  • Summers for me in Toronto mean a lot of time spent on the outdoor rink 2 minutes away from my home. I call it my home away from home - otherwise known as Withrow Park. Rolling like a boss on my Marsblades.
    I'm out there almost every morning, trying desperately to get better hands, and to get a tan. I enjoy my time so much out here. I'm figuring out things about my stickhandling every single day, and I'm 100% living in the moment, happily clacking away at the biscuit. I hope you guys love your time training. Even though we challenge our abilities, the challenge should be exciting and fun. Even when we are failing a lot (which we should be).
    Use these low cost drills on a driveway or any open space. You don't need a rink. Go find your training area, and make it your own.

    anyone think he should ask Patrick Kane or Datsyuk to make a video with him in their off season and see who's better? Stick tricks, then same drills, then individual dangles followed by a 10 round shootout. Kanes always been my boy but that would be truly fun to watch. Pavs, what do you think? could you try to make that happen? if you message Datsyuk on Facebook about it, he will respond and all Kane has to do is look at your moves and he'll be motivated to do it. lol

      Jimmy Williams if only it was that easy to contact NHL players lmao

    • @jimmywilliams8045
      @jimmywilliams8045 7 лет назад

      Datsy actually messages and talks to fans off his Facebook page consistently so Pavel could get a hold of him and mabey get a response, but he does live in Russia now and dangles the entire KHL for fun lol. I guess he dosent need to prove himself to anyone. Just wishful thinking on my part.

    • @PavelBarber
      @PavelBarber  7 лет назад +3

      That's just his PR (Public Relations) manager who runs his socials. He doesn't do that personally. No NHLer will have interest getting on the ice with me in a video like that I don't think. It has to benefit them in some way and I'm sure they get messages like that all the time.

    Hey pavel, I see that when you are crossing over your inside foot lifts off very briefly is that something that should happen ? I noticed I do the same thing I guess out of instinct. It seems like it would be wasted movement and take a bit longer. If you could reply I would greatly appreciate it!

    Hey Pavel, is there a reason why you don't use hockey gloves and you use the smaller gloves? Is there an benefits?

    • @PavelBarber
      @PavelBarber  7 лет назад +2

      I just hate wearing them out there. Very warm, and gloves annoy me. I usually don't use hockey gloves when off ice training...usually just bike gloves or bare hands. Just personal preference. I don't think it affects skills at all.

  • @karlbork6039

    Very impressive but it reminds me of guys in my beer league who are very good stickhandlers but glide when they get the puck.

    • @PavelBarber
      @PavelBarber  5 лет назад +4

      That's a generalization. The way you phrased that makes it sound like doing this training is useless. It's obvious if you don't know how to skate with a puck you'll be useless out there, but gliding and making moves laterally has a lot of importance too.

      bloxhead141809 i would like to know that too!
      There is a thing, I think it's called the hockey wrap around (not for sure if that's the name or not), that u put around the blade and tape it on that u could use. I don't use it but it might be of some help.

    • @hskbates

      bloxhead141809 invest in the hockey stick wrap around

    • @mikeyseney6570
      @mikeyseney6570 7 лет назад

      bloxhead141809 I have used 4 street hockey sticks over the summer, and out of them all, the KOHO street revolution stick was the best I used. It was whippy and was longer than most other street sticks (ccm, Sherwood). That's my recommendation for a street stick

    • @hskbates
      @hskbates 7 лет назад

      Michaels Covers the koho revolution is a good cheap alternative for outside use however being 6 foot and then having skates on.... the stick is way to short. Get the wrap around, attaches to any blades and protects from wearing blade down

    • @PavelBarber
      @PavelBarber  7 лет назад +3

      I use the Bauer ABS blade found at Sportchek. Replacement blade - the best out there today

    Shouldnt people practice stick handling with speed instead of in a glide. I feel like people will get lit up if they get used to stick handling without their legs going.

      +charizardcc the video is made to give you a good base drill for stick handling, it's easier to handle when your not moving so fast you as you get better you can gain speed bit by bit. this video as all to give people a good base to build off of.

    All that stick handling doesn't do anything when watch his body.

    • @PavelBarber
      @PavelBarber  6 лет назад +3

      That is such a useless comment lol.
      Defending is not so easy as saying "just take his body" lol. It's very difficult to read good stickhandlers because they're deceptive.
      Of course watching the body is a good rule and defenders should aim to do that to stop them.
      But to say that "all that stickhandling doesn't do anything when you watch his body" is simply not true. Defending is not that easy, and stickhandling does mess up defenders ....countless examples from the NHL.
