Brooo just came across this app and lemme just say I've never been blown away by an app before. Holy cow every feature on this thing had me in shock that there's no subscription needed. Hyped gonna be using this for the doge
Hi MnG G, From day 1 we work under the belief that home security should be accessible to everyone. And we are glad that you like Alfred! (Also thanks to Jordan's well-made video!) Feel free to stay tuned for latest feature updates on Twitter :)
simple tri pod - the plastic thing in the center of a pizza box, flipped over, you can trim or bend the posts to improve angle/position. Another one, basic metal-and-rubber clips work great if you have them. Cloths pins chopped short work as well. Do not recommend paper binders and theclip strenghth is too strong, unless you have a piece of metal plate to distribute the force, but, if you can use those, rubber band the legs to keep them from collapsing.
I use a smart plug to charge an old Samsung. Timed charging comes on when battery runs flat ( Normally after 5 hours) charge to 85% then shuts off. Whole cycle repeats daily. No issues, Alfred does not miss a single thing, amazing.
Setup experiments I've used that have worked: Legos, box, cheap old flexible mini tripods (Note that I don't have it attached to the tripod and the conventional way. I use the legs to hold brace and aim), zip ties to something, blue painters tape, a glass, between books..... Obviously everything depends on where you want it and how you need it aimed. Aesthetic aside, once you commit a phone to this purpose options open up that you wouldn't use with a phone you're going to have on you day-to-day. I have one "peeking" just out of the corner of a window out the front of my house. My original use was a view of the kitchen so I could keep an eye on our Great Dane puppy (1-year-old head is above the counter without lifting his chin) the microphone feature is wonderful. He wanders in and hears "Out!" Immediately turns tail and exits. Anyway, get creative. It's fun!. I also ordered a couple of their hardware cameras. Excited to see how those work
Been using 3 old phones as cameras for over a year now ...got one of them on my window facing front yard and it works great captures more motions then my outdoor blink camera. I however would like to give it a try at the alfred outdoor camera but I don't know if will it still record and save data for free just like the old phones do. Any comments I would do appreciate .
What which phones tend to start fires after being plugged in for long periods (1-3 weeks)? Alfred looks good, but its not worth it if an old phone battery explodes and burns down your apartment or house.
Does the Alfred app have to be running or can it be incognito in the background. Like could you continue to use the phone like normal using normal apps without actually noticing that the camera is functioning?
I would definitely be careful with this and recommend not using an old phone as a camera, the reason being is when you have that phone plugged in all the time, it's bad for the battery and it could explode, which is what happened to me. This could cause a fire. I recommend buying the actual camera that Alfred sells when it becomes available.
Yeah I agree with this advice and mentioned this at the end. It's a serious concern and I do have a hardware cam review in the works too. Good comment man
Meanwhile u can buy smart switch plugs and u can connect phone charger plug on it . When u are far from home u can turn on switch with Alexa and recharge phone . So battery never finish 😜
i mount mine with an old selfie stick. If you're not worried about asthetics, you can use some rubber bands to stick your phone on some books or boxes. Cut some holes in the box, and you can see your phone camera screen. Looks terrible, but your dog won't care 🙂 Finally, you can buy cheap tripod or selfie kit to hold the phone.
Does the phone using that camera have to use Wi-Fi or can it just connect with a data plan? I was considering using it as a security camera in my storage unit while keeping it plugged into a portable generator.
It keeps recording for 14 days ($30 annual fee to save playback). Personally that is easily worth it compared to how much a "real" home security system costs
@@jcrowley1985If I have existing free app and in use, If I upgrade for a premium plan, will I need to log in again and set up my device again? or it will continue and automatically become premium right aft
I was using this app, but now it's useless unless you pay. The videos are no longer stored on the cloud. Before, if they stole the phone, you could still get the videos from the cloud. Now, if you don't pay, the videos are stored on the phone, so if the burglar takes the phone, you have no videos to help police catch them.
You can add as much as you want I believe. I've had it for years and recently need to use again. Needs to be plugged in to keep phone charged. Needs a constant internet access. You can view from anywhere as long as it has internet and power. You switch phones for different area viewing, but there's usually an add pop-up which you just exit out of. It does have night vision, flash, alarm, and a speaker. Just sucks that it runs on like 240p or something low quality. But it will capture and record to the users phone, not the camera unit. You can delete as you like since it does have motion detection which is cool. But for a cheap placement it's not too bad. I used to watch my kids from work and it does capture in real-time, not lag. Daytime viewing is much better due to lots of light. Aside from the blurry quality it's decent.
If you have an extra charging brick you can place the phone between the plug prongs, that what i do for all my phone since i have a bunch of charging bricks.
We have a problem with this app it give that the camera phone is not working and that this phone is being using other app . knowing that this phone is not used by anyone
I don't think so. Only if you need that HD detail for reading things like license plates or something. For common, casual use I think the free option is more than enough
Alfred was working ok until I upgraded to premium, unfortunatedly there is no customer support! Don't pay the money! the funcionallity gets worse in stead of better! If you register with the wrong google account it is impossible to correct it!

