New Law Requires Cars to Alert and Annoy Speeding Drivers

- A new law will requires cars to alert and annoy speeding drivers. Guess which state just passed the bill to require all new cars to alert drivers they are speeding? And you can’t shut it off! Of course, it’s California. This means every state will follow because car manufacturers will not build a car for just one state. They will add this frustration feature to all 2030 new cars, calling it a “safety feature”. One that is outside drivers control. Intelligent speed limiters is the catch phrase.
This law that impacts all of North America sold cars has NO shut off. There is more to this foolish bill. Democratic San Francisco Senator Scott Wiener authored Senate Bill 961, which would require all cars manufactured or sold in California to be equipped with speed warning technology called intelligent speed assistance. Like I said, it’s sold to you as a safety feature and not a nanny or control.
Thanks for watching!

Instead of making license test stricter, enforcing traffic laws, stopping cars from being stolen, or punishing the street racers, they make everyone suffer.
they exploit a flaw of human reasoning, if people don't think deeply and critically they will generalize and come up with bandaid solutions instead of thinking about the root causes of problems.
for example gun violence
they aren't gonna solve the issues like poverty, surrogate activities in our society making people depressed, SSRIs, drug abuse, overworking people, etc, but they will say we should ban guns.
its so they can have more control because they will never leave an unexploited opportunity for more control and power on the table. they don't actually care about anyone who is a victim or disturbed perpetrator of gun violence, it's just an excuse to make you less powerful over your own life and freedoms so they can be the ones to have that choice over you.

Welcome to the trucking industry. All semi trucks have those devices on them. Where do you think they first introduce and prefect the technology. It's always starts with the trucking industry and is done in the name of safety. Once introduced into the trucking industry, they'll then move it over to the public. It has nothing to do with safety. It's all about control.😮
I thought most trucks just had a hard limiter that was irrespective of (and often times set lower than) the actual speed limit.
That's why I'm giving up my cdl. I worked my asx off for it and paid 5k, 25 years ago. And keep it even when I was not driving anymore. One less American driver and some NONE SPEAKING OR READING ENGLISH PERSON given a license to drive like they do in the old country, And F the American SAFETY Roads RULES. is how they will drive, remember our prisons are better than the places they live in as a free person.
They have governers and are set by the companies. But the trucks also have tale tells that report to the companies and warning buzzers that go off warning the driver when over the speed limit. It will first be put on as a warning device. Then it will become mandatory to report it to law enforcement and they'll send you a ticket in the mail and after so many they will enact the limiter on your vehicle like they do on big trucks. That is what's coming. This is just the beginning of it. Look at photo radar. Look at the seat belt law and how it started out. As a warning. Not anymore. @StolenJoker84
Wait, I thought ALL internal cubustion vehicles were going to be banned from being sold in Kalifornia after 2030 ?????
They change their mind because of all the ev car fires, and lack of a power grid strong enough to charge all vehicles in Kalifornia ??
Scott wiener passed a bill a few years ago declaring 13 year old boys as old enough to decide if they consent to a relationship with an adult. I believe his name gives it away
I am a semi truck driving instructor in Oakland California. I see drivers doing stupid things every day like going 70 mph+ in a 30 mph zone and running traffic lights. They're driving cars that can go faster than their ability to control it. Many semi trucks have speed limiters and not some buzzer / flashing light. Speed limiters in cars would save more lives than flashing lights. I believe California should require applicants to pass an IQ exam before an license can be issued. Let the screaming begin!
I'm a delivery driver in the Houston, TX, area & concur with this 100%. The stupidity has reached all the way over here & it's past time to rein it in.
