You would think two hundred thousand dollars for a truck these would be armor plated lol or even protected a bit more but no none of the truck manufacturers care. Guess it gives us something to do on our home time. Two things I did was use stainless Wilson heavy duty mounts to hold down my antennas I did have to drill out the top cover a bit and it took my k40 monster antennas and I used wire loom on the exposed area by the bottom of the mirror, then turn signal mirror covers and turn signal lower mirrors. The coax I used was the k 40 mini plug that screws off much like yours only smaller it went through no troubles. I connected both antennas up direct to the cb and linear and ran a wire antenna up above the console for the am /FM and weather radio it actually works better than before , I did place my Sirius XM antenna on my right mirror on one of those plates like you took off it didn't hurt the tube or transmit on the antenna and swr's came out good. You feel a sense of accomplishment when your done and a big sigh of relief took nearly 5 hours to do it all but looks good and about 450.00 for all the parts mirror covers, mirrors, cables and mounts , the aerodynamic mirror covers like the new volvos. I'm Hoping to hear you all on the road so far all I hear is the guy in new mexico talking about selling cbs and back to the bench I'm sure you all know who I mean. Thanks for the video
I hit a limb in SC headed to a pick, yeah SC doesn't trim trees that well on two lane roads. But thanks to your video I can see what is in there and I probably just need to tighten that nut on the bracket. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for the video I'm going to have to do this myself. Can you give us a little bit of information on how difficult it was on the interior to run the new wire to your radio was it difficult? Thanks
you should of bypassed the bracket by the door{ where the hinge is} and gone directly down{with a small loop on the coax} to the hole and rubber boot going into the cab, that way there is no bending and unbending when you open and close the door. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort making this vid...great job!!!
Thanks for sharing! I'm going need the info . Replacing both mirrors and cables this weekend my 780. I know this video was before your medical problems . Continued prayers as you recover brother. Gods blessings to you and your family
Yes, thanks for posting. I actually forgot about how much of a pain in the butt these are. Thousands of door opening and closings will eventually break the wire. If you are going through fix your wires using this method I suggest you do it with two people. When you are able to FINALLY pop the mirror loose, have an assistant hold it while you CAREFULLY remove the mirror heating wires with pliers. You DO NOT want to tear off the terminals lightly bonded to the mirror. Plastic cover, clips, pain in the butt # 4. Volvo antenna stud (pain #5) unscrew halfway pop it loose by tapping downward on the nut. If yours needs replacing I suggest you find one with as long of a nut as the original. Prevents a pain later. Clean the stud and bracket of corrosion. I would NOT use the Firestik Firering cable for this job. It leaves too few threads for the nut to hold onto for a long term repair. DO NOT CUT OFF THE END AND REMOVE THE OLD CABLE. Make a decision. Are you going to install cable as to the original design or are you just going to run one antenna on the drivers side? One antenna? Then buy 18 feet of RG8, ( plugs on both ends are easy enough to find ). Cut off the plug on one end of the new cable. Tape this end to the old cable, clean grime off of old cable first. Approximately 6 inches of good quality electrical tape, lay the new cable onto half of the tape and the old onto the other half of the tape. Fold the tape onto the cables. Starting with the old side, wrap the tape around the cable and six inch tape strip. Cut tape from roll. NOW USE THE OLD CABLE TO PULL THE NEW THROUGH THE TUBE. I would not cut the zip ties mounted to the truck but I would cut the cable close to the zip tie and pull the cable through leaving the original zip tie loop as a holder for a new zip tie. Remove the old cable from the new and repeat the process with the old cable going through the truck body. Pull the cable Into the cab and over to the radio. Solder a new PL 259 plug onto the cable. Find a RUclips video on how to do that properly.q If I were to pull the mirror heating wires out of the tube I would first attach a thin string, maybe a couple layers of dental floss, to pull the wires back through. OR tape the mirror plug to the new cable and pull them both. Do you not be in a big hurry to put things back together. Sometimes, rarely, a brand new cable will not carry the radio signal. And will need to be replaced. Antennas need to be “tuned”. See what RUclips has to say on the subject. Once your antennas are tuned and everything is working as it should, THEN put everything back together. Having said all of that consider installing cable, about 25 feet, from the radio, under the cab, up the back and attaching an antenna on the back of the tractor.
After watching this video. Great job my guy. But also great job in convincing me to say nope. Cut all the old wires and tank them out. Run new wire entirely just not using the hollow mirror arms. Cause hell no. Too much work. Just snake wrap it around the arm and weather protect and good to go. I applaud you for doing it the correct way my man. You said you weren’t patient. Yet it takes a lot to do it this way. Job well done
Thanks for showing how to fish the wire through. I've been wondering how to do this for a while. Since everything was apart, I would have updated the ground to the mount as well. I have never owned a firestick before. I will give this antenna a try when I do this. Thanks again.
You might have been able to tie the coax’s together with tape and used the old to pull in the new. Probably wouldn’t work for entrance to the cab. I’m sure all those are zip tied together. Very good job either way. Planning on replacing mine with RG400 and getting a better tune so I can run my RCI2970N2.
Very good video. Thanks... I just want to change my antanna. When I try its was spinning not com a part. I have new volvo. Hear I got many ideas ,even how to change all wrings. Thangs again. I have a question about the spring u install between the antana and the mount. Is it important? Or how it help chatting on CV. If you or anyone know please let me know . Thanksagain
In order for a CB radio to work properly it needs an antenna system that is in “tune”. Antennas need to be tuned in some way, shape or form. The best antenna I can recommend for plug and play is a Francis CB 22, three foot antenna. 90% of the time they work well and they are tough as hell. I have seen one that the fiberglass was split from top to bottom and it still performed. They are designed to be used with 18 feet of cable. Using a SWR meter you can adjust other antennas to perform decently across the CB channels. You can’t always trust a radio that has a built in SWR system until you test it against a separate SWR box/meter.
So where does the Cowax that goes behind the firewall go. I go mine all apart I see where the line goes into the truck, but looks like it’s going behind the dash. How does it make its way to the CB up top?
Does your VNL makes a noise when you release foot brakes degrees and release , a noise like a pipper or horn like ? Mine do that as a let go the brakes foot pedal. No matter I release it slowly or let go quick it makes horn like noise. Can u tell if u have a fix for that ?

