In this video I share three skating drills that can be done with roller blades that will help hockey players with their skating. These drills are chosen to be beneficial when the players lace up the skates after the summer.
Rollerblading is similar to skating, however there are some differences. I picked these rollerblading drills to be the most like the movements you will do with skates on.

my right ear enjoyed this
yea
My left ear is feeling very left out
Your videos are very helpful with me trying to be a better player. I am 24, and I have never played youth hockey growing up or have had formal training with skating or stick handling , and my experience is only limited to shooting and skating in my old driveway when I was 9 or 10, and playing pick up with players better than me. I enjoy taking notes and am working on a practice regime to make myself a better player so I can eventually feel comfortable playing Rec Hockey. Thank you for the vids!
Very helpful! I'll try this tomorrow, specially the bwds to fwd drill. I don't play hockey (maybe I'll try it someday), though it is very helpful for skating just as it is. Thanks, btw!
The same muscles are used, but the technique can be different which could effect your skating when you are on the ice. For beginner and novice players it isn't anything to worry about as anything will be better than doing nothing.
For better skaters the odd rollerblade session certainly won't hurt, and if you know what you are doing you can use it to develop further. Check the link in the video description for more about my view on rollerblading, I go into more detail
This is the video I've been looking for! ! ! This is exactly what I needed. Ice time isn't always easy but as long as it isn't raining, this is great! Thanks man.
Yo bro, 8 years later you still recommend it ?
You have made some awesome and very informative hockey videos. You have really helped my son develop into the total hockey player, both on and off the ice. Thank you for making these videos!!!
Yup, two broken hockey sticks and some duct tape and I've got a custom composite camera stick holder thingy.
To think.. you made a selfie stick before there was a selfie 🤳 stick.. should have patented that coach Jeremy..
Thanks!
So helpful! Thanks!
Thanks buddy love your work
thanks, very helpful
Good video. Thanks!
Thanks once again for a great and helpful video. Be careful on the road !
great video!
Thanks - I use an Azden lav mic 325UPR it was $600 used. I initially used a cheaper model but wanted to have better sound and the ability to mic two people at once so I upgraded it. I want to have guests and other trainers on my channel so it's not always just me, there are lots of great trainers and coaches out there.
Great video dude!
thank's really needed this vid lol, i have trials soon and my rink has closed for maintenance
Cool :) Thanks!
thanks for posting this it is very helpful to me. and ive been wondering whats your favorite hockey team
thanks Jeremy, another great video. a video on how to use boards as a forward would be nice. :)
After watching the video and thinking about it I knew it was either flexibility, how deep my knee bend is (which I know is suspect as an adult beginner inline player) or both. I've been skating and doing leg exercises for about 5 months now so I'm squatting down on my stance a lot better lately. I plan to practice this later today with a deeper bend and see. Thanks!
Hey Jeremy, great video! What recommendations do you have for picking rollerblades for off ice training? Anything to be aware of or not get when looking for a pair? What price range should we look in compared to our skates?
this is a good idea Coach Jeremy because I am going to start ice hockey this fall because first need to inline skate first but it will help me do better inline and ice skate and it will help everyone to do better to inline skate first than to ice skate next and then next to do ice hockey
Thanks I’m a squirt and this helped!
Can u do a video on stopping with inline hockey skates? Thanks!
You guys are sick, probably the only youtube channel that I'm interested in now.
There are a lot of good stretches for the leg, build up a routine and stretch all the muscles. For this move put some extra focus on adductor stretches and hip joint mobility exercises. There are some good dynamic streches that will help.
Look with Kevin Neeld, Hockey Online Training, and Gary Robers / Nike Hockey and you should find some good ones.
Great camera work!
Good to have you back Jeremy. Congratulations on the wedding too!
Can you make roller blading tutorials please I'm having a hard time learning. Thanks.
You and chris from hockeytutorial have the best skating and hockey videos online
I'm new to playing hockey and I really don't like practicing skating on my inlines because it takes a while for me to get used to switching from ice to inline or vise-versa. But I do where my inline blades when I go out and practice shooting and passing off-ice. I think it's a better muscle memory for me to be elevated instead of on flat feet. Idk but works for me. Less fanning on pucks.
I get all of my hockey tips from you
Creative thinking :)
It seems like your settings are off on your audio recorder probably because it has two XLR inputs and your recording from both of them despite only having one mic running into. You can fix this by by duplicating your audio track in whatever editor you use and then using an audio effect (its called something different in every editor) to play back the same audio on the opposite channel given you the same output on both the right and left channels.
Helpful video as always keep up the good work
im a inline player and been skating long and i tried ice skating and i cant which i dont understand cause they are simular but thanks to these drills iand some of your other skating videos i might be able to pick up ice skating
i know this isn't the proper video to leave this comment on, but i don't navigate youtube that well, I love your videos they have been a big help and i was wondering if you could do a video on how to do a top shelf backhand while coming in on a goalie just like Radim Vrbata of the coyotes. he's the player i try to emulate and i just can't seem to get his shot down on my own. I know it's technically simple but he makes it look silky-smooth and effortless. thanks again for the videos!
