A brilliant drama series made in an era when television was a pleasure to watch as opposed to all this reality tv bullshit that we are overwhelmed with. I hardly ever watch the terrestrial to channels as it is all crP except for good dramas still on the BBC but anything else I used to buy off Amazon similar series like this one or I watch them on RUclips as is the case now. Thank you so much for letting us all re-live and enjoy to at it's best.
Yep! I'll drink to that! Comedy, mystery and cop shows like the Sweeney are the best.; Life on Mars was a pleasant surprise and Ashes to Ashes, all based on the time period these great shows are from. At the same time, dealing with the law then was not as pleasant! So glad there are on YT, I won't pay for cable and the commercials it was created to avoid!
utterly brilliant! i was too young for this back in 78(13 years old) i remember it being on and the graffiti in london and its great to watch it now as a 55 year old, superb acting, great cars and a brilliant snapshot of england in the late 70's, imagine ITV showing something as good as this now? i mean there are still very good dramas on today but they are the exception not the rule, from tellys golden age, superb, thanks very much
Never heard of this before, I only watched it because of Tom Bell. Totally hooked! Well written and Tom Bell makes the part of Frank Ross his own. Brilliant! Thanks
amugen the jaguar 420g was my dads and it was hired to the production crew for 2 weeks in 1978. He always mentioned it to me but I've only just looked this show up and found it! What a car to have in them days!
I was actually looking for Bell's "Hope It Rains", because I can't find it on DVD, and this popped up. I was well aware of the works of Tom Bell........except for this one. Wow, how did I miss this? Well, any of us over here in America, that love British drama and comedy, really have to work overtime to find all this good stuff; so it takes a while. And lookie here at a young Brian Cox! LOL!!! Thanks, that was great. Watched all six episodes in one evening. RIP Tom
I recently came across *Sandbaggers* - British spies & office politics from way back when, you might like us! Came here from The Sweeney with JohnThaw --- later of *Morse*
Bloody brilliant! What a series this was. Never saw the full series, but now have. Tom Bell played Frank Ross to perfection. What happened to this quality of drama? I am so sick and tired of watching soft pap crap acted series, and reality television garbage. This series was made in an era when fine actors, decent story lines, and real dramas were the best. Drama's like these hooked you in early, and you could not drop watching them all the way through. This was the way of it in the days of decent dramas. Thanks for putting this series on You Tube again. I really enjoyed it.
Hasn't lost a whit of its impact in 40 years. I saw it as a pimply teen in 1978, and Frank Ross scared the shit out of me then, and he's doing the same four decades later! Utter brilliance. Euston Films were on a roll then with this, The Sweeney and Minder.
that black bird was in love thie neighbour . billies bird . the cortina was the car of the day . lol . the days when coppers come in pubs . looking around and asking questions . also when they were on the beat in pairs . which is a rareity now . the only protection they had . was a trungeon . no stab proof jacket . extened batton . pepper spray , radio on their shoulder .
1:17 They are on the A40 Western Avenue and had just passed my house on the right. As a kid I lived at 146 Western Avenue. I used to take that footbridge in the background to school everyday.
Been watching this on 'Talking Pictures'. a great show, right down to the end theme music and credits. Superb bit of drama. Who doesn't love a bit of gangster drama...you slag!!! :)
a few faces , who were seen in later years . quinin from the bill . that bloke in george and mildred . duffy from please sir .a couple from the sweeney and minder . .
Brilliant series! The best line of this episode........" if you grass on me the two sides of your body wont match". They just dont know how to make classic series like these any more. 40 years ago.....another world altogether and no one has to worry about being politically correct!!

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Spoiler alert :help I need to know what really happened at the end, I mean blimey did the crooked Policeman get away with it scot free and also that filth Tony McGrath? That can't be right.

Those TV companies had the monopoly on ad revenue though. Today its a fragmented market hence cheap reality TV
a gem of a sadly short lived series from a bygone British age!

Great old London series when we had a great city

Never heard of this before, I only watched it because of Tom Bell. Totally hooked! Well written and Tom Bell makes the part of Frank Ross his own. Brilliant! Thanks
Tom Bell and Brian Cox! (It doesn't get any better...
Nice example of a Jaguar 420g in this episode. This is series has a lot of overtones of Minder which would come out the following year.
amugen the jaguar 420g was my dads and it was hired to the production crew for 2 weeks in 1978.
He always mentioned it to me but I've only just looked this show up and found it!
What a car to have in them days!
the rag and bone man . the milk man , no plastic bottles . all glass . half day wednesday . sunday was a day of rest , no shops open 24 hours a day ,
Tom Bell. Was a brilliant actor.
is he dead?

I watched it the first time around, and I found Tony McGrath far scarier than Frank Ross.

1:17 They are on the A40 Western Avenue and had just passed my house on the right. As a kid I lived at 146 Western Avenue. I used to take that footbridge in the background to school everyday.

The flats are on Cremorne Road in Chelsea overlooking the Thames. Still there today !
that tape recorder lol . about 12 inches wide.
Hear hear!!!
Chelsea has changed a bit since the 70's
Better than the Sweeney. Frank Ross should have been a D.I. Underated series.
The only problem is that Frank Ross was a criminal, a bank robber. Not many wind up as Detective Inspectors!
Only 6 sadly , Tom Bell didnt want to do another series
McGrath getting away makes it obvious a sequel was planned.
John junkin!. 😊
wooden sash windows , metal guttering . wooden doors .
What language is this?
no mobiles . no seat belts . no anpr . paid in cash . by security van . 2 old geezers with a chin strap . carrying about 5 grand . no wonder their was a blagg every week .
