Carrell and Tatum surprised me with their performances, they knocked it out of the park, especially Carrell. Seeing him go from lovable Michael Scott to... this, was nothing short of stunning. Incredible work by all 3, Foxcatcher is one of my favorites for the year
Channing Tatum is pretty modest and seems almost overwhelmed by the cast of people and crew he was around on this film. I guess this wasn't 21 jump street.
Iker C Yeah. I think he's really taken his career to the next level with this movie and he's discovering a whole new world of film and levels of quality that he hasn't experienced until now.
HillsideKlepht I think he seems irritated that he has to discuss his process w/ this tool-bag interviewer & he resented it when the guy who is supposed to be asking questions tries to force the "american Exceptionalism" theme on them
While all three were awesome, I actually thought Tatum gave the best performance, which is unfortunate since he is the main character and he's being overlooked.
The film is actually about both John du Pont and Mark Schultz, not just Mark. The movie starts its focus on Mark, but once John is introduced, the film begins to shift its focus towards John, especially since the film mostly takes place on Foxcatcher Farms, where John lived. John’s presences never leaves the moment he’s introduced, sort of like Hannibal Lector’s presence stays throughout the entirety of The Silence of the Lambs after we first see his character.
I went through so many emotions during this film. I even cried at one point. It was just so intense and I felt my skin growing hot with fury along with Mark. This movie is amazing.
@@Bananaman11309 Lol you'd prob change your mind if you'd ever wrestled or did anything athletic in your life. It was extremely impressive. Wrestling is the hardest "mainstream" sport on Earth by a mile, and he captured a lot of the mannerisms that elite wrestlers have.. Not to mention capturing Schultz' mannerisms as well. It was a great performance for a very difficult role. Mark Ruffalo is the best actor in the film tho
Just a bit outta his league . Thats all. I STILL get intimidated while sitting down with Steve, Channing but not Marky Ruffels. I don't know. Just my personal opinion and what happens to me sometimes and he only caught 7, not 8 foxes (Channing) in the movies. Sort of false advertisement if ya ask me.. But theta a whooole 'nother tapioca
Folks, what are they doing doing in Hollywood?!? Steve Carell DESERVED the Academy Award for this film! All three actors have outstanding performances in this film. The premise is dark, shocking, remarkable and very honest and true. Again, Steve Carell INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE! Bravo-Bravo!
Brilliant performance by all. I have done a bit of research on dave by now and after re watching the film, i have2say Ruffalo's acting is as good as it gets. Ive not been much of a fan of his work..but he is truly a gifted actor and seemingly dedicated above and beyond
I just loved the performances in the film very very much especially looking at steve i Just could believe it even after when the movie finished. Couldn't believe that happened in reality and looked after the documentary available on Netflix and was sad and blown away more . Dave will be remembered forever
I love Channing's suggestion of playing chess with Bennett Miller at the end. Led to an apt (but really cheesy!) metaphor from the interviewer about the 3 of them being chess pieces in the movie
There should be a interviewer training school somewhere where interviewers get trained to shut the hell up and let their interviewees answer the freaking questions without needing to jump in and show off their own knowledge.
+squarepeg85 Engaging in conversation is just so WRONG! And yup, you totally have a psychic pathway into the mind of the interviewer - hence your 100% accurate understanding of his motivation.
The first time I saw pictures from this film I thought it was a comedy. Up until I watched the trailer I still thought that, so much more serious than I ever imagined.
Always thought Mark Ruffalo was talented, Steve blew my mind in this, and I have always hated Tatum, but he proved to me that he can act because of this film, I won’t say a negative thing about his acting again.
Dave was the real deal. Google "Paly green, Olympic Gold, Fade to black" (vikingsportsmag.com/features/2010/02/22/paly-green-olympic-gold-fade-to-black/) for an excellent article on Dave and Mark written by students at Palo Alto High School, their alma mater. It gives some good insight on both of the brothers. On a more personal level, I was at a freestyle clinic and tournament my senior year, and Dave came as a guest trainer, and he used me to demonstrate a move. A little pain for me meant others learned something new. My brush with fame. :-)
He keeps cutting off and interjecting between their thoughts. I get Vice is trying to use disarming, down to earth, "real dude" journalists but this guy is the worst!
