Very nice review and a nice little package but I gave up on drum monitors and bought a Turbosound Inspire IP300 powered pa speaker a couple of weeks ago for $399 and put it on a stand directly behind my drum throne and it sounds incredible. Even at low volumes it has deep lows , mids and crystal clear highs . At 600 watts , It can shake the house too with zero distortion. It also has a Bluetooth channel. Anyway , keep up the good work. I really like your vids .
I had at first a home theater system set on my kit when I first started out. But I need more silence and that is why I started figuring out how to record with the computer!! Good review Justin!!
If I were getting speakers for home use this is absolutely the type to get. I probably wouldn't mount them on the rack though. I'd put them at the other end of the room to make it seem like I was listening to myself playing in a nightclub!
Hey Justin, great video once again man! Would you recommend this over a single Simmons DA2012b or Roland PM-100? I really like the way this one lays out with the drums, but if it’s not entirely worth the money, would rather spend it on something better. I can’t seem to find the MS50DR really anywhere unless $255 or so used is a good deal on one? Thanks in advance!
Which one did you end up going with? I’m stuck deciding between the exact ones you were. I’m leaning towards the Yamaha because I’m getting the DTX6K3-X kit, but I don’t know much about Ekits so I’m not sure what route I should take with all this
I recently switched from a Simmons DA200 amp to a Roland PM200. The difference is unbelievable. The Roland has the power & frequency coverage that I need.
Douglas Lippi If you’re gigging with it like I do, run a dual female xlr to single make xlr (+ whatever length of xlr cable you need) to reach the front of house (PA) & you’ll be fine. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/YXF119--hosa-yxf-119-y-cable-dual-xlr3f-to-xlr3m-6-inch?mrkgcl=28&mrkgadid=3316426562&product_id=YXF119&campaigntype=shopping&campaign=aaShopping%2520-%2520SKU%2520-%2520Accessories&adgroup=Cables%2520-%2520Hosa%2520-%2520yxf119&placement=google&creative=303058207398&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqMaP0ZSs5QIVkobACh2a6w3GEAQYAyABEgI3LPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Really, you don't feel cheated in your sound? I have the PM200 and Simmons DA350. I feel like I have be cheated so dearly with both. The sound quality from Superior Drummer 3 is diminished so much, it's a ripoff. I've been finding out lately ear-buds are the way to go. Your ears don't ring and you can work with very low volumes. With an amp, you have to turn it up louder to get over the annoying thumping of rubber cymbals and mesh pads. Then if you want to play along with music through them with e-drums connected it's even more of a disappointment. At least that's what I've experienced, hope you have better luck, watch-out for that dinky Tweeter in the PM200 it blows easy.
@@BumpNrun69 Well yeah the right earbuds will be better, but there are times when playing live, there's no PA, and I have to make some sound for the audience.
Hey Justin 😊 Cool review! I like how they mount to most drum racks, that’s very handy. Positioning of true knobs was not very well thought out like you said. I don’t tend to use my DA200 speaker much at home anymore. My KZ ZS10 Pro IEM’s are awesome and is pretty much all I use now.
Justin, do you recall having any issues with the power cord? Mine seems like it's not fully seated into the subwoofer, and even at max volume, the system is very quiet (drowned out by stick and pedal noise).
Serious question: Is this different from a home theater system? Cause it looks like home theater system and is even labelled like one. Can I buy any home theater system and use it?
I tried these with my drum kit and they just didn't work. Not enough power. Then I tried them with my keyboard and they work great for playing at home. Apparently Yamaha used to market these speakers with one of it's higher end keyboards from several years ago. But, I still need an amp for my drums.
Trust me, not worth it, especially if you're using (paying for) quality sounds from vst software (like, Superior Drummer, Addictive Drums, etc..). The "quality" that you pay for is just not there with driving through an amp. The PM200 has a very weak Tweeter, I blew mine in about 1-1/2 weeks. Replaced with an aftermarket and it held-up better but still, the quality sound wasn't there - just amplified. Good Luck.
Bump N Run i see. i have read the same problems from other forums too. I was choosing between roland pm100 and a laney ah80. tested them both and went for the roland yesterday i hope mine will last long.
I have a question, so in my church we use an electric drum kit, the td11 and i want to hit the cymbal but i want the sound to just stop and not continue on. Like if i was to hold an actual cymbal and hit it. I dont know if you know what i mean but i hope you can help.
I went down that route but without the mixer. May have opted for this Yamaha set if it had been out at the time. I can recommend studio monitors for home use but ensure that wattage is no less than 30Watts.
I have md 50 dr with top line dtx yam.with the blk pads .b4 white re line. QUESTION i hav 2 mounted spks i wan add 2 mor so 2 face me, n 2 face my room wen i play wit other musicians. Is possible with splitter cables.4 goin into the 2 sets on moniter?
I live in Australia and new to drums. I really want an electric drum kit and I found a Yamaha dtx 452k for $490 bucks. Is it worth it? Also everything in Australia cost more then America
I wish I could. But you cant demo speakers on video. Because you'd just be hearing what the speaker sounded like, as interpreted by a microphone, sent through YOUR phone speaker. You'll never hear what it actually sounds like that way. You have to play them in person to know what they sound like for real.
i got the logitech z3000 and this thing blows the yamaha out. its more powerfull and has better clarity on the mids and highs. the bass shakes the room if you crank it too. over all, the logitech z3000 is a cheaper and better option if you are looking for the same set up as the yamaha on this video
I have never played an electric drum set but before i buy my first one i have a question if anyone can help me, I don’t have a computer and idk if i need one to even use the drum set. Can you use a electric drum set without a computer/pc?
The 50 is the minimum I would ever recommend using. Quite honestly, I think its sub-woofer is borderline too light to be effective. It's able to reproduce the sounds but lacks the depth. I can't imagine anything smaller even being really usable for anything.

Looks perfect for an apartment!! If I was a more respectful neighbor I would have something like this!
I love this for my digital piano
Been using my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX. Does good enough. I get ear infections so this has been the best alternative.
Maybe include the MSRP upfront to give us some frame of reference. At 4:02 we get the info. In case anyone missed that he says "around $300."
Good honest review, making comparisons and suggestions. What we come to expect and why we are subscribers :-)

a great review, Justin! I shared to the Yamaha DTX drums appreciation group facebook page :)
Thanks John :)

@@redeyedbuggers I'm buying that same kit, did you end up getting this?
When you play along to backing tracks / drumless songs through this kit, does the combined music+drums sound clean and sharp?

studio monitors are better for clarity imo - would be good to see more reviews around studio monitors setups and e-drums

Is it ONLY for drums or can i play backing song and play drums on it and it will sound good?
Justin - can a practice pad be triggered into a drum module? Would a drum-trigger work?
Yes
@@65Drums What type of trigger would that be for a pad like the ProLogix Percussion Black Out Practice Pad With Rim?

Yeah it'd work just fine for that
Can we set up drum speaker (amplifier) with NON ELECTRIC drum set?