Thanks Leon, because of your hard work we are able to solve our issue

You're writing no videos about
I really appreciate you for doing that

Very nice glad I seen this I tried removing it from the outside lol n quit before I broke it
Thank you for your video, now I know what to expect when I put my nose there))
Thank you for sharing this this was very helpful I appreciate your channel
Thanks, Leon. I’ve got to do this soon. Broken cable to my OTR Wilson WeBoost antenna.

thank you driver most of Volvo videos are in broken English. I can translate, but I couldn’t find one on the subject either

Good video helped out a lot now I got find where there routed at in the truck
Thank you for the all this quick question. Do i have to do all this just to change my antenna? Coz somebody hit me when backing up thank you.
Thanks for this video, good job!
Leon, what type of coax cable did you use (I need to replace both my cables)?
I’m using new stock RAMI antennas and stock multiplexer.
Thank you for the video.
Can you please show how to run everything from the firewall please. thanks
Just what I was looking for.
So where does the Cowax that goes behind the firewall go. I go mine all apart I see where the line goes into the truck, but looks like it’s going behind the dash. How does it make its way to the CB up top?
Looks like an Ex DOT truck. I have its twin brother. 👍
Thanks for the help!
Hello. the cable that you ran from the cab and going inside the cab. Where did you connect that one ?
Thank you, this will help me out a lot.
Thanks for sharing
Lotza of work no doubt, where is your cb radio located? On dash or overhead?
Does your VNL makes a noise when you release foot brakes degrees and release , a noise like a pipper or horn like ? Mine do that as a let go the brakes foot pedal. No matter I release it slowly or let go quick it makes horn like noise. Can u tell if u have a fix for that ?
