After preforming this song in front of my whole high school, I would just like to say how grateful I am to have Metallica in my life. Thank you so much Kirk and James for inspiring me to do this. 🙏🎸
Of the many versions of the Star-Spangled Banner in this style that I've heard, Metallica's is the best. So many others are just a bits and pieces of the real thing with a bunch of random stuff sandwiched in. This is the real thing played in a unique style.
I assume you're talking about Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock recording where he used his guitar to mimic the sounds of artillery fire and fighter planes and exploding ordnance and taps. That was never meant to be nice - it was a carefully planned and expertly performed protest of the Vietnam war, as well as a brutal reminder of the lives that were needlessly spent fighting it. It's supposed to be hard to listen to.
That was awesome! I'm an Army vet, and Metallica's songs were a mainstay for me during my time in service, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and ever since. I've always appreciated your patriotism and support of our U.S. military. o7 And Kirk, dammit, get a red or blue guitar next time.
Incredible use of harmony and note combinations. The front end is perfect by Kirk - classic and timeless. The stuff James adds is expert level guitar play.
It was very well executed. Dont get me wrong I love Metallica to death. But harmonizing a melody like that isnt rocket science. Not saying that I could do it better because i certainly could not :) But it doesnt require you to be the next Mozart to be able to do that.
@@mattjns They always know what fits yeah. And that is definitely the hardest part of harmonizing. Theres a bunch of intervals that kinda sorta work in the context of a certain melody. But only a few that REALLY make it something. That is true. But thats sort of down to trial and error.

Jimi Hendrix set the stage and still reigns supreme with his bold step performing our anthem. God Bless Kirk and James for showing our anthem is one thing nobody shall take a knee to. I met James, Jason, and Kirk once at Lalapalooza in TN. A friend of my Mother and Father, Dave Streetman introduced me to them. I was fresh out of high school, I had waited my whole teenage life to meet them and I couldn't say a word...totally starstruck. Kirk was my hero at the time and I couldn't mutter a word to him.
