    Alireza determined to be in the candidates and made his way to the candidates by some cheap fly by night tournaments but it seems by his awful performance so far indicates he's not yet ready.

      he was more ready in 2021 so it s not about not being ready yet, it s about not tryharding chess as much as before since few years and still wanting to compete at the highest level where everyone must be sharp to be decent at least at the tournament

    Alireza is not prepared for this tournament ,the guy is very talented for sure but very fragile mentally,He lacks good coaching,He needs a top level coach

    Alireza artificially pumped his ELO past Wesley So to qualify for the Candidates by hosting his own tournament full of tier 2 players. Now he's lost 16.4 rating points in the Candidates and has dropped to rank #16 in classical, compared to So who is #8. Karma is real.

      Can't blame him for 'gaming' the system. It's what any player would do. But yes, his performance has been absolutely shocking. He can't seem to hold his nerve at the candidates.

      He literally didn't, the Chartres tournament wasn't rated by FIDE. He played the opens in Rouen, which Wesley could also have entered - but decided the Candidates wasn't worth all that.

      @@i-am-batman8538 Yes he did. Guccireza joined the tournament with the purpose to surpass Wesley. Then there was controversy to the point that the United States Chess Federation appealed to FIDE to have the tournament not be rated.
      It wasn't rated after the fact. But that doesn't change the fact that Guccireza tried

      @@RoadToStrength-nv8ei Funny way to try undermine Alireza. Sure, Chartres was set up to get a spot at the Candidates - which at the time was fully within the rules. It shouldn't have been though, which is why FIDE didn't rate it. Alireza then played another pre-announced open tournament, and Wesley couldn't be arsed. Alireza fully deserved his spot and earned it fairly - maybe if Wesley wanted to play at the Candidates he should've played something other than a closed invitational event.

      @@i-am-batman8538 You know better than me that the tournament that Alireza organised for himself at the very end of December was a pure joke. He played with some "boiled" French GMs (but better than Grand Masters is better to call them Mini Masters) which lost in a miserable way. Wesley did all correctly, but Alireza's behaviour was (as usual) absolutely unsportsmanlike. Now, fortunately, Alireza is paying the consequences.

Wesley could have qualified if he didn't see playing in open tournaments as beneath him. Be salty all you want, but get your facts right - Alireza earned his spot.

      @@i-am-batman8538, do you want to talk about the Rouen Open, where Alireza played in an open tournament for the €700 top prize instead of playing in the World Rapid and Blitz Championships? In Rouen, he even played against the second-best player (by a big margin) from his club, who was clearly a sparring partner to make sure there were enough potential Elo points to get? Well, I am so happy to see the REAL Alireza's value in the Candidates.

      @@ItalanFindart The salt is so intense with you. Yeah Alireza played an open tournament with a small prize pot over World Rapid and Blitz, how tf is that a bad thing? He wanted to qualify to the Candidates via the rating spot - and entered a tournament to do so (as could anyone else inc. Wesley). Pathetic attempt to try and make Rouen sound fixed also, he went 7/7 beating some good players including Gata Kamsky. Deal with it, his qualification was absolutely fine.

    All that maneuvering to get to the Candidates when he's in such poor form, probably his lowest since 2020 or so. It's time for Alireza to start seriously considering withdrawing, or else he might fall out of top 25 in a blink. He's -3 and tilted by round 6, 2744 live and slippery slope from here.