Well, maybe the people in California need it but we don’t need it here where I live
And they want to defund the police. Vote with your money and not buy any of these vehicles.
I don’t recognize California as part of the US anymore
The car manufacturer companies will be well within their rights to sue the state of California over this. It’ll dramatically reduce their profits and cost the companies money.
Politicians especially in California should be focused on the homeless problems they created.
I am in agreement. We still have to power to say no. As soon as cars like this are available we can hurt them the only way they don’t like at the pocket book. We don’t need to buy new we can keep the old for a year or two more to get our point across. Not to mention who is paying for this mandate. The consumers are. You me and everyone else not in power. You think this system is free? It’s bad enough when the trucks are over 100,000 dollars who the hell want to pay 75k for a Corolla or a Chevy Malibu or even a ford focus. That is ultimately where we are heading if we don’t put a stop to this crap
Purchase as many older cars and vehicles as you can and store them you're all going to need them it's an infringement of our freedoms
I know I am the "Odd Man Out", but this is in our best interest. I am 61 years old and when I first got my driver's license, it was during a gas crisis and the top speed limit across the nation was 55 mph. We have gotten spoiled with the increased speed limits and there really is no reason why we *need* to drive 80 or 90 mph.
Someone in the comments reporta having driven 120 mph to outrun a hurricane. Tropical storms are not racing across the country at 100 mph, so that is just a lame excuse.
You're not alone. I share those exact same sympathies.
For the record, I'm a delivery driver around Houston, TX & even 40-50 miles outside the city, I see the stupidest stuff happen. Everything from speeders going 120+ MPH on the freeway to wrong-way drivers.
Governments don't do a whole lot of things right, sure, but reining in speeders is a definite positive in my book.
Then we should legally require truck drivers going 20+ UNDER the limit to pull over or get a felony charge.
At that speed, not only are they not even doing their job, but they’re making it harder for everyone BEHIND them to even get to work.
We need MINIMUM speed signs.
This is how dumb the bureaucrats are worried about in our falling state!?! Instead of fixing things that we ACTUALLY need fixed!! Life is crazy, quit padding corners for stupid people!!!!
So a person buys a new car with their hard earned money and the government tells you how to drive it. WE need to downsize our government people and take take our country back.
It's gonna be safety feature for all but who can afford the most expensive cars. This people have full right to plow into family of four everyday. No consequences, other than damage received from crash.
I foresee aftermarket head units becoming a thing again…
It really doesn't matter because our cell phones already track our speed. And sooner or later they will just issue tickets based on it.
This is why even as a 26 year old i am driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan thats almost as old as me, i wouldn’t trade it for any type of newer vehicle. I love being in control and connected to my vehicle i am driving.
I used to have an ‘02 Voyager. Loved that little van.
This bill is an awful idea. If signed into law, I can see it being abused by drivers who want to annoy other drivers. I have a 500HP EV. Love it. I like having that amount of power incase I need get out the way or speed to safety.
That's why I drive a 2012 with 250K miles and will never buy a car built after 2014. Plus I do all my own repairs and anything after 2014 needs computers I don't have. Knowing that I will die before I turn 55 makes life somewhat easier for me.
I wish these politicians would stop trying to take away my freedom. I think the right response would be to sign a bill revoking their right to a paycheck until this and similar laws are revoked. Furthermore a law should be put in place that two laws must be struck off the books for every new law signed. It's getting too complicated.
Why do so many of you think you have the freedom to be a lawless asshole…?
It's a crime to disable safety features now called (delete). But no one gets punished for it. Florida is a good example
You mean people who break the law don't follow laws. 😂Those law makers are idiots that is why California is so messed up.

