      Apparently in the 60’s she started using velcro rollers. And she always used Wella koleston on her hair. And Lambs placenta. Either from a pill or in a mask I’m not sure. This was what her hairdresser said xx he’s still alive today but very old.

    @LizVonVillas If you want more volume then after you wash your hair you use white vinegar to rinse your hair. Let it sit for a bit. I dilute it by half. Some may want to dilue it by thirds when they first begin. The vinegar rinse also helps the hair to hold the curl. It strips off the chemicals and sulfates and bad things shampoo leaves behind. You won't have to wash it as offen. It's what they used to get Shirley Temples curls. It helps keep the scalp healthy. It helps make your hair and be thicker as well.

      You can keep doing the same type of set as it grows out, and you might find you like a certain length better than others, but this kind of cut would have been better than most one-length kind of cuts at ANY length! Those crazy layers are what gives the cascading curl effect! 💖 Experiment with your roller directions too, that can really change it up! Glad you enjoyed 😊

    You are absolutely gorgeous, and you do a great job with your hair and makeup. I have been a stylist for a long time and was taught the art of magnetic roller sets. You should treat yourself to a visit to an old fashion shampoo and set with them. If you were my client I would try to convince you to talk the plunge and go all the way, yes that's right platinum. I think you deserve it. (Please don't do that at home!). I also love the shorter Marilyn like style on you.
    I am married to the most beautiful woman in the world that is constantly complimented on her hair, it has been many colors, many lengths and many styles. When it is time to dress it up, my tool of choice is crisp roller set. don't get me wrong I use modern tools I have a younger clientele following and on occasion they might even get the roller treatment for special styles.

    Thank you so much for posting this! I really would like to recreate this hair as well but I’m pretty anxious, usually I do wet sets but I’m scared of leaving them in too long. I also use the tie-up foam rollers, will those work okay as well? 😅

    • @LizVonVillas
      @LizVonVillas  3 года назад

      You're so welcome! If you're not sure that your hair will dry fully, definitely start with dry hair and dampen it as you go. Mine won't dry if I start with wet hair! Overnight (8 hrs) should be enough time if you start with dry hair and dampen. The tie up foam rollers should be fine, what's important is the size of the curl. Everyone's hair is different though, so it really depends on how well your hair holds a curl! If it holds curl well, you'll probably want to start with larger rollers for this particular style. OR I've heard that you can get your curls to relax by using some pomade and the hood dryer attachment. I keep meaning to give that a try! I will make a video about it when I do 😊 Don't be afraid! It just takes practice! 💖

    I wonder how long to dry on cool setting?

    • @LizVonVillas
      @LizVonVillas  3 года назад

      I think it depends on your hair type and length and density. I think 20 minutes at the very least but the longer, the better. You can check one roller and see if it’s dry before you take them all out 😊

    I watched your video and ordered rollers and satin haircloths and tried it for the first time yesterday. The result is great but now the question is how long does your hair stay like this? And how do you sleep with it without the foam rollers in so it sits well the next day? I would like to thank you for your video, thanks to you I can finally start my pin-up hair journey.

    • @LizVonVillas
      @LizVonVillas  3 года назад +1

      Yay! How exciting! Well, I filmed a video about maintaining your set but I need to edit it 😊 if I want to keep my curls going, I have to re-roll my hair at night. I brush it out and then depending on how curly it still is, I might very lightly mist it with my setting lotion. My hair is very stubborn and doesn’t like to hold a curl so I really have to work at it. But once you get used to rolling your hair, it goes quickly and I’ve been used to sleeping in rollers for a long time now so it’s not a problem for me. Something else you could do would be to use bobby pins instead of rollers, if they’re too annoying to sleep in. I’ve heard good things about sleeping on silk pillow cases, I will give that a shot eventually. They’re supposed to be better for your hair and probably will help to maintain the curl!

    How do you make the rollers stay? Mine tend to unroll in the night if I don’t pin them, even with a hair scarf.

    • @LizVonVillas
      @LizVonVillas  3 года назад

      Hmm. Maybe you’re an energetic sleeper 😂 mine pretty much stay put on their own. Have you tried wrapping the scarf a little tighter? Are you really covering your head with rollers? If they’re too sparse, you don’t get the “roller pillow” effect which can cause them to pull apart with gravity/movement. Also, are you using a silk scarf? That would help your head slide on the pillow a bit better as you move.

    Hello! How do you prepare the lotion mix with water for the spray?

    • @LizVonVillas
      @LizVonVillas  Год назад +1

      Hi! That depends on the health of your hair. The healthier your hair, the less setting lotion you need (typically). If you have color-treated or bleached hair, you might want a 50/50 ratio, if your hair isn't processed, you might want 1 parts lotion to 3 or 4 parts water. It might take a little trial and error!

      I think it would depend on your hair type, I’d imagine it would be quite difficult but you might want to give it a shot! You never know! 💖

    When you do the back, do you roll up or down?

      Typically I roll down, apart from the last row (the one closest to my neck). That one, I roll up!

    I have the foam rollers from Amazon. I’m getting really frustrated because the bars keep popping off while I roll. Any suggestions?

      You can put the bar on after you roll it up, I know some people do that all the time!

    I love it even more a little longer and all the same length! Would you say this is the haircut she has on the cover of LIFE magazine 1953? 🤷🏼‍♀️ www.life.com/people/marilyn-monroe-at-home-in-hollywood-color-portraits-1953/
    That's the cut I'm going for but I just can't tell if it's a different cut or maybe it's the same and grown a little longer. Luckily my hairdresser is a close friend so I can just show her your video, she's going to think I've gone mad 🤣. Thanks for your help!

      😂 omg she's going to cringe! Nahhh... I had one comment from a professional on my other video saying I wasn't too far off of any of it so hopefully it won't be too offensive! 😂 As far as I can tell, it's similar but it's hard knowing exactly what kind of cut she had because A, I'm not a pro, B, we're not able to see her hair when it was straight, and C, we weren't there when it was cut! It does look to me like the hair closer to her shoulders might have been a little bit shorter but again, it's impossible for me to tell. It's one of those things that you've just gotta experiment with! 😁💖

      @@LizVonVillas Haha! Yeah true, it's possible it might have been like your hair cut and then it's grown a bit and then she's just had the length cut. If only we could go back in time eh! I'll experiment with it and see how I go! Thanks for your help 😊

      @@LizVonVillasokay! So can I do this wet? Like shower, brush, then spray the setting lotion and curl and then use the blow dryer thing when done until it’s dry? Or should I wait for my hair to be mostly dry after a shower?

    You're a beautiful lady but the thumbnail looks nothing like the blondes hairstyle. Her hair is combed back off the face and yours is curling in on the face. It's not just the color that's wrong for the look, even though dark hair doesn't show strands the way light hair does when it's short, but the architecture of the style is completely different. Accounting for texture and styling products, the angle is correct but this looks like every average woman's hair. If you want Marilyn's hair you have to account for where the curls are facing

    • @LizVonVillas
      @LizVonVillas  Год назад +2

      If I wanted Marilyn’s hair, I would bleach mine into submission (as I mentioned in the video). I do not want Marilyn’s hair, I want healthy hair. Occasionally I like to style it in an inspired look but that’s as close as I’m going to get.
      What’s your story? Are you a stylist?
