    Shelton employs the baffling technique of celebrating too many small battles en route to losing the wars.

      Immaturity

    • @FamilyYoutubeTV-x6d
      @FamilyYoutubeTV-x6d Месяц назад +2

      @kevinstarski1598 I would not say immaturity. I would say it's cultural (in the personal sense, not the "black player" sense). A lot of us Latinos (some of us, in the personal sense, not in the general sense) also celebrate a lot of small battles and then lose at crucial moments. That's something we have to learn to do better. You could not really say that this is a "black thing" because we can see how strong many black athletes have been historically, even at the end of the line. On the other hand, we Latinos seem to be right behind the podium or first place many times. We could use all that extra energy to promote focus and consistency in crucial moments instead of celebrating too much too soon. Just my humble thoughts, I hope they do not bother anyone.

    • @FamilyYoutubeTV-x6d
      @FamilyYoutubeTV-x6d Месяц назад +1

      @kevinstarski1598 It's not races, it's just ethnic backgrounds coupled with cultural backgrounds. No, Shelton is not Latino, but he "suffers" from something a lot of Latinos suffer from, they get too excited too fast and get knocked out of tournaments early or lose in the finals (e.g. Colombians). That was my point. You are right, we should not judge based on "generalizing" statements, which is why I argued for "personal sense". However, given the observation that Colombians fail to live up to expectations in most tournaments, even though they have the talent to do better, and the observation that they celebrate too much, too often, and too early, my comment stands. I am offering some rare insights from a different background, which precisely implies that one cannot make generalizing statements, but these observations can still be useful in trying to derive or abstract what the problems are here, and the problems are: some athletes celebrate too much too often, instead of using that energy for further concentration and consistency, and this is especially crucial in long game sports like tennis, where concentration and consistency are more important than being cheerful or energetic for single points (which is something that Shelton and Camila Osorio suffer from, even though they have talent to be able to compete with the top 10 players and win actual ATP and WTA tournaments, for example).
      P.S. For example, look at how pumped 100 m sprinters are in the Olympics, for obvious reasons. The race is over in 10 seconds, so focus and consistency are less of a problem as in longer games or matches or competitions, like tennis.

      Yeah, I argue players like that waste a lot of energy and focus on screaming and grunting. Energy which could be placed into furthering their focus, concentration, and consistency. Although not my favorite players of the Tour, I do like Shelton and Camila Osorio on the women's side, but they both have this problem of perhaps celebrating a little bit "excessively" or "too early". I think it could also be a cultural thing, but maybe something they can learn to help tame or control better, given tennis is more of a "marathon" than a "sprint".

      I think all of this criticism towards Shelton is undeserved. Personally I like seeing a player pumping himself out, the crowd enjoys it and it spices the game up. It's also funny if he loses after celebrating, but I don't think that's worth criticizing, it's entertainment value, and he still puts in a lot of effort in his games (unlike some other ''entertainer'' type players). I get the people saying that he can improve his attitude but that is definitely attainable and I'm sure he'll refine his mental game as his career progresses.

      @FamilyYoutubeTV-x6d Месяц назад +4

      @@nickathearn4488 Yes, it's a bit annoying, but it's true that Shelton spends too much energy being unnecessarily loud during tennis matches, energy that could be used to improve his focus, consistency, and quality of play. I understand that sprinters are eccentric and pumped up before a 100m sprint race that is over in 10 seconds, but during a tennis match you should focus on celebrating key points (e.g. see Djokovic today vs. Alcaraz as an example), not all points. I would like to see if historically there has been a Grand Slam champion who screams as often as Shelton does and during irrelevant points of the match as he does. Camila Osorio does the same. They are both among my favorite tennis players, but they need to change their behavior and focus on consistency and focus (yes, redundant, but focus on more focus is what you need in tennis, not focus on screaming and celebrating after every point). You do not see soccer players celebrating very often during a 90 minute match. At most, it's for: goals, a blocked penalty, a phenomenal goalie save, and that's it. I understand that tennis is a solo sport and you have to find inner strength, but screaming and being "loud" is not the only way to find inner strength.

      @@paulrubinsteinvideo Yes I agree. I’m a complete novice when it comes to playing but I think his tennis IQ and anticipation lets him down when it comes to return of serve and deciding when to come to the net. I think he relies too much on his l athleticism which I understand why as it got him to where he is now, but at the same time I think it is holding him back from developing further as a player.
      Alcaraz used to suffer with this (and still does from time to time which is expected as he is still young despite his amazing achievements) but has made great improvements at playing more smarter and efficient tennis.

    2 things:
    1) I normally like Tiafoe, but it was kind of painful seeing how salty he was losing to Korda, despite Korda thoroughly outplaying him with elegance and class, all while being booed aggressively the entire match. Understandable to be disappointed about the L as the hometown hero, but to be so bitter and exhibit no grace whatsoever in the L is not what I expect from Tiafoe, one of the better guys on tour. Korda was on fire though, probably tired of being the 2nd-best athlete in the family -- Nelly is all the smoke :) Look forward to Korda finding form -- been a humbling few years since he declared himself a contender for Wimbledon. The style and potential has always been there; time to start delivering.
    2) Shelton has been, is, and always will be a first-order clown. The death stares, frat-boy yells, extremely cringe "Vamos!" -- the dude just gets worse and worse. Top-3 talent on tour, bottom-3 likeability factor. Novak knew it instantly, as he's met his fair share of hotshots and dismissed them accordingly. Was once sure Shelton'd reach the top-5, but with this kind of immaturity, I doubt he'll even break top-10. Arrogance is anathema to greatness. Also -- how about Italy right now?! Sinner world #1, Musetti claiming bronze in an epic over FAA, Cobolli playing incredibly well, Darderi at #30 in the rankings, Berrettini making a strong comeback, and Errani and Paolini (WTA #5 herself) claiming the doubles gold over Mirra and friends.