So distracted driving will be required by the legislature?
Who is the government telling me what I can do but yet they can do wrong with are money all the time and get away with it but we cant
Seems the government nor the car companies doesn’t understand I own the car if I bought it. If they want to demand such things, they should pay for it. Just like the farmers and John Deere!
But they do own and maintain the roads you drive on. Therefore they have full jurisdiction telling you how to drive on those roads.
How about leaving everyone ALONE?!
How does this “intelligent“ system know what the current speed limit is - does it “read” signs with cameras or are the limits pre-programmed in, what happens if the sign reading mechanism fails or the speed limit is changed and the previous speed limit is all the system has? If it uses a camera what if that camera can’t read signs? As if I needed another reason to keep my old cars and not drive in California.
UFR, thank you as always Lauren.

My 2018 Volvo has this feature. The speedometer will show the actual speed I’m going and the posted speed. Every time that I cross over from the posted speed, I hear a chime that lets me know I have passed the posted speed.
that's been implemented in Europe for years.
Yeah, cause drunk driving, distracted driving, self driving, dumb driving is definitely not a thing. But go ahead and add another thing to distrac the driver, I see a lot of people turning that thing off. Im good with my older cars
I won't have this problem because I'm never buying a new car.
Ummm......not every state will follow because not every state follows California's laws. They won't make a car with a speeding feature for just one state but they won't make a car with that same exect feature for the rest of the country either.
Good luck selling any new cars, manufacturers wont go for it.
I mean if the system works properly and the system knows the speed limits, then it shouldn't be too bad. 10 mph over the speed limit is a bit excessive.
Used cars prices about to sky rocket
here in Canada we have the 401 highway has a speed limit ... 1 out of 100 follows it ... limit is 100 but 110to 140 is reality !!
Just stop buying new cars for 2 years and this will go away.
Remember 80 mph odometers yea it’s not here anymore because it didn’t do anything.
Here’s yet another example of a good intention gone bad. Cars need to be more fuel efficient, therefore they are more aerodynamic and have enough gears in the automatic transmission for an old school semi. Some of these 8 or 10 speed automatics have multiple overdrives, allowing the engine to turn at a slower rpm in order to maintain the same speed. Well, guess what happens. The cars can actually drive faster without over speeding the engine, the brakes, suspension and tires must be upgraded. The one thing that isn’t upgraded, the nut behind the wheel.
Of course, there is no reason to ever go above the posted speed limit. (Need a mop for that dripping sarcasm.)
There have been times where i have pegged the needle 20 mph over the speed limit. Those were mainly cases where it was windy, and I was passing a semi going just under the speed limit. They were fish tailing, and i did not want to be anywhere near them.
What about older cars with over the air updates? Like my 2 Teslas... this is horrible
Just one more reason I will never buy a new car again...
Any Vehicle with navigation and a smart phone can Ido this already. Your insurance company is probably paying for the satellites and infrastructure to monitor it. Traffic violations already affects the premium you pay for insurance, you will just get your tickets by mail. If you dont want to pay more follow the same rules everyone does.
So let's say there is a road rager, and you are trying to get away from them as quickly as possible, now you are basically a sitting duck. What about if several cars are trying to block you in. Leave us the hell alone.
And what really sucks about all of this is that if you live in another state like outside of California, you have no options. You cannot go to your senator or congressman or anything and say hey. Don't let this bill pass. I mean I can go to my congressman but I'm in Tennessee and he's going to say I have no jurisdiction there here's another idea. Stop buying new cars because a lot of them anymore are just not very well put together. Not very well. Engineered and they're terrible to get parts for they're terrible to work on and they're severely overpriced and caused her so overpriced. People are having to finance cars for not 5 years. They're financing cars out for six or seven or 8 years. So let's all go back to driving older cars and trucks and let's just keep doing that. And let's just start maintaining these older cars and trucks a whole lot better and we can keep our older vehicles on the road and avoid buying these newer vehicles that are going to have all these nannies on them that are monitoring you and telling you you can't drive this fast and telling you this and telling you that basically getting in the way of actually enjoying driving
I suppose that other states could actually ban speed limiters. That would be very popular with the public, but would probably be politically hard to pass--"Senator So-and-so banned speed limiters, he doesn't care about public safety." But at least auto manufacturers would have no choice but to build different cars for different states. Another option for other states would be to raise the speed limits.
@@ThreeQuartersCrazed Our speed limits are already high enough outside of CA. Look at Texas; we have 80 MPH speed limits on interstates out west, and a rural toll road with a whopping 85 MPH speed limit. That, I argue, is TOO fast.
@@cameraredeye3115 In my state I've never seen a speed limit above 70 mph. The federal government technically allows states to set their own speed limits, but (at least in the past, prob still true now but I would have to check) withholds highway funding if the Interstate limits are set above 70 mph. Most states comply to get the extra money, but some don't.
As to whether or not 80-85 mph is too fast, it simply depends on the road. Autobahn drivers in Germany routinely go that fast. If the road is straight with wide enough lanes and multiple lanes going in each direction, a decent driver could easily go 85 mph.
I think our problem in the US is that we think that there's hard cutoffs for which speeds are safe on the highway and which are not. It really just depends on the road. And we tend to try to rely heavily on speed reduction to reduce traffic incidents, instead of teaching people how to drive properly.
Like anybody would go to jail for this disassembling that anyways they have seatbelt laws and they don't even do anything with that

Speed isn't the problem. In states like Montana, the death and accidents rates aren't higher than other states, yet there are vast stretches where there either is an 80 MPH limit or it effectively doesn't have one. The issue is bad drivers and bad driver training. I was trained by both a truck driver and a race car driver. The lame "drivers ed" courses that are out there, don't do much.
There are times when it's perfectly fine to be faster than the speed limit. IF you have your car in good working order and are trained to handle speed. Many countries also require much more for a vehicle to be allowed on the road than what we do. Beyond just a simple smog check. Many places require the car to pass a full safety check. It goes through tires, suspension, structure, etc. Some of the junk that's allowed to be on the roads is a major problem. Also, there are many accidents that are caused by speed the reverse way. The person who stays in the fast lane but goes slow and forces people around them on the right. Or those who are going so slow that a person going regular speed has a quick lapse in concentration or gets distracted and people have to slam on brakes. The people behind the slow person now have an accident, but the slow person never gets cited as the real cause of the incident.
Also, there are times that you may need to go faster than a posted limit, from medical situations, to problems with the car that you need to get somewhere quick. It may be an item on the cars, but just like emission items that only CA requires, it may not have to be on all cars. Or if it's a software item, can be disabled either ate the end of build depending on where the car goes, or at the dealership before delivery. Problem is it will be more to go wrong with the car. Also, this will make cars even more expensive in CA. No out of state dealers will trade with CA. So stock will become more limited. More CA stupidity. With all that's wrong with CA, this is what they have time to worry about?