Hey Jeremy, Do you think you could do a video on how to shoot low and hard?
Jeremy I think going heel to heel may be what's holding me from doing a Mohawk going full speed. Any good stretches you can recommend to improve flexibility that way is a short time?
hey jeremy!do u feel turning right is a difficult thing to learn?no matter tight turn, crossover, turning left is easy, and very awkward turning right?
Will you make the review for the green biscut pro
Hey Jeremy have you got any tips for tip-ins in front of the net?
what does the pump jump serve as a purpose ... thinking interma of what it helps to help categorize my training thx
This is might be off topic but what work outs can i do for my hamstrings, like you talked about in one of your articles
Good can u do a video about shooting???
Wich skates do you recomend for the road for an average player/guy?
.
Hey Jeremy we're thinking if getting my little bro some roller hockey blades for his B-day, but my mom is concerned about him stopping without breaks, got any tips/techniques?
I use the same missions
Same here. I am a great skater but am not that flexible. How long did it take you to do that turn?
What kind of camera are you using to film, that is interesting? Did you mount your camera to a hockey stick?
great tips eh
what type of blades are those looking for a pair to help me learn
The pump and jump instantly reminded me of the scene from Reno 911.
guys!!!!! im struggling with the width of the roller hockey, did any one wear bauer ee width ice hockey, and what brand with what width u get in roller hockey?
I have the same blades
What would you recommend to do on a high speed break away feet from the net with a defender right behind. Would I crash all the way through are there stopping or agility techniques that can prevent injury or make a better play.. For a rollar hockey pick up game and average or less skating ability.
If you run over the Goalie you'll get pounded for it. Just shoot the puck before you hit the Goalie.
Can you make a video on how to steal the puck that's my problem
How r u skating backwards. I need help on that
is flexability required for the fwd to bwd ? that's like ballet feet!
I heard from a few trainers that roller blading doesn't work the same muscles as when ice skating... is this true or not? Will this screw up my regular on ice skating?
are you on your out side edge when you skate backward to forward
I'm no Jeremy, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents to try and help you out. It becomes easier to position your feet for a mohawk as you get a deeper bend in the knee (you can even test this without skates on. try doing a mohawk straight legged and then try in a full squat). I'm guessing that this may be what's holding you back. Try focusing on the bend rather than a stretch and see if that helps.
Hey what skates are those man??
what skate are those?
I used to play hockey 20 years ago I quitted hockey because of a bad knee injury. I am 48 y/o now and I was thinking/hoping of playing again. Do you ppl think it’s a good idea?
what kind of mission are those
you have the same roolerskates
I love how he uses a hockey stick to hold the camera instead of buying a camera stick or whatever it's called.
what kind of missions were those
Do you guys live in Canada or USA?
Keep your stick down, look to where you want the puck to go. A quick release is essential for easy rebounds or tap ins.
Those are the "Mission AC Informer" roller blades (i have the exact same ones)
Same lol
Hey I'm 15 and I started playing hockey around 14 but I turned 15 a week or two later, how can I get good faster. I play ice and inline hockey. Inline I can skate well, but in ice my skating feels ok but every time I step on the ice it feels kind of weird is there any drills or products to help my skating feel more fluent or relaxed
just go to public skates...
72mm wheels?
My knees are not flexible enough to face my feet in opposite directions to turn backwards... I have to hop to do it
what posetion are u im d
Make sure y'all use outdoor wheels on your inline skates. The indoor wheels that come with most inline hockey skates will be destroyed in an hour in the street
I’ve been playing ice hockey for almost 20 years what can I expect trying rollerblades for the first few time (minus the falling)
Danny Caper Not being able to stop
lol ya...stopping is different. I have no idea how to do it on roller blades.
@@TheLesExit you can hockey stop in blades pretty easily
why are you not in ohl or something?!?!
lucky little bro! if he had skating stills it might not be a question. if not he should learn skating first and than learn how to stop with one foot which T-stop or snow plow stop, either way he should find a place with no car and always wear pads for safety.
they look like inhauler ac7 but white
That's what I was thinking
Mission AC Informer
Bro that first one is way harder than it looks
wow, so it was you... that invented the selfie stick.
Y’all ever notice this guy really looks like Jeremy from How to Hockey.com? Is it just me?
Is it just me or he's already 2 miles from where he started?
My right ear really loved this.. but great video
Rollerblading ruins your ice stride.
+Rowan Savidant Not really, its great for off-season training, and great to improve balance. It just takes some time to adapt back to ice skating after.
Ya I think Mcdavid is just fine he used roller blades to practice skating
Rowan Savidant so true, I went ice skating on hockey skates then rode on my rollerblades and it is WAY different
You are correct... but I think that if you practice correctly you can use rollerblades quite a bit for off-ice training. You just have to have an open mind.
Regardless if you play roller hockey or ice hockey one thing is true. Bad habits will get you hurt.
