The Blue Angel's come to Seattle Washington every August for SeaFair. The city stops for the posted practice runs and the for the main show on Saturday. Wonderfully beautiful!
The beauty is these guys and girls are actual combat veterans , the very best that are chosen to be a part of this prestigious group! There’s a RUclipsr that was a Thunderbird recently (the Air Forces F16 demonstrators) he gives some great insights .
Wrong. They are not veterans. Veterans are people who served in the military but a have been discharged or have retired from military service. Also, they may or may not have combat experience. The proper way to say it is they are 'active duty pilots from the fleet'.
a lot of that footage is from the annual Seafair Seattle. Amazing air and boat show mostly over Lake Washington and Puget Sound.
The Blue Angels 360 degree videos are great. With a movement of the mouse/track pad you get a 360 view of the flight.
Older American here. Good banter. It's nice to hear you comment on the UK equivalents & experiences. Don't forget about all those who keep all these aircraft flying. Just an FYI: The UK's Red Arrows fly a BAE two-seat training aircraft while the Blue Angel's fly an F/A 18 Super Hornet, a combat type aircraft. The US Air Force demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, also use a combat type aircraft, the F-16 Fighting Falcon. All the people associated with these various demonstration groups are truly fantastic! Thank you for your service!!
The Blue Angles main base is in Pensacola , Florida . They usually practice on a Tuesday or Wednesday . You can get a schedule and watch from the beach . They also make up a song with what moves they will be making during the show . They all learn it and know when to make the moves !
Im from Pensacola Florida home of the Blue Angels ...We watch them practice fly overs alot and they are amazing they fly for like a hour or so everytime they also have on plane a C130 flown by a female pilot its named "FAT ALBERT"...awesome video
The other pilot was his lead man, that’s why he was gauging his distance to him and not looking down the runway. Years ago (1982) the Air Force Thunderbirds had a horrible crash as the lead man initiated a loop but was not at the proper altitude. The other 3 aircraft and pilots were doing the exact same thing, gauging their horizontal distance to the lead pilot. The lead pilots miscalculation cost them all their lives.
It’s kind of like doing 80 mph tailgating someone and the next thing you know they rear end someone, and so do you.
Regarding ages, the team commander is in his mid-40s; the other pilots are mostly early to mid-30s.
Keep in mind, these are fleet pilots! They are not "Special Display Pilots". You're chosen, you leave your airwing in the off season, practice, do the airshow circuit and after one or two seasons...go back to your airwing in the fleet! These are literally "off the shelf" navy pilots!
That's the "line" the Navy likes to spew for recruiting purposes - "these guys are just regular sailors, so you can be a Blue Angel someday, all you have to do is JOIN THE NAVY". But, in reality the 2 years they serve as Blue Angel pilots: they don't do any carrier take-offs or landings, they don't fire missiles, they don't drop bombs, they don't dodge surface-to-air missiles, they don't dodge air-to-air missiles from enemy fighters, they don't operate the radar, they don't operate the weapons system computer, they don't fly nighttime missions and they don't fly electronic jamming missions. (the current Blue Angel #7 is an EA-18G Growler pilot). They spend 2 years doing: airshow practice, flying the airshow routines, doing PR in between airshows and practice and flying to/from airshows. Soooo....that certainly sounds like they are "Special Display Pilots"....for 2 years.
@@Sudas80 They are not the best of the best. There are PLENTY of fleet pilots that have no desire or aspiration to be a Blue Angel. The best pilots are still out in the fleet. The only thing you could say is these Blue Angel pilots are the "best of the pool of pilots who applied to be Blue Angels".....but they are not the best in the entire Navy. And if you ask a Blue Angel they will tell you the same.
@@Sudas80 Nowhere did I say they are "random pilots". You apply and you go through a lengthy and thorough selection process.
@@Sudas80 Again you are making uninformed assumptions. There are PLENTY of pilots in the fleet that have more years, flight hours and carrier-arrested landings than the Blue Angels. Only the C.O. BA #1 has been flying F/A-18s "for years" (19 to be exact).
And, most of the current team members have considerable time as (back-seat) instructors at the Fleet Replacement Squadrons VFA-122 at NAS Lemoore, CA and VFA-106 at NAS Oceana, VA. That's not "yanking and banking" or "doing it" as you say.
And once their 2-year stint with the Blue angels is over, they may be excellent airshow pilots....but they are utterly useless as combat-ready fleet pilots. They all have to be retrained and re-qualified in all aspects - carrier take-offs and landings, radar systems, weapons systems, dropping bombs, firing missiles, nighttime flying, nighttime carrier take-offs and landings.
