Especially since the next coach, if the USSF chooses to change, can choose between “proposing a beautiful game” or “winning even with a boring game plan”. Fans today just want someone else.
I defended Berhalter until the 2022 World Cup by saying that we needed to give him at least a full cycle so we could see what he wanted to do with the team. The game against the Netherlands showed his limits as a coach. He never has a plan B. Making high crosses when your players are 8 inches shorter than the opposing central defenders is stupidity but he continues and persists.
For 2 years he didn't learn from his failures. The way he threw Reyna to the press for a locker room discussion is unacceptable. The team's failures is a "we" and the coach is the first to have to take responsibility.

Fundamentally, the USMNT is comprised of players who have spent many hours doing/playing soccer-related activities (drills, trainings, played in games). We lack soccer players.
When I watch Columbia, Argentina, etc I see teams that are comprised of players. Players that can pass, move, think so that they can string 9 consecutive 1 touch passes together that maintain possession of the ball, break lines and lead to high quality scoring. Oh, and they also know how to defend.

Not sure Berhalter is solely to blame, but he sure as hell hasn't done anything to improve things. Under Herdman and now Marsch, the Canadian national team has started to develop a real identity. We are not nearly as deep as the US, but we at least have a cogent idea of how we want to play and how we need to play to be successful. We have a long ways to go, clearly, but at least we have a map. I feel you need a manager who has a vision for how the US needs to play, somebody like Panama's coach, for instance. I think Jenny is right. We all think these great managers might take the job if we would pay them. But I don't think that is the case. We think to highly of the positions. To get Klopp for example USSF will need to give up some control. To get Klinsman, USSF gave up control. But I do think if Crocker was not preparing for this moment he isn't a very good director. The writing was on the wall and the possibility that a change was necessary was very real months ago. It is summer so a lot of European coaches are available or willing to move. Then there are the Olympic coaches that become available in a month. But with BJ going to Nashville we don't have a readily available interm coach. I guess Micky Varas.

The US men need an experienced coach; experienced in big-games that is. And winning those big games. And maybe look at the prospective coach's experience in leading his team to victories that he (or she) isn't expected to win.

Pep Guardiola is interested in managing a national team.
But because of "equal pay" we have no hope in hiring him because even if Pep did want to manage the USMNT, US Soccer would have to pay the USWNT manager the same amount.
And find me a USWNT manager that is anywhere near Pep Guardiola's level and prestige. The only managers anywhere close currently managing are his fellow managers in the Premier League, like Jurgen Klopp.
Equal pay is going to be the big weight that keeps US Soccer down.

This team doe not have the quality to win consistently against high quality teams when it matters. You can fire the coach but a great coach with a mediocre group of players will result in more disappointment. It isn’t the player’s fault. It is the federation and the media who have hyped this team up with no justification. Nepotism in coach and player selection is the problem.

The USMNT needs a coach who is not going to be their friend. They need a coach who is going to give them constructive criticism for a win as much as he does for a loss. The problem is Berhalter wants to be a likable coach. That doesn't cut it and this was the problem when you have players telling US Soccer, "Hey, I like this coach because he's nice." No, this guy's time ran out after the 2022 World Cup. Berhalter has gotta go, now.

What’s so crazy is the job is now in my opinion less desirable than in 2019 or right after the Netherlands loss in 2022 since then all of the drama between Reynas and Berhalter only to hire him back. Then we get embarrassed in the friendly against Colombia and now this. The job definitely feels more like damaged goods now with a weird radioactivity around it which is a corruption in US Soccer. We can absolutely still upgrade the manager but that is not saying much. Just gotta pray at this point

The only Golden thing about this team was Gregg’s Golden tan he had… he must go… it all comes down to money, because the deal the us has with the woman team… they have to pay the new coach the same as the women… no one from another country will take this job for $20 an hour that we pay….

$1.3 million per year? That's Derphalter's salary. It's middling, could be better, but it's not chicken feed. I'd be willing to coach just as many losing games for far less.
