Great review! I have a 2016 M2 Demo package fully loaded. M performance exhaust, catless down pipe, JB4 tune, VSRF charge pipe and Berger cold intake. I have logged 0-60 in 3.3 and feel thats very good for a few mods. Pure stage 2 turbo is only $2500 for another 100 hp putting it around 600 give or take a few hp. the n55b alos sounds better than the S55. The Comp OEM muffler hangs low and is horrible.
I just picked up a 2017 OG DCT M2 in Alpine white. It was an undamaged, one owner, full BMW service history from new and completely bone stock. $18,500 and not a single thing wrong with it. I am still pinching myself that I managed to get THIS much M at THAT price...
Crank hub affects the M2, M3, and the M4’s s55 engine. It’s also a topic that is blown out of proportion a tonn, don’t let that stop you from getting an M4. I just got one going on two months 😉
Correct, it affects the s55 engine only. If you plan on tuning your car, adding modifications to the engine, etc..you should 100% fix your crank hub. Why even take that risk? It’s just like the rod bearings in the s65..sure..you can gamble, and maybe you’ll be fine. But I’d hate to call the bluff and lose an engine because you thought it was blown out of proportion. I know enough s55 guys to also know this is a very real problem.
I’ll say my piece about the dct. I personally don’t think the dct detracts that much from the manual version. From driving both, I think the dct is almost as engaging without a lot of the effort needed from the manual. Why? The dct does not function like a torque converter automatic. It actually has a lot of the same characteristics you would typically find in a manual which I think is actually a turn off to a lot of less enthusiast minded people (see the change in the g-series). The dct in the m2 is very theatrical which I love and I wouldn’t have opted for an auto if it it were a torque converter. When going fast, the dct gives a very nice slam on your back when you upshift which I think adds a lot of character and theater. the downshifts are lightning quick and perfectly matched and that n55 sounds so nice. If you live in a very hilly city like me, the manual might be more trouble than it is worth. Of course, this could come off as a lot of cope lmao. TLDR, just drive both

thanks for your comment. I am tryin to decide between the 2. I think I prefer the M2 Comp simply because it is newer but am seeing a lot of people really praising the N55 M2. A friend of mine who is the service manager at a local car dealership (they sell mainly German cars) said that though they do not get many M2s to work on, the N55 is a pretty robust engine with little problems which is a draw for me. I do not want to have my car in the shop often.
So you like the M2? Its a beautiful car with some old school and new school technology together. My M4 is very competent but I fell like an operator a bit isolated from the machine.
Here in Germany the cheapest M2 is 39900€ (~47000$). The cheapest M2 Competition (with M Seats) costs 50000€ (~59000$). Would you still buy the M2 or save up for the M2 competition?
what did you do.. i would go for the m2 because of the sound.. its pure M feeling and i dont care if im at 100 around 5 oder 4.9 seconds or whatever those m2s need... also the headlights of the m2 are more perfectly.. and ofcourse them seats and digital display and lcd lights is maybe nicer but still the OG and LCI is one of the last king streetcars.
I just got a '21 model year M2 Comp. It's really pretty great. You know how it seems like there's always something -- cars, guitars, watches, whatever. But in this case there's not really anything, no letdowns. I just love the car, period, and that includes its usability as just my transportation. Northeast Winters will be another story, we'll see how that goes. And I'm sure you're right, i.e. that I'd have loved a non-Comp version just fine. Haven't even had the break-in service, so I don't even know what it can do, but I'm real good with it. I also agree that three pedals is the only way to fly.
Well, no problems, but this past winter was deep covid, so I was able to keep it in the garage for weeks on end. I'd have to say the question remains unanswered, still haven't had it out in any real ice and snow.
@@dobrindonev9546 I know this comment was a year ago, but here's my take. Also a 21 m2 comp owner. First test drive for me the exhaust was the biggest let down, but I decided to buy it anyway. 2 months into ownership so far, no regrets! I've put on a full AA equal length non-res catback exhaust so the exhaust sound is FIXED. Driving and steering feel so damn good. Lots of power in a small car, pulls like a freight train. If you haven't gotten it already, DO IT!!
@@andycjin4955 Man, I'm grateful for your response! Thank you for the exhaust tips, hearing it from an owner makes more sense now! I'm currently going for test drives and things look positive! Cheers mate!
When I was looking to snag a new car after my S4 got totaled, I looked at M2’s and M4’s and ended up going with the M4. The M2 felt fun but the power was down for me, and the DCT with the S55 is insane...the N55 just sounds better lol
Now in 2023, you will NOT find these with low mileage (under 40k miles) in the 30s.. low mileage M2s are in the $40s now higher mileage are in the mid to high $30s!
5:26 welll that aged poorly. Lol jk kinda. Looking for an m2 and the market overall is just bonkers! Thanks for the insight tho. Edit: okay so yeah just sitting here and thinking if an m2 with 40k miles is worth 45k. Then watch in 2 months the market corrects and I’m upside down. Ughghhh why did I have to need a car now
You'd be seriously challegned to find a low mileage M2 in the $30K range. If your looking for a low mileage BMW in the $30K range, then you're probably going to end up with a 330i M package model.