Current Blue Angel team:
#1 CDR Armatas - flying F/A-18E since 2005
#2 LCDR Keilty - flying F/A-18C since 2014, flying F/A-18E since 2018
#3 LT Perkins - flying F/A-18E since 2016
#4 LCDR Lee - flying F/A-18E since 2016
#5 LCDR Stangel - flying F/A-18E since 2015
#6 CDR Zimmerman - flying F/A-18E since 2014
#7 LT O'Donnell - flying EA-18G Growler since 2018
The THUNDERBIRDS were here in Arizona two weeks ago. At LUKE AIRFORCE BASE. They were fantastic. Low flying precision maneuvers. Sutch a great show. The BLUE ANGELS do the same thing.
Can't get enough of the Angels....so proud!
My high school was next to a naval Air Force base and at lunch we used to go outside and watch them practice. Was a lot of fun
A Naval Air Force base????? What does that even mean. Stop making stuff up. Some of us grew up in the military and served. Stop making stuff up
@@gmac9987 it was a navy base that used a lot of aircraft. I’m not military either so idk the specific terminology. Also this would be a weird thing to lie about lol
No one cares
@@Mayan_88694 mow my lawn
Saw these guys a couple years ago at Master Jet Base Oceania in Virginia Beach, Va. Have seen them several times as my Father was a career Navy man and spent most of my life near that base.
Mike as my wingman pulling up in reverse
Right way? 😂❤
Every summer Chicago has an air and water show over Lake Michigan. It’s really awesome.
Some of the clips were taken over the Seattle area. You can tell because of the hundreds of boats on the water and the floating bridge crossing Lake Washington.
Yeah, most of it was Seattle footage. Loved going out and watching those shows as a kid.
@@Go4Jeph I have not lived there since 1957 (my brother does though), but when I did we first lived on Mercer Island then Bellevue. It was a small town then.
The BLUE ANGELES are navy. The THUNDERBIRDS are airforce.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 best fighter pilots on Earth
Yup, the Blue Angels are based out of Pensacola, Florida. They’re part of the Navy so all of the pilots are fighter pilots from either the Navy or Marine Corps. I’m not sure of the particulars, but they have to have completed a certain number of flight hours and completed an operational fleet tour. If I’m not mistaken, once they finish their Blue Angels tour, they go back to their fleet to finish out their career. I used to live close to Pensacola and it was always cool seeing the BA fly, especially their homecoming show in July.
Wrong!!!! Not anymore. When they flew the F/A-18C & D Hornet, ONE of the pilots was always from the USMC. But, in 2020 they switched to the F/A-18E & F Super Hornet and now all of the pilots are now from the Navy because the USMC does not fly the Super Hornet. Only the C-130 Hercules support aircraft "Fat Albert" is flown by USMC pilots.
Yup. They are based at Pensacola and the Navy also has a great museum there as well. The Blue Angels are the best of the best from the Navy and Marine Corps. When in Pensacola I highly recommend visiting the museum.
No flat-earthers to be found in this group!
I was on a double deck boat in Chicago during the airshow. They came down really low a flew right above us. It was very cool. I have seen the Blue Angles and Thunderbirds a few times. I believe these guys only do this for two years. They are the best pilots in the Navy. Some of them become commercial pilots if they leave the service. There is a YT channel where a Navy pilot does his last flight before retirement. It is pretty interesting.
Handling the G forces alone, takes absolute skill
No G-suits either. The AF Thunderbirds use them though.
Everytime i watch videos of fighter pilots i spend the rest of the day realizing i aimed way WAY to low in life 😂
These jets are also combat ready. They can be pushed back into combat with less than a days worth of work.
Less than a day?!?!?!? Try 3 days which is 72 hours.
they just flew over my house today during thunder over louisville
That was Seattle, Washington. There are several bases there, including a carrier base and Boeing Field.
there are several cockpit view videos of "Blue Angel shows with audio". The "Boss" #1 is the only one giving instructions to the diamond ( the two solos #5 & #6 use their own channel when flying "unattached"). Also the C-135 support A/C "Fat Albert" does a short show before the Angels fly. there is one video of Alberts show with cockpit audio that is really cool. Albert also has ride-alongs during it's show.
There is a RUclips channel run by a military pilot who covers all sorts of videos on flying both military and regular. He has guests on including pilots from this kind of thing. Can't remember the channels name, but if it comes to me, I'll put it in a reply to this comment.
The Blue Angels have literally been flying over my house the last few days! They are practicing in Florida atm
Tom Segura just took a flight with blue angels and put out a video you should check out! 😘
I lived and worked in Orange Beach Alabama for years which borders Pensacola, and it was extremely common to see the Blues fly by over the beach.
Go Navy ;-) I have seen the Thunderbirds (USAF) jet in a few feet over my head ;-))
Their runway is 900 feet from my home in Pensacola. They practice 2-3 days a week. They are routinely 75 feet above my rooftop.
