    Eddie Haskell is one of the most hilarious television characters of all time. Nobody could have played him better than Ken did.

    @ottohesslein3230 6 лет назад +77

    Him being typecast is indicative of the amazing acting job he did in that role. Like Brando IS Don Corleone, Ken Osmond IS Eddie Haskel. He should be proud of that. Not many actors get to nail a role like that.

      Since the show started in 1957, it was really a reflection of the first half of the 1960s. Take it from someone who saw the show when it was new and lived through that era.

    Loved when he would call Wally 'Gertrude'. Like "Take it easy Gertrude" and then the classic Eddie laugh. One of the best characters in tv history. Obviously he got typecast because he played the part brilliantly.

    • @Mark-sj3xb
      @Mark-sj3xb 4 года назад +5

      Being typecast is a real compliment because you play a role so well and so believable that people see you as that character. In fact I just heard he passed away today and I texted a friend and said “Eddie Haskell died today”. I also belive it’s harder to avoid typecasting from a long running TV show than a movie. Sounds like producers never gave him much of an opportunity to prove otherwise. I mean, Tom Hanks IS Forrest Gump but he followed that up with so many iconic roles to the point he is perhaps our generation’s greatest actor.

    NO ONE on television played their part better than Ken Osmond. I was born in 1949 and "Leave It To Beaver" was one of my favorite shows. I've heard rumors that when the show was cancelled in 1963 there was talk of a 'Eddie Haskell' spin-off, but for some reason it didn't come to fruition. Too bad too because it probably would have been a big hit. Just about everyone in the country knew 'Eddie', and most of 'em couldn't get enough of his character.

      A lot of popular actors have had spinoffs that didn't work. Flo (kiss my grits), the Roper's, Fish( Barney Miller), and Joey (Friends) come to mind. Some characters are only successful in small doses. What if they had made shows like Lumpy Rutherford Gymnast, Barney Fife Sheriff of Mount Pilot, Edith Bunker Hotel clerk, Mr. Haney Salesman Of the Year, or Wilbur Post the Jockey LOL

    • @RockandrollNegro
      @RockandrollNegro Год назад

      An Eddie Haskell spinoff could've worked, and one was being prepared in 1963 when LITB ended. It would've followed Eddie having to join the Marine Corps after getting into trouble with the law. As they were preparing the pilot, they discovered that Andy Griffith was spinning off Gomer Pyle with almost the exact same premise, so they cancelled the Eddie Haskell series. It was kind of a shame, as everyone expected Ken Osmond to go far, but like everyone else on the show he ended up typecast for the rest of his life.

    Eddie Haskell was quite possibly the slimiest conniver to slither across the small screen until J.R. Ewing and Creed Bratton later joined his unholy trinity.

    @NCISFAN1954 Yes, it was called The New Leave It To Beaver and ran for three seasons. Ken was in it, of course, and his real-life son played his son on the show. Preceding that was a reunion movie called Still The Beaver. It was filmed not long after Hugh Beaumont (Ward) passed away.

    Jerry always said Eddie was the best actor because real life Ken Osmond was completely opposite of Eddie. Brilliant, and completely believable.

    It's neat to see Ken Osmond again, unfortunately, I had to see O'Reilly in the process.

    I would've liked to see Ken get into the Eddie persona for a minute. Just for kicks.

    Hollywood missed out, typecasting a fantastic actor. Other events, in every other circle, took advantage of his remarkable talent.

    I believe the reason the Eddie character was so successful is that he was believable. Every kid knew someone at least a bit like Eddie. He was a smoozing, wise-ass, duplicitous, selfish charmer - but a VERY funny one. I'm sure Eddie must have gone into sales!

      @@BonnieVent I'm reading Ken's autobiography. I am almost done with it. I am a slow reader. :) It is a great book and I highly recommend it. It really saddens me that he passed away while I am reading it. It really hits home for me. :(

    Big fan here. Played the wise guy perfectly and convincingly. At times, I'd feel sorry for him. He was the guy in the group who had nothing to contribute, so he'd do anything to get noticed.

    Looking for a cure for the blues? Look no further...even O'Reilly's smile reflex immediately surrendered to the Osmond/Haakell iconography! And that was a mighty sharp outfit Ken was wearing!

    He had to be a phenomenal actor to be able to play that role so well. What makes a good actor is when you can't tell their acting and he had it.

      ME🙋🏾‍♀️ Imagine someone getting pulled over by Officer Haskell for speeding,during the 1970s. He walks over towards the window and the person looks out the window. Saying HEY aren't you Eddie Haskell from Leave It To Beaver😂