Carrell is actually right in that the real life Du Pont was even creepier and more eccentric than his portrayal. Just check out his 1988 interview/documentary which can easily be found on RUclips. Du Pont came across even more creepy and awkward than Carrell did as him in the film.
this interviewer is awful. talks over them, interrupts them, misunderstands what theyre saying... their responses seem so jaded as the questions just miss the mark
This interviewer keeps interrupting everyone. He seems bent on proving how smart and deep he is. In the way he keeps cutting the actors off and forcing his perspective on them. It's as if the interviewer thinks he's part of the cast in some way. Ugh, he really sucks at what he does, yet I'd be willing to bet he thinks he's really deep and interesting. Lol.
I think Tatum Channing has maneuvered between semi-serious roles in the past...which didn't necessarily challenge him....and after Miller's direction in Foxcatcher he was challenged as never before.....
the film has loads missing, it is over dramatised and a lot of innacuracys. Watch the documentary on foxcatcher. its much better. Though, the movie is actually really good as a movie in its own right, it doesnt do justice to the truth
its a good movie, but when you watch the real footage of John du pont, even his voice and mannerisms are not as sinister as they are in the movie. But hey, everyone has their own opinion
Stop interrupting your guests!! Holy shit, no one is watching this video to hear your answers, we want to hear from the people who were in the film! This is interviewing 101, and yet you fail repeatedly on this issue. Also, you're way too old to be throwing "like" around so gratuitously.
Lmao, this interviewer is so lame. He is trying too hard to get a message. Tf about America exceptionalism or whatever. Take the film at face value cause it's not a story it is real lol
yeah you can tell they dont care channing was the only one that made it obvious the guy was dumb, the other two actors are too professional and sympathized for the interviewer. Tatum was very agitated by the guys POV and questions, he said it straight up "i just played the role and didn't think too hard.
I get what you're saying, and I hate when people try to do that when there's really nothing there. But in this case he has a point. I don't know if I completely agree with his, but the movie shows how you can really damage your kids when you become so successful and rich. Unless you make a conscious effort to make your kids live a normal life; but that's almost impossible when you have that much money. Being born in a rich family is a HUGE disadvantage in life. It's almost crippling.
***** i was confused by that because i think it looks exactly like him, especially if you research it a bit after the movie, it was kind of a scary similar transformation.
Channing Tatum looks so miserable in this interview he actually made me feel better as I was feeling miserable before I watched this lol. Thanks Channing.
Channing's very first comment (can't tell if sarcastic or stupid. I hope not, like the actor..)about films depiction of Americas role In the world in Especially given it's time frame with the USSR, I mean it was like a year before the Berlin Wall fell. But he sorta sounds kiiiinda dumb here, maybe too harsh, but cannot decipher subtle psychological cues and their relation to historical contexts. Strange really.
i hate pretentious interviewers like this. yeah we get it, you’re a film buff. no one cares. ask your questions and let the interviewees answer them… don’t answer for them
Carrell and Tatum surprised me with their performances, they knocked it out of the park, especially Carrell. Seeing him go from lovable Michael Scott to... this, was nothing short of stunning. Incredible work by all 3, Foxcatcher is one of my favorites for the year
Ruffalo played Dave very well. Dave was an outstanding human being and Ruffulo played his part in showing that. But all 3 did a really great job.
Tatum surprised me. All three leads nailed it
How can so many people not love Steve? It saddens me
im glad the wrestling community is being covered here on vice. the greatness these two brothers achieved is insane. Respect it. rip dave schultz
So excited for this. Let's go, Academy Award for Steve Carrel! And Channing proving that he can act in real dramas.
Channing Tatum is pretty modest and seems almost overwhelmed by the cast of people and crew he was around on this film. I guess this wasn't 21 jump street.
Gotta appreciate an actor who isn't pretentious and actually admits some of the the themes were hard to understand for him.
Iker C Yeah. I think he's really taken his career to the next level with this movie and he's discovering a whole new world of film and levels of quality that he hasn't experienced until now.
VictorFr0st I agree.
IXM360 Yeah, he really stepped up in this, no pun intended.
HillsideKlepht I think he seems irritated that he has to discuss his process w/ this tool-bag interviewer & he resented it when the guy who is supposed to be asking questions tries to force the "american Exceptionalism" theme on them
Mark Ruffalo doesn't really talk much until 15:05, but when he does, damn does he have some wonderful things to say
just like robin williams, steve carell gets his beard out for his serious roles :D
Aladdin?
did he have a beard in good will hunting?
tonyfalca
yes
hahaha and what about 'what dreams may come'?! did he have a beard in that movie?
He didn't have a beard in the movie... Not even stubble...
Carell is so amazing here, the mannerisms are so perfect. Notice how he ACTUALLY looks down his nose at the ppl he's talking to
While all three were awesome, I actually thought Tatum gave the best performance, which is unfortunate since he is the main character and he's being overlooked.