I know this is 2 months old, but this video was their salute to the people. When the country reopened after covid, they did a flight over all the US cities with the USAF Thunderbirds. If you notice in the early part of the video, when the Blue Angels are first in formation, the Thunderbirds are below them to the right of the screen.
This is why it's limited stunts and acrobatics but more tight formation video.
And this is why they dont wear g-suits. They fly so close, if the suit inflates it can cause input on the controls that will cause a collision.
A G-suit inflates around the lower half of the aviator's body , and in case of an ejection over the water the air in the G-suit would drown the aviator by inverting his legs above the surface and his head below the surface of the ocean .
I kept tilting my head right along with Mike lol
The area you kept commenting about how many boats was Seattle. I think the majority of that footage was Florida and Washington…
They are all active duty Navy and Marine pilots. They are just doing a tour of duty before they go back to the fleet.
Oh... OK. So they do have both Navy and Marine pilots in the command. Weird. I'm not sure what I was so "Wrong!!!!" about?
In the spirit of our British counterparts... don't be such a bloody tool.
@@anthonyherrick2732 Well, since bloody Fat Albert does not make a bloody appearance anywhere in this bloody video you are still 100% bloody wrong because your bloody comment was about the bloody pilots flying the F/A-18 Hornets in the bloody video. If I didn't mention Fat Albert, your bloody response would have been, "Oh... OK. I didn't know they were all Navy pilots now....I guess I'm an absolute bloody tool. I'll sit down and shut my bloody mouth now."
Loving the aircraft content
Yes they listen to the lead pilot and do there stuff by the speed of his voice and what he is saying
From the ground it looks like they are flying just smooth through the air. But definitely from this point of view you can see how they are buffeting from turbulence and looks so scary like they are going to get bumped into each other. Wow. It's just amazing how dangerous it is but the skill level they have to be able to do this. A pilot once told me they get as close as 18 inches away from each other's wing tips. Just the best of the best the United States Navy has to be. I'm so proud of all our military.
Howdy y'all from the Great State of Texas 🇺🇸
They are based in Pensacola Naval Air Station I was a civilian Paramedic in that area and when they had their big air show we would be requested by the Navy for additional ambulances to assist with any medical emergency situations in the crowd and surrounding city because it was such a huge event most of the crowd watched it in huge numbers on civilian property but were based on military base as well along with the Navy medical staff. I got to walk up to one of the Blue Angels jets and I was surprised the first time how small they are. I think what’s more impressive is the I believe it’s a c130 that carries the crew and staff around to air shows it prop but it has a jet in the rear and can literally take off straight up like a rocket That plane would take them to a place like San Diego Naval Station where they also have blue angels but I was told by one of the pilots that Pensacola is there headquarters
You guys should react to How Geography Made the U.S. OP. Its long but its detailed and I think you guys would enjoy it.
Thunderbirds in the F-16s of the US Airforce is my personal favorite 🔥🤘🏴☠️
Same.
When the Thunderbirds flew at the Cleveland Air Show my friend was getting married on the same weekend. I was in the wedding party and we were standing outside the Rock and Roll HOF in our fancy clothes. Several pics had to be retaken in the moment because either the group or the photographer were jump startled by several f16s ripping by. One of the coolest experiences of my entire life.
They practice over my house. I get a free show all the time.
15:50 Fireworks with Airplanes
Acrobatics are in the circus. Aerobatics are what aircraft do.👍
They came to my tiny little town last summer because we have an air show every year. We have the McMinnville Air and Space Museum. We have the Spruce Goose built by Howard Hughes. We have Evergreen Aviation from the old Air America days. We have a lot of snazzy jets flying in and out every so often. None of this is on a big airport. It is just a small little runway in a farm town of 35,000 people but it sure does seem to see some interesting company.
I am not sure that classifies as a tiny little town. 😂
I think it is just a small city that happens to have farmland around it.
I live in a town of less than 400 people and I wouldn't even call that a tiny little town. Just a small town.
If you have multiple restaurants, and clothing stores, and grocery stores then you probably don't live in a tiny little town. 😂😂 Welcome to my tiny little town, where would you like to eat? Here is a list of 20 choices. Are you staying at the Best Western or one of the several other hotels? 😂😂 Oh yeah, small town living.
This is not Chicago; it is Seattle. You can see them flying over i-90 Floating Bridge. The annual event is the Seafair and they fly directly over my house in Renton. The sound is earth shaking and you can hear them coming. For a week I hear them each day. The pets in my neighborhood get freaked out by them. They are hiding or inside.
Boys. They are doing an amazon movie/show on blue angels mid to late may. Check out the trailer!
