I have been following the advice in your videos for over two years. The advice is great and I have learned a lot. As a full time performer I can say that IT ALL WORKS. Thanks

Basically, you need to know the concepts are the same, whether it's an original or a cover. Live is a different medium than a recording. That needs to be understood & rehearsed correctly. It's about an emotional connection, which can't be learned with a few quick tips. You need to have confidence & authority, how to visually & verbally communicate, what it means to change pressure, direct attention, etc. The audience perspective is different than yours - and theirs' is the one that matters!

Conceptually, my Method works whether it's cover songs or original tunes. The idea is to engage the audience & exceed their expectations. Many people love to hear their favorite songs! But if you only play them like they were recorded, your audience isn't getting what they came to a LIVE show for. They need to see the "you" coming through - your personality, your uniqueness. You need to own the stage, understand the art of verbal and visual communication, and much more, to have a great show.

Absolutely, Tris67 - you are going to "see the bands perform". What Tom is talking about here is what you expect to get out of THAT. Although we don't consciously realize it, whenever we go to an event, a movie, a show, a whatever, we want it to be interesting enough to be fully engaged, we want to experience moments (we want to laugh or cry or be amazed, etc., etc.), and - again, even though we don't realize it - we want to come out of the event changed in some way!

I highly recommend my book as a starting place - you can find that on my website at the Merch Table. And yes, live music producing 1-on-1 is important when you're ready for that step. But a better initial investment is the book or my DVD set so you can learn the basics first.
