Buccees is privately owned, and they treat their employees well. They get the perks like health insurance, 401k’s with matching, paid vacations, etc, that employees at gas stations and convenience stores do not usually get. I suspect that is a big part of their success as a business… their employees actually care about their jobs.

Beef Jerky was/is not only used by cowboys, but natives of the North and South American countinents. It was a way to preserve meat.

In the United States, a "burger" is a ground meat patty served on a hamburger bun. However, if you happen to come across a ground meat patty placed between slices of bread with melted cheese and onions, that would be known as a "patty melt." While sandwiches can certainly use buns, they do not necessarily contain a ground meat patty and, therefore, are referred to as sandwiches. For instance, a chicken burger would feature a ground chicken patty, whereas a chicken sandwich would be made with chicken breast or other cuts of chicken.

This is the Buc-ee's location in New Braunfels, Texas. It is about 15 miles away from my front door. I go by all the time for gas as they have some of the best gas prices in town. They also have over 100 gas pumps so you never have to wait.
The Store is always busy but they have about 65 - 100 employees working at any one time so it is very well organized chaos. It is an incredible place and a must-not-miss stop when visiting. It is not a place to go for your regular groceries but is ideal for Buc-ee's branded special items.
An interesting fact is that they are a gas station and not a truck stop, big rigs are not allowed to park in the lot. The parking lot has about 1000 parking spaces but no big rigs are allowed. Also, they have amazing food but are not a restaurant, they have no seating inside or out. You purchase your food and eat in your car! I LOVE IT!

From Texas...Only way I eat brisket is the sliced beef sandwich, on a hamburger bun. You can also get it in chopped beef, like she did in the video. The sliced beef tends to be more lean while the chopped is more fatty. Another awesome way is to get the loaded baked potato with brisket, butter, cheese sour cream, green onions and bacon.

I'm a truck driver, who's from Texas. Buckees is a MUST on any road trip with the family. As for buckees not allowing semi trucks, that mainly comes from how messy truck stop parking lots have become, same with overnighters traveling, alot of Walmarts now don't allow semi trucks or overnight parking, but Walmart seems to be much more linient.

Jerky came from a time before refrigeration to preserve meat for long term. The fresh meat was jerked into strips and dried either in the sun or preferably over seasoned (hickory, mesquite, etc) smoke.
Pickled eggs were to preserve eggs from a summertime excess to be used in winter when the hens lay fewer. They can be fresh for cooking or boiled eggs with spices.
Kolaches are from the areas of Texas settled by Czech people. I've never seen the giant ones. Usually they are dinner roll sized with a little sausage and maybe jalapeño. 😋
When you come, visit the town of West, Texas for fabulous Czech food. West is a specific town not just a direction.

    • @chrisr267
      @chrisr267 6 месяцев назад

Kolache (Koláč in Czech) just means cake/pie. What Texans make with sausage have absolutely nothing to do with Czech food. If anything, they would be called Klobásník, but they're not that common in a lot of Czechia.

    • @QwestyDaQwest
      @QwestyDaQwest 6 месяцев назад

@@chrisr267 they were brought to texas by czech immigrants, OP is correct. they originally were sweet and filled with jelly or fruit. over time they fused with texas and mexican cuisine and started putting sausages, jalapenos, cheese etc. in them. they still make the sweet versions of them they just also make the meat filled versions now, and they are all called the same thing. kolaches. to texans its more about the type of sweet bread that is used and it being filled with something. pigs in a blanket are basically the same thing, but in texas aren't kolaches because of the difference in bread used.

Jerky is delicious and entertaining on a long, boring drive through featureless landscapes. The flavor awakens your taste buds and the chewiness of the meat keeps your mouth entertained longer than other styles of meat. It is usually bought in small packages that may be weeks or months old, and can still taste good. But the best way is to find a place that makes its own brand and get it fresh. When I lived in Utah we would make a two hour drive into the mountains just to get the jerky made by a family owned business in the middle of nowhere. They had beef, deer, antelope, moose and turkey jerky.

Jerky is one of the best survival foods, because it stays good for a very long time. It tastes much better than it looks. We never went hunting, fishing, hiking, camping or on a trip without it.
Because winters here can be so harsh, it's common to have a bag, box(milk crate), bucket or tote in the vehicle with a make shift survival kit.
The kit usually contains extra socks(usually wool). a wool blanket, road flares, survival candles with some form of fire starter, Jerky, Nuts, Chocolate... I like to add Honey, peanut butter and some form of cracker. 1 thing that's overlooked to often is a multivitamin.

Conversational Czech was one of the largest language classes at the college in Houston where my Dad taught. One thing the immigrants brought with them was a Czech / Slovak pastry called koláč, with a slightly sweet yeast dough and usually a fruit filling. In Texas they became kolaches, and since Texans are all about the meat, the most popular kolaches here are filled with sausage and cheese.

No doubt, going on vacation in a Walmart parking lot is a terrible idea lol. Taking into account all the money and time spent to go sit in that parking lot, there wouldn't be anything free about it. Because it would be a total waste of a trip and a guaranteed awful experience for a multitude of reasons. Better off just staying home. Plus there's no hook ups for water or electricity,... because it's a store parking lot. That'll add an extra layer of awful lol.
RV park or campground is the only way to go... like the OP said, the entire point of an RV is to see the country, experience the outdoors and the nature, camp out, cook out, meet fellow travelers etc.