Runway One Way --> until you’re off. Military airplanes are small compared to commercial ones. Bikes vs Lorries! ALL Military Aircraft produce the sound that tells you who’s blasting off from your runways.
That's odd, I've been told the Blue Angel's home base is NAF
El Centro
This was filmed when the Blue Angels still flew the legacy Hornets (see the round air intakes). Now they fly the Super Hornets, bigger planes with rectangular intakes.
Hey Guys, These Guys are Active Military Fighter Pilots Who Training For Years To Make Blue Angels Team Then They Go Around The Country Doing Air Shows And Promoting The Navy Pilot’s! Just Like Your Red Arrows Do !
Hey Guys , How They Have There Formation Is : # 1 Lead Pilot then # 2 is Off The Leads Right Wing then 3 is Off The Leads Left Wing and 4 Is Right Below The Lead and In Between #2 and # 3 then # 5 Off # 2 Right Wing and # 6 Is Off # 3 Left Wing and # 7 is It Think Is The Solo One
5 and 6 are the solos for the first half of the show. 7 is the 2-seater that the narrator flies VIPs in. The 7 jet can also be flown by one of the 6 demo pilots as a spare jet if they have an issue with their jet
There's an awesome documentary here on RUclips about them training. It's pretty old and kinda poor quality but it's worth the watch if y'all ever get the chance to watch it. I highly recommend it.
Main base is in Pensacola, but they have another training ground out west
Im so glad I ate an Edible before watching this 😂😂🎉
You will notice that are shows with blue angels there's usually only four planes flying together in formation,, the other two planes are out flying around,,, Canada and many other countries around the world have multiple more planes in formation, without accidents....
Nice reaction guys 👍👍
No disrespect to the Red Arrows, the Thunderbirds, the Snowbirds, or any other demo team….but…NOBODY does it better than the Blues! They fly closer than any other team, no g-suits, their precision is unparalleled
Knowing they are using wide angle lenses they must be really close to eachother.
The formation is not moving anywhere near 600mph. Diamond/Delta(4-6 aircraft formations) are in the 350-400mph range. When jets 5 and six are doing sneak passes, they are just under the speed of sound, so moving almost 650mph compared to the formations.
It's great for stunts and shows, but flying in close formation give you a tactical advantage against radar. It tricks enemy radar into thinking there are less aircrafts than their actually is.
And Mike, you're right about them flying at slight different altitudes. You'd lose a ton of power if your intake was just sucking in super heated, already combusted air with little oxygen remaining.
WELT documentary just uploaded Air Defender 2023. The biggest NATO air force exercise across Europe since the cold war.
I don't know about you, but my butt is clinched!!
The exhibitions flown by the Navy and Air Force demonstration teams are made up of basic flight maneuvers (BFM) that all fighter pilots are taught. The teams are composed of active duty pilots who fly with the team for usually a year and who can do those maneuvers very very well.😉
Just fyi, fling a formation, even during take off, all the pilots have to look at their lead aircraft for spacing and maneuvering.
I like how you mention these aviators skill level and training, would it surprise you to find out that these aviators are normal Naval Aviators, just fleet pilots, the Blue Angels is just another command in the U.S. Navy, these aircrew rotate in and out of the Blue angels like they rotate into and out of any other command, and when they have served their 2 years in the Blue Angels, they rotate back into the regular fleet and start flying on and off aircraft carriers again.
Very impressive. Almost reckless? It looks like they are flying in formation with a tiny bit of flaps down. You see the gap between the ailerons and the flaps i.e. at 9:25.
You should watch Blue angels and thunderbirds fly over nyc.
1,400 mph craaaaazy fun
WOW, ok Dave is gone from the opening credits now...
... Now they are rewatching videos they already watched.
I definitely like you guys. I’m SURE it’s been covered before but what happened to the other Office Bloke?
Training to be an electrician.
I wonder what would happen if one of them sneezed
The Blue Angels fly newer, better jets (4th gen super hornets) than the ACTIVE Canadian military does.
Googled it, stand corrected
Yes, they spend most of the year in Pensacola. And three months in California.
They have a 360 video you should check out.Wouldn't make a good video like this.Something to do personally and on your phone.
Yeah I dont know about this...if they make a mistake its not just their lives on the line, all of those houses and buildings they are flying over, many people could die.
Lockdown flyovers with the Thunderbirds too in the USA
Tricks flying over major population centers not empty fields
USA has a fleet of AI piloted F-16s
A fleet of F-16s?!?!?!? Where are you getting your information? There is ONE AI-piloted F-16 which is called the X-62A VISTA. Google it.
React to the Blue Angels movie trailer!!!
Ive always wondered how in the world they get approved/clearance to perform over residential areas. One mishap or even an equipment malfunction and itd be disastrous 😧

36 million is nothing compared to the billions we give to other countries lol