@@RksYt007 here already wrote that you can connect the phone to a smart outlet. and according to the timer, the charger will automatically turn on and off after a certain time.
I put mine on the window edge with cardboard sigh saying cameras in use, little do outsiders know... That cams right behind it and there's a lil hole to see through on the back cam

Not working against crime cause of up to 120 sec delay before video will be sent to their cloud. 120 sec is more than enough to switch it off. Tested it - no video in the cloud if switch off after 1 minute of dance in front of the alfred camera. But if you a thief, do not dance too long, cause after 120 secs video will be sent to the cloud.
It used to record to the cloud for free. That's why I liked it, because if someone broke in while I was at work, and they took the phone, I could still use my other phone to pull up the videos and show police. A few weeks ago they changed it. If you use the free account, it saves the videos to the device you are using, such as an old smart phone. You have to pay for a subscription to get them saved to the cloud now. So now if they break in and take the phone, I can't get the videos.

It's the best I can do especially with a spare phone lying around! Did you end up trying it out?
Great video, thank you Jordan :)

Legend! thanks
You can connect the camera phone to a Bluetooth speaker for much louder and better quality sound if you want to scare the shit out of intruders.
Thats a good idea lol
This is a Master Upgrade idea ! Thank you so much, @youtube8775 ;-) Just GREAT !!! Gonna try this with my wife, a.s.a. she wakes up

Does camera phone ecord when is it offline and store videos on camera phone?
For mounting hot glue works wonders! Easy to peel off.
Sounds like a good suggestion, I'm sure its easy to clean too
What which phones tend to start fires after being plugged in for long periods (1-3 weeks)?
Alfred looks good, but its not worth it if an old phone battery explodes and burns down your apartment or house.
Also, plug one on to you car port for a cheqp dashcam
Seems if the old phone still has service you can use this as a fpv camera and transmitter for something like a large RC car

Hello can you connect a Bluetooth speaker
I’ve designed a mount for a rafter to put a iPad in it
Instead of toggling front n rear cameras, be cool if could use both sides simultaneously in a car
Totally agree man it's a huge missed opportunity. This would be an amazing dash cam if that was possible!
The one that will be recording will it go on sleep mode? Or we have to set it up somewhere to stay on.
Excellent review; keep them coming.
do we need internet on the phone or tablet being the camera, can you check the video from anywhere in the world?
It's a badass camera set up portable on the go for any reason, as a body cam / Dash cam/ in front of the hotel room window cam...

Yes you can. They automatically record up to 15 seconds of they detect movement. You can also manually record via the app
Will this work with hotel wifi (aka, landing page)?
Does this app works if I turn of my data or wifi ???
doesn't work without wifi
using double sided adhesive tape works good but How you install Alfred with broken display? some aux speaker with cable I use on a old amplifier
difficult the use on a desktop computer if you don't want a webcam on it
Can it record and overwrite data based on retention needs? Does it require internet access? Just want to access footage locally

Bro it's ok you can just just WATCH YOUR LIVE STREAM AND WHO THE HECK CARE
You can also buy a full sail Alfred cam, there great
doesn't work with VPN
One question what about charging? Can I just plug my phone to charger for long time?
No Dr Dr Dr

one can simply remove the batteries and mod it to run on powersupply.

You log in and choose viewer or camera. That’s it. Not much to set up. There’s are some options but it’s all self explanatory
I can show exactly how to mount to walls but I don't know where to send pictures
Can it run on a blue tooth hot spot from a smartphone??