The woods are for living, Richard.
6:24 LOL, gotta admire Channing Tatum's honesty.
I have always wanted to see Steve play a serious character should be enteresting
The range on Carrell is ridiculous..The dude can do comedy and drama flawlessly
Steve Carell is fantastic in this film. The makeup work on him is great
Steve Carell you are an absolute legend.
Steve looks amazing in this
your to humble Steve
you were amazing!
Such a hard movie to watch. It was incredible but so fucking sad.
I went through so many emotions during this film. I even cried at one point. It was just so intense and I felt my skin growing hot with fury along with Mark. This movie is amazing.
Man dude the scene at hotel with mark during the Olympic trials has never been more surreal
All of them brought their A-games to this movie.
Steve Carrell deserves some type of award for his part
These 3 guys killed it in the movie, excellent work
channing tatums performance is being seriously over looked...
With good reason.
@@Bananaman11309 Lol you'd prob change your mind if you'd ever wrestled or did anything athletic in your life. It was extremely impressive. Agreed
HEis a mediocre actor regardless of this film
CHANNING looked sad In a way about this talk. Like he was very uncomfortable talking about this...
I think he's just intimidated. He's not in 21 Jump Street anymore.
But theta a whooole 'nother tapioca
freshrr2 Was this your attempt at humor?
Yeah but look at his thighs...
Elizabeth AChanning looked like he was nursing a mean hangover to me

Did anyone else think that Channing Tatum learned the term "carte blanche" from 22 Jump Street?
Brilliant performance by all. I have done a bit of research on dave by now and after re watching the film, i have2say Ruffalo's acting is as good as it gets. Ive not been much of a fan of his work..but he is truly a gifted actor and seemingly dedicated above and beyond

I never really see steve carell in serious movies, this have to be the first one i ever seen
You need to see him in "The Big Short".
this was actually a really great interview.
I love Channing's suggestion of playing chess with Bennett Miller at the end. Led to an apt (but really cheesy!) metaphor from the interviewer about the 3 of them being chess pieces in the movie

he's the creator of vice u dumb fuck.
Doesn't change the fact he was interrupting the interviewees u dumb fuck...
That movie was intense!
USA WRESTLING!
Thanks for this!
wow Steve Carell would be a brilliant politician after his response ending at 2:08
The first time I saw pictures from this film I thought it was a comedy. Up until I watched the trailer I still thought that, so much more serious than I ever imagined.
Carrel's du Pont rehearsing the lines in the helicopter was one of the most scary/psychotic scenes i've ever seen
Always thought Mark Ruffalo was talented, Steve blew my mind in this, and I have always hated Tatum, but he proved to me that he can act because of this film, I won’t say a negative thing about his acting again.
Thanks for your honesty and humility. That shows great integrity and courage.
Great interview. I'll be catching this movie for sure.
this guy and america....
My new love is Steve as an actor
fantastic interview
you put Steve Carell on your youtube channel and it's an instant hit.
They're all great actors, but Steve Carrell was just outstanding, he simply transformed into John Du pont. Kudos to the make-up team too
Great interview
Rufolo’s best performance was in “The Dentist” with Corbin Benson. It’s a must see!
Mark is good in both drama and action films.I cannot wait to see Steve and Channing
Great interview and a brilliant film!!
MICHAEL SCARN
AGENT Michael Scarn...
Which one is Samuel L Chang
5:00 "I stretched watching you dude" umm... O_o
Not literally speaking...
Haha you're fucking mad
Shakti d'Holbach Rekt.
Great video. Given how brilliant Mark was, I wish he had talked more!
This is a good cast for sure.
Channing in the foreground, the small guys in the background. The man looks ma-hoosive!
I got a hardcover copy of this book on the subject ASAP. Very interesting and I've read it a few times.
Dave Shultz American hero

like you can tell he went somewhere deep in himself
Weird how I'm watching the office (us) on Netflix on my xbox
I was just waiting for Steve Carell to say something really awkward
really good movie.all three of them nail their charecter.5 out of 5.defo recommended
Carrell should've won an Oscar
Tatum is in Magic Mike XXL mode.
So excited for the Brick Tamlin Oscar campaign
He keeps cutting off and interjecting between their thoughts. I get Vice is trying to use disarming, down to earth, "real dude" journalists but this guy is the worst!
Best movie of the year
Carrell is actually right in that the real life Du Pont was even creepier and more eccentric than his portrayal. Just check out his 1988 interview/documentary which can easily be found on RUclips. Du Pont came across even more creepy and awkward than Carrell did as him in the film.
