    Hey Mabel! I just found out I will be travelling to Dubai during Ramadan as well and I am a 17 year old girl,look much older though, I was wondering if I could still wear shorts and off shoulders in tourist places outside the hotels. I just want to get some clarity as I don’t want to buy whole new sets of clothes if I don’t have to,would be great if you could clarify again!

    Questions: So if you go on a hike or something in the desert like Hatta can you still not eat or drink?

    • @mabelgoulden872
      @mabelgoulden872  4 месяца назад +1

      Technically not. I remember when I first moved here I went on a bike ride in the desert, I made sure to only take a few sips in the taxi before hand. But, if no one’s around, I don’t think you’re disrespecting anyone :)

    Hi Mabel, I couldn’t seem to respond directly to your message. I will be traveling with my Kids and I just feel that it would be inconvenient for us during. Just imagine coming from the various places that they visit, then afterwards they want to grab a bite at McDonald’s but because it’s Ramadhan they won’t be able to do that, they will just become so cranky. I would just rather not travel during Ramadan. I am from Tanzania and the same applies when you go to Zanzibar during Ramadan so many people from the main country do not travel to Zanzibar during Ramadan, because of the restrictions. Remain blessed and have a great day.

      I don’t think any Muslim (including myself) would mind if your kids were eating something. Children, at least until they are much older, don’t have to fast. Also generally - most Muslims don’t mind if you (adults) eat in public too. However it’s the UAE, so a little bit of common sense is needed.

    It is the Holiest month for the Muslim.
    Ramadan teaches us, how poor people live their life without any food and drinks and still work everyday.
    And during this month Rich people give charity to the poor.

    Canadian Muslim here. Just wanted to say this was a great video, and you're pretty much spot on! I appreciate your open-mindedness and your willingness to share your thoughts with people who may not be familiar with the holy month as it is practiced in a place like Dubai.
    Generally speaking, if you're going to a restaurant or designated area that serves drinks/food, I'd say the chances of encountering someone who is fasting (and has low tolerance to people who aren't) is fairly slim. And even if you do encounter someone who is fasting, not everyone will take offence to it because they know where they are and what to expect. Common sense comes into play - and being as respectful as you can be goes a long way (as you perfectly stated). I doubt a restaurant would be open during Ramadan if you weren't allowed to go there. I don't see that as being an issue the way the comments make it seem. I'd also like to think that most folks who practice the religion would be happy to answer questions or correct any misinformation if a person is ever unsure of something.
    As someone who used to fast (and doesn't at the moment due to health reasons), I personally never minded when people ate or drank in front of me. That's just me, though. And if someone knew I was fasting, they'd at least ask whether it would be bothersome, or they would hold off until I left. If you're not deliberately being obnoxious or disrespectful, you're fine.

    I booked Dubai this wekend for 10 nights in March and have just found out its during Ramadan. I think im going to have to cancel as its going to be hard work.
    I mean, take Dubai marina or by the Burj - I was so looking forward to sitting outside in one of the restaurants with an orange juice, taking in the sun in shorts and t shirt, watching the world go by and taking in the atmosphere. It seems I will only be able to eat or drink if I'm hidden away somewhere.
    I am very respectful of all cultures, but probably feel its for the best I go at another time. If it was a cold country it wouldn't be so bad, but not being able to sit and have a soft drink in the sun at the tourist hotspots, is probably not going to be fun.....it is a holiday afterall.

      The tourist areas during Ramadan are business as usual. Dubai mall food hall or the Time out area are all fully open - shops are open, honestly as Mabel says it’s a great time to visit. Restaurants and food courts are less busy which is great. My family were here last year during Ramadan and they said it was the best time they’ve ever been. Just be respectful.

      Come during Ramadan. I don’t want to say anything offensive but Dubai isn’t as strict as other Muslim countries when it comes to fasting and practicing everything that comes with it.