Another good one Jon. I'm a bit older than you, so your comment about crazy horsepower rings true. It's really difficult (on the road) to fully use the power of the N55 for more than a a few minutes at a time. Couple that with that gorgeous N55 growl and I just don't have a use for the Competition.
@@ThicWhips Forgot to mention, I'm also on a 6MT and my next mod is something you'd like. Auto Solutions short shift kit. Do your research, but I have driven a buddy's M2 with it fitted and the gear changes are ASTONISHING!. No more lag between shifts and as crisp as it gets.

10:40 cant agree with that one. m3/4 looks better in my opinion
So you like the M2? Its a beautiful car with some old school and new school technology together. My M4 is very competent but I fell like an operator a bit isolated from the machine.
I love the m2, I feel much more connected to it than other f series cars o have driven
Wish l had a m2 and l still don't have my license 😅
Here in Germany the cheapest M2 is 39900€ (~47000$).
The cheapest M2 Competition (with M Seats) costs 50000€ (~59000$).
Would you still buy the M2 or save up for the M2 competition?
2 years lauter, same price!
what did you do.. i would go for the m2 because of the sound.. its pure M feeling and i dont care if im at 100 around 5 oder 4.9 seconds or whatever those m2s need... also the headlights of the m2 are more perfectly.. and ofcourse them seats and digital display and lcd lights is maybe nicer but still the OG and LCI is one of the last king streetcars.
Thinking about getting an M2, my 328i is awesome for my affordability because I’m just a 19 year old but the M2 does seem like a monster build .
You should!!
Dope I found your channel 💯💯💯
Great car but you feel the difference in the steering. OG M2 is numb af
Flashed with Thor, steering is stiffened. Closest you’ll get to hydrolic
Hey dude, so how did the winter go for you and your m2?
Well, no problems, but this past winter was deep covid, so I was able to keep it in the garage for weeks on end. I'd have to say the question remains unanswered, still haven't had it out in any real ice and snow.
@@thelonious-dx9vi wow, thanks for the quick response! I'm still trying to convince myself to leave the xDrive and join the M forces
Damn in my country they are at 60k+...
When I was looking to snag a new car after my S4 got totaled, I looked at M2’s and M4’s and ended up going with the M4. The M2 felt fun but the power was down for me, and the DCT with the S55 is insane...the N55 just sounds better lol
Hell yeah, can’t go wrong with the m4. Such an incredible car!
Joseph Avino when I was snagging my M4, the comp wasn’t an option....(price lol) but the M2 Comp is a monster 👍
So, final verdict after 21 minutes….buy the competition.
crankhub issue
Money no object m2 cs/ m2 comp/ m2
Looking for one now, wish me luck 😅
You talking about getting these in the low $30's was depressing. Today you're spending at least $40k for well-usesd example.
Another good one Jon. I'm a bit older than you, so your comment about crazy horsepower rings true. It's really difficult (on the road) to fully use the power of the N55 for more than a a few minutes at a time. Couple that with that gorgeous N55 growl and I just don't have a use for the Competition.
I hear ya! Thanks for watching!
Interesting I will check it out thanks!
Bro, you are awesome. I know you're on the M2 now, gorgeous car! I just bought a F30 328 and your channel is already helping me with a lot of stuff. Thanks again for your content, keep it coming!
New Subscriber! Very Impressive Vid! I've been looking at the M2 for awhile. It will be my Next Ride. THANKS!
watching this 3 years later and the prices are now 36k for a 2017 m2 with 30-40k miles... what has this market come to
yeah everyone talks about how well this car handles versus the m240 with the open diff (yes ik u can opt for the limited slip but those are harder to find) and rn my dilemma is next spring/summer i’d love to hop inna f22 but do i go with b58 and worse handling or beefed n55 and better handling cuz they not too far apart in price anymore
Thank you for sharing your experience! 👍 i‘m looking for an m2 manual too. Going to test drive one on friday 🙏🏻
Not anymore they are almost 50 avg now used with millage. Low mileage 2016 2017 52 53k
M4 owner here. Agreed M2 front is the most aggressive. Love it.
M4 is badass as well 💪🏽
M2 vs GR86??
Would you say the M2 cabin room is equivalent to the E92?
I’ve actually never been in an e92.
The E92 is bigger - width and wheelbase
Hey, where did you get M4 seats for your M2 and how did you install them? Any help would be appreciated, God Bless
Hey bro I have a question, big fan , so I'm thinking about getting a f87 , 18 , auto. Overall , yes ?
Thank you for your nice vidéo. I am riding with an M2 Competition with a MANUAL gearbox since more than 3 years and made 80.000km. I love it and certainly with Akrapovic exhaust and a lot of power. So I agreed with you it is a amazing car my only one.