12:17 Cate Blanchett
Should've had Mark Schultz with the cast.
"is that steve?" You on first name basis with these guys big man ?
Mark Ruffalo is very awkward and quiet. Damn, never got that vibe from him.
this interviewer is awful. talks over them, interrupts them, misunderstands what theyre saying... their responses seem so jaded as the questions just miss the mark
This interviewer keeps interrupting everyone. He seems bent on proving how smart and deep he is. In the way he keeps cutting the actors off and forcing his perspective on them. Lol his first question out the gate is a leading question trying to get them to take potshots at the US. Glad CT didn’t rise to the softball bait.
I think Tatum Channing has maneuvered between semi-serious roles in the past...which didn't necessarily challenge him....and after Miller's direction in Foxcatcher he was challenged as never before.....
I wanna see this so much
the film has loads missing, it is over dramatised and a lot of innacuracys. Watch the documentary on foxcatcher. its much better. Though, the movie is actually really good as a movie in its own right, it doesnt do justice to the truth
i think it does it justice. i understand that they didnt go into the details the way the documentary did.. but as a whole it was sufficient
its a good movie, but when you watch the real footage of John du pont, even his voice and mannerisms are not as sinister as they are in the movie. But hey, everyone has their own opinion
At first i thought this was a sketch about them making a serious movie.
15 minutes in and mark hasn't said anything. I just keep trying to decipher his thoughts from his facial expressions!
I'm 6 minutes in and he already spoke multiple times. Exaggerating much?
Stop interrupting your guests!! Holy shit, no one is watching this video to hear your answers, we want to hear from the people who were in the film! This is interviewing 101, and yet you fail repeatedly on this issue. Also, you're way too old to be throwing "like" around so gratuitously.
Interviewer is not great. The actors are honest seeming though.
The in tire thing to me was building up to the rich villain taking the unweathy wrestlers life. The music told me the in tire time it was coming.
all i hear is michael scott talking
bad interviewer, good interviewers ask a question then keep quiet & give people chance to talk, without interupting
+james crowley A characteristic most interviewers overlook. Wheres the respect?
Dear Channing Tatum insert foot into mouth. Sometimes silence is the smartest sentiment in a conversation
He's definitely maad humble though.
22:26 FUNNY STUFF.........!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought Steve Carrel was only a comedy actor
Lmao, this interviewer is so lame. He is trying too hard to get a message. Tf about America exceptionalism or whatever. Take the film at face value cause it's not a story it is real lol
but not for the interviewer to imagine it or to puff it out of dragon pipe. this guy is a fucking hipster and needs to stick his ass at starbucks.
yeah you can tell they dont care channing was the only one that made it obvious the guy was dumb, the other two actors are too professional and sympathized for the interviewer. Tatum was very agitated by the guys POV and questions, he said it straight up "i just played the role and didn't think too hard.
shut up
True that, the interviewer obviously has an agenda... I like how Channing tatum kind of brushed it aside though..
I get what you're saying, and I hate when people try to do that when there's really nothing there. But in this case he has a point. I don't know if I completely agree with his, but the movie shows how you can really damage your kids when you become so successful and rich. Mark Ruffalo stole the show in this film
You can tell they were taken back by him going it doesn't look like du pint because you know they think it does and the filmmakers intended it too
***** i was confused by that because i think it looks exactly like him, especially if you research it a bit after the movie, it was kind of a scary similar transformation.
Almost dropped the ball on trying to type-cast Steve Carell lol.....
amazing convo but this interviewer STINKS
"in America"
Ok vice.
Channing Tatum looks so miserable in this interview he actually made me feel better as I was feeling miserable before I watched this lol. Thanks Channing.
Carell is fantastic in this movie, a perfect portrayal of the cold psychopathic aristocratic 'elite'
This reporter is assuming and quite insulting to be quite frank.
i like him but i'll be suprised if steve can pull of this part, you'd think they should a better actor.
Seems like he is doing a pretty damn good job from the trailer.
Channing's very first comment (can't tell if sarcastic or stupid. I hope not, like the actor..)about films depiction of Americas role In the world in Especially given it's time frame with the USSR, I mean it was like a year before the Berlin Wall fell. Interview. One of the movies, you’re not sure - do the actors stay in character? AND, does Mark do have cauliflower ears? No
America is falling so hard. It's hard to watch interviews like this. #cringeworthy
Channing Tatum male PACKAGE looks SMALL in this wrestling singlet. The movie is ok. 7/10!
What a good time before mark ruffalo had his brain destroyed by trump
