they should have tacked on a few more fighting games on top of the existing lineup, if anything just to have more games that take advantage of all of those buttons. Not having Super Street Fighter II Turbo at the very least alongside Hyper Fighting is a disappointment.
Is that Alfred Chicken for the NES in the background? I freakin love that game.
Would love a DF Live with Tom and John with this.
When did belt scroller become a term? I’ve never heard a side scroller or side scrolling beat’em up referred to as a belt scroller?!
this was really cool
Came here to learn about Capcom games, couldnt concentrate because Ai Cho Aniki's awesome soundtrack is playing in the background.
Very jealous of that hoodie John.
Before I updated my FW I had only four options in the display settings.
The first time I tried to connect I got the same results as you. On my second attempt I had to re-enter my WiFi password etc, but it did connect. It connected, retrieved the update etc. After which I’ve had six options in the display setting.
I am definitely interested in seeing a DF review of the new Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro. Man I wish I had room in my house for the Capcom Home Arcade 😂.
I don't like the Neo Geo stick at the moment because its just fighting games. I mean I really like fighting games but I can only play a couple at a time at most properly.
@@robertwilson3866 they are supposedly going to offer a way to add games to it. Also there are supposedly according to SNK unlockable games hidden on it. I would recommend to wait and see what they do. It also makes for a good controller for your PC, Switch, or other compatible console.
I wonder if that extension port will be to upgrade and/or add more games?
What I want is to see a physical release on PS4, Switch, and X1 instead.
They cannot support roms in official capacity or atleast wouldn't endorse it. With a regular usb, running unsigned code on it would be relatively simpler.
@@diazostreta4473 I guess? Again though, I'd rather we get more collections on modern consoles instead.
@@diazostreta4473 I think he meant official releases. As in you would buy an 8 game pack on a prewritten USB.
The problem with that so far is that the console has a limit of 16 games so it seems that you only can replace the games on it, not more than 16 games in total..
Seems like a good product!
Got mine yesterday. Found out to my sadness it was a type G power adapter. So now I have to wait for my type b to type g adapter. Oh well. Good things come to those who wait. I think it was a strong intro lineup and look forward to expanding the library. Please let there be official games to add Koch Media from your website.
Looks nice, just wish the price wasn't so expensive. Interested to see what the USB port does.
I have all of these on my snes classic and they run like butter :)
DF Retro, please do a Red Faction series analysis next! The destructible environment physics is still unbeaten to today :)
Armored Warriors is on the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle for PS4 on sale until Nov 22 on the Playstation store.
I'd love to see John Linneman do a review of the Neo Geo Pro Arcade stick, especially now that it's hacked.
Capcom: You can't have AvP and Marvel titles on modern home consoles because we don't have the licenses.
Also Capcom: We put AvP on this $260 oversized arcade stick, MSH, COTA, and Punisher on this $400 arcade cabinet.
I'm not exactly sure how licensing works, but there is a price tier for different level of licensing. There might be a loophole where buying the rights to publish on a unit or device to play these things is different to publishing on a console, or maybe capcom didn't pay the license for these games, but Arcade 1up and who ever made this capcom stick paid FOX(Disney?) and Capcom for the rights.
What're the best settings for AMD Adrenaline guide 2019 any time soon chaps? never really know what to use in global settings.
Why does Mercs and UN Squadron always get missed out. Would have been a definite by for me if they were included.
I agree, both of those games are fantastic, even the 16-bit ports to Genesis and Snes were great, the full arcade version would have been best. I think arcade mercs is on one of the 6th gen capcom collection volumes though
UN Squadron is licenced from Area 88 Manga or whatever it is called. They could put Carrier Airwing in there though without Sean Connery of course.
I wonder if the usb extension port is for a third controller or something so you can get 3 players in some games like AvP?
AvP was my favorite capcom arcade game I’ve played through so many times.
7:36 That's 1944. 1942's from 1984. Awesome game too.
Where can this be purchased for US customers? All I've found is the European sales page.
This stick as I understand it is a idea by the European publisher Koch Media, maybe that's why it's not available in the US :)
Check the website for Jb Hi Fi in Australia and check if they ship to US
I've had mine for about 24 hours and so far my experience with it correlates with your review, though I didn't have any issues connecting to my Netgear D7800 via WiFi. I'm hoping that more updates and games will be available in future updates. If you're in Australia, purchase it from JB HiFi and not EB Games.
I really hope that USB can be used for a 3rd pad, so many CPS titles had a 3-chute cabinet. Armored Warriors is chaotic with two players and a beautiful bedlam with three, especially the combiner chassis.
More games, crt filter and when price drop a little I probably pick up one. I like it.
Does that full size USB port support Lan Adapters for wired connections?
I contacted Koch Media and got a very quick response. I reported bugs but also more game request.
There was response was to contact Capcom with request so I think if we want more games we need to voice this directly to Capcom.
Upon hearing the first few notes of the background music, I thought it was Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
Can this be used as external controllers for other devices?
Can you look at the Switch version of A Hat In Time? That happens to be a pretty...interesting...case study as far Switch ports go.
Look! It’s James Rofle and Mike Mattei!!
I like the idea behind this product, and the design may be weird at first glance but at least it looks cool ! However the amount of included games is a real bummer for the asked price !
You aren't paying for the games; you're paying for the stick.
I know most of the price tag lies in the stick and I would agree with your statement if you could use it as a proper arcade stick on a PC for example, but that isn't possible. It is sold as a full system with 16 built in games and that's all you can do with it.