Modern manufactured jerky is often marinated, prepared with a seasoned spice rub or liquid, or smoked with low heat (usually under 70 °C/160 °F). Store-bought jerky commonly includes sweeteners such as brown sugar.
Jerky is ready-to-eat, needs no additional preparation and can be stored for months without refrigeration. To ensure maximum shelf-life, a proper protein-to-moisture content is required in the final cured product.
Many products which are sold as jerky consist of highly processed, chopped and formed meat rather than traditional sliced whole-muscle meat.[citation needed] These products may contain more fat, but moisture content, as in the whole-muscle product, must meet a 0.75 to 1 moisture-to protein ratio in the US.

About half of Wal-Marts allow overnight RV parking, of those about half are located in areas where it is probably not safe to do so. As a general rule in larger cities Wal-Marts are mostly located in the less safe areas, but in smaller towns that only have one Wal-Mart they are located in prime real estate areas. In other words if a city is big enough to have 5 Wal-Marts, 1 is in a good area where you don't mind being, 1 or 2 will be in high crime areas where you should not be surprised if you are assaulted in the parking lot, or your car is broken into while you are shopping in the daytime, and you should simple stay away at night, the others are somewhere in the middle. Wal-Mart also tends to not allow overnight RV parking near popular tourist areas, near popular lakes, beaches, touristy towns, etc.

Beef jerky is seasoned dehydrated meat. It has been associated with ciwboys because you can have meat anytime... no refrigeration necessary.

I love Dr. Pepper. Buc-ee's bbq sandwiches are amazing.
Not all Walmarts allow overnight parking so I'd check first.
A kolache is a piece of smoked sausage and cheese wrapped in a dough similar to a roll and then baked. Haven't tried them at Buc-ees but the ones that the local family owned donut shop makes are delicious.

The money spent looks a lot, but it's also for the beaver costume, and possibly for the gas. I'm surprised they didn't spend more.

I doubt the $50 includes the gas and costume. The costume is probably $50 and the gasoline was probably $50 to $100. Those vans have big tanks

I’m originally from NYC but the first time I went to Bucees I became obsessed. One just opened in Colorado where I live now and I drive an hour just to get the sliced brisket sandwich, the brisket breakfast burrito , cinnamon pecans and of course beaver nuggets. U have them once and you’ll be hooked.

There’s 120 gas pumps and our car broke down at a gas pump. We had to have a tow truck come to us. The tow company wanted to know where we were, it was easy pump 37

NOT ALL, but some truckers prefer big-rig stations for several reasons: the gas is easier, there are usually showers, real sit-down meal/diner, and, um, ladies of the evening. Pretty sure Buc-cee's was trying to keep the place very family-friendly.

If you are traveling in an RV, it is better to stop at a campground for most nights. That way you can plug into electricity instead of using up fuel running your generator, refill your water tanks, and dump your waste tank. Most RV campgrounds are reasonably priced.
Vans may have only a composting toilet or none at all and no water tanks so a Wal-Mart parking lot would be a better option for that type of vehicle.

Im from Texas and have been to that very Buc-ee's many times. This is older as you can tell almost everyone has the pandemic masks on. There is an even bigger Buc--ee's in Tennessee which is now the largest. I've also been o that one on my travels. But quite honestly, at that point, they are so big, you really can't tell the difference unless you start counting the number of stuff like pumps, bathrooms stalls, etc. The roasted nuts are fantastic!

As a Texan- they got the wrong beef jerky. The pre-packaged ones aren’t good. They actually have a meat counter with tons of in-house smoked flavors. Even salmon jerky. That’s some of the most tender and satisfying jerky I’ve ever had.

I’ve been to this exact Buc-ee’s many times. I love their candied pecans. My only complaint is that the jerky is expensive. But then again, most jerky is expensive. Also, I believe they’re building an even bigger Buc-ee’s somewhere too.

In an RV; whether a motorhome, trailer, or van; highway rest areas are ideal for overnights. Out west, lots of federal land near the highway is also good for overnights or stays up to 14 days (all free). Walmart is my last resort, but okay when nothing else is available.

There are 9 states that have at least 1 buc ee's gas stations. South Carolina will be opening a 2nd location in 2025 in the upstate area. There's a location that opened relatively recently in the low country. I wonder if they will also build one in the midlands area.
All 3 have major interstate roadways that would be great for travelers.

Andre, I agree that you should consider renting a travel camper! You can typically park overnight for free at Walmart, truck stops, hotels, hospitals, Cracker Barrel, Planet Fitness, and Home Depot. Make sure to ask for permission! See you when you come to Texas!🤠🎉 Make sure to come in October during the state fair and good weather!😊

Love watching your reactions! As for parking overnight - America is covered in RV parks and camping sites where you can park and sleep. Most are away from the city though, in pretty natural areas (there are city ones around major attractions like Disneyland.) So if you want to park and sleep in the city, then yes Walmart is an easy choice.