@@alfr83 it's going to be hacked soon. It uses FBA so anything could be potentially loaded on to it.
Cool, you put Alfred Chicken on it!
Hardware - the mobo is similar to what's inside the Super Retrocade by Retrobit - based on the Orange Pi 2 afaik. The Super Retrocade is open to mods easily, via. It's usb or SD, and can use lakka cfw if you use a boot etcher.
Am a little surprised this has not been similarly 'unlocked'' using its inbuilt usb port. The All winner SOC plays the older stuff really well. Because of the low level of onboard flash ram, these SOC based units are maybe best powered down (restarted) between game changes....helps to flush the memory maybe?
I have never heard the term "Belt Scrollers" before to describe a beat 'em up. Where did that come from, is it a literal translation to the genre in Japanese?
I would be interested in an emulation comparison between the titles that are present in this collection and the beat em up bundle.
Your WiFi Connection issue sounds like its specific to your unit. I'd get on to Koch ASAP.
Pauls hardware and DreamcastGuy from another dimension
Notes on reddit say to use a wifi ssid with no spaces in the name. Works with wpa or wpa2
Whats the intro music called? Seriously DF. You guys need add the names of all the music you use for each video. Some good stuff here.
Aliens vs predator 👌
Only a true Capcom fanboy will have this
Can you use this as 2 controllers on the PC?
Maybe the stutter U r experiencing are related to a hung up service that is still trying to connect once u tried to enable a wifi connection. This is a CPU sharing limitation and its mostly related to a code bug, so a connection is opened to check for a server and it's unresponsive, then it will keep retrying on the background while you are elsewhere playing games
I missed this coming out, but would've climbed over a hill of family and friends just to play AvP.
That USB port better be for replacing Darkstalkers with Night Warriors and adding Vampire Savior sometime down the line.
For a second, I was thinking that this was a Game Sack episode
Well, gamesack is a solo show now
Love this CAPCOM design and quality, sanwas alone are worth the price point and obviously it will be updated!
I would love if you could do a review on Capcom Retro Station
How did you manage to display that HDMI output on a CRT ?
I guess just HDMI todo VGA adaptor . Nothing else because that type of monitors, believe it or not, can manage well resolutions above 1080p.
Where did John get that SEGA hoody?
I'm probably in the minority but I think the design looks great.
Mine didn't come with a cover for the extension port but the Wi-Fi connection works.
Depending on what version they used, Hyper Fighting's difficulty could be permanently set to the hardest difficulty due to a bug. Changing the difficulty via dip switches won't fix it.
16:15 that CPU grab range tho
Afaik there was at one point with a firmware update to allow the idea to allow it to be used on a PC just like any other USB arcade stick or Xbox controller.
I've always been really impressed by 1944: Loop Master. It natively supports widescreen!
...but, WTF was capcom thinking by not putting Pocket Fighter on this?! That's one of the best "party" fighting games ever made.
can I have the name and model of that flat screen SD monitor?
What's the backgroud music??
I would love to own this. I dont even mind the buttons blending in with the cabinet, you feel the buttons not look. But £200?
I'll have to really think on that :/
Only reason to want this is because it's the only way to have Alien vs Predator Arcade legally licensed
Can you use the USB to hook it to a console to use?
Can this work as a separate controler?
Well if I had it the 1st thing I would do is go play 1942 and then I would notice the problem you guys mentioned. Hopefully they fix it with an update and the onl online works.
Were you guys able to get the WiFi going? Mine has the same issue and won't connect.
This is relatively easy fix fix here - it's in the bug reporting thread, here you go...
Some WiFi access points may fail to connect (usually in the case where there is a space in the WiFi name). This issue is currently being worked on. The current workaround solutions are as follows: Either Connect to a WiFi network that does not have a space in the name or manually change the name of the WiFi network you are trying to connect to to be continuous and without any spaces.
Please tell us how you got on thanks
@@ben01623 It worked! Thank you!!
OK, I take it back. It looked like it worked, but device says it's connected to wifi but I can't get to the leaderboards, nor download the update
but can you use it as a normal arcade stick?
How u order one cause on the website it's no USA
Please do a video about the neo geo arcade stick pro!
Hah, I like you can't choose between Alien vs Predator or Armored Warriors... now I want to see you play through Battle Circuit.
Also noticed the sound drop as well. I tried updating the firmware but couldn’t seem to get the thing to connect. Hopefully that will be resolved shortly.
I was able to update to firmware 1.3, but still noticed the sound drop.
We are looking into this. Please check out the Reddit thread r/capcomhomearcade where information is being posted on the next update
Alien vs. Predator needs to come as DLC for the Beat Em Bundle. I'd pay way too much for that.
Only available in uk?
This is probably not something I would buy due to there only being 16 games and most being better with 2 players, but I hope they make more.
It’s expensive at over $220 I think but I’m excited for what the future holds.
I love that it has arcade joysticks and I really hope there’s a way to hack it and add more games (that’s my only gripe, it needs more games for the high price) so yeah, I would love one but I have no one else to play the 2 player games with.
Modern Vintage Gamer also has a video about this.
Homebrew
Nice moon face John Lol
Is "Belt Scroller" something that was invented at EVO ?Cause it sounds like it was and also something that was made up about three weeks ago. It's called a Beat 'em Up not that abomination .
The guy on the right says it so softly like he is embarrassed.
As a Capcom fan, I would get this.
As a fan of not spending too much money, I could just play these games on MAME.
Just get a £60 Super Retrocade and CFW to Lakka to make a similar spec mame console.
