loved Gorillaz forever now. Some interesting facts about the group. Since its a cartoon group they can switch out band members and regularly do. In fact the only original members left are the singer/voice of 2D (the blue haired guy with black eyes singing "feel good") and the main cartoonist I believe. However the cartoon characters have always remained the same except for "Noodle" the guitarist (the young one on the windmill island) she has over the years gotten older and is now a grown woman. Because of the cartoon nature of the characters they frequently feature a ton of guest artists and imo lesser known talents and get them exposure. Over the years their albums have covered a WIDE genre, from the early demon days that featured more rap to the now more recent songs which are more pop in nature, for a little bit there they were pretty experimental even. However throughout all of this they have remained an excellent band and continue to be one of my all time greats. Some songs I would recommend would be, clint eastwood, demon days, dirty harry, on melancholy hill, DARE, Saturnz Barz, Stylo, Rock the House and 19-2000. I could go on further but these are some of their best imo. Dont sleep on the Gorillaz man, they are amazing
Its not so much switching out band members. Its just different bands for each tour or recording. I think the touring band Damon has right now has been the longest he’s had a touring band. Maybe 4 years?
This was a project put together by uncredited studio musicians using animated characters as front characters, with guest rappers for the break on each song. This utterly dominated the charts in the early 2000s.
Yeah, this is complete bullshit sorry. They absolutely were credited at the time. On the liner notes of their first record, Damon Albarn was credited. Literally anyone who was listening to music in the 90s would recognise Albarns voice on 19/2000. By Demon Days it was well established that it was Damon Albarn's band.
Gorillaz aren't exactly "rock" music, they are pretty diverse and genre-bending, but a lot of their earlier stuff had a punk rock/old school hip hop feel. they were created by Damon Albarn (frontman for the English band Blur) and Jamie Hewlett (artist and co-creator of Tank Girl comics). Damon and Jamie are the only two permanent members of Gorillaz, with Damon handling the music side of things and Jamie handling all the art and character design. They created a virtual band to comment on the lack of substance of the bands on TV and the radio at the time. Damon is pretty much a musical fucking genius, and has done everything from punk rock/hip hop to classical/orchestral, avant-garde and even an opera. He is the voice behind 2D and produces most of the Gorillaz catalogue, playing guitar, bass, keyboards/pads, and a wide range of other instruments, however he loves to collaborate and work with a huge pool of other artists and close friends, so while they have a sizeable catalogue of their own songs, a lot of Gorillaz music has guest artists making appearances (this is most apparent on one of their latest albums "Humanz"). but remember, "Gorillaz" is only technically Damon and Jamie. a few frequent collaborators are Del the Funky Homosapien (who voices Russell the drummer) and is featured on a couple of their old top tracks from the first album, and De La Soul who rap in this song and are featured in multiple albums across the Gorillaz timeline. you should definitely check out more of them, because the Gorillaz are fucking legendary, and like I said, Damon is a god damn genius. they often have very legendary and respectable guest artists as well. Their first two albums (Gorillaz and Demon Days) are very punk-rock and 90s hip-hopish feeling, but Damon starts to really open up the range once you get to Plastic Beach and The Fall. Whenever Gorillaz tours, it's usually just Damon up on stage on his piano with the live band and chorus, which is usually different each tour and has changed over the years, and whatever guest artists are in the set. The virtual band usually plays on a screen in the background or is incorporated somehow. if you haven't been able to tell by now, Gorillaz are my favourite "band" and Damon is probably my biggest influence in music and in just life, really. they have a song and sound for every mood imaginable, and they've been going strong for a long time. Damon has huge respect in the music industry for being consistently experimental and for producing high quality music, I promise you you will not be disappointed by going through their catalogue. EDIT; Gorillaz can be seen as more of a "collective" than actual band.
Gorrilaz doesn't come up that often, but their fans (myself included) are loyal AF. Gorrilaz played this song live on Colbert and Stephen did the rap part live. He did a good job

The song is actually about the commercialization and mass-producing of music. Big-name music isnt about the soul of the music anymore, it is just a factory line of "feel good" music created by big record labels to make money. Gorrilaz don't fit into any pre-designated genres, they don't have a constant sound because the members are always changing and adding their own spin to the sound of Gorillaz, and the idea that there needs to be actual people so they can do concerts and stuff is what drove the creators of Gorrilaz to make them cartoons, to prove that you dont need all that extra to just make good music.

TearsOfLA never knew that
Damn man, you didn't know the legendary Hip Hop group De La Soul? That's who was rapping.
Its like nobody knows de la soul here bruh! Some guy said the rapper was the drummer smh🤦♂️ how they gon diss trugoy like that
Hahaha I’ve still got 3ft high & rising
Douglas Cubias 90’s hip hop De La was doing it
Gorillaz got another song with Del the funky Homosapien people probably don’t know him either
@@shonen2860 I have a Deltron 3030 record. Del is the man
And he calls him self a hip-hop fan come on brother am from Amsterdam holland and I know de la soul
The actual ppl who make the music show themself but also keep a storyline going with the animated characters
It's actually only one person IRL, Damon Albarn. He's the curator of pretty much everything.

Fell in love with these guys when I was a late teen Soo almost 20yrs ago. And each album is better then the last !
Damon Albarn from a uk indie group called blur in the 90s
@@leafsinseven tomato , tom at o, never liked the tag of brit pop . They were and always will be indie to me .
blur is rad
Song 2 is a must listen by blur!

What I love about these music reaction videos is that genre no longer exists and people are exploring music as a whole.
React to: Thousand Foot Krutch
Song: Courtesy Call
hands down one of my top tracks ive ever heard!
This reaction is a pleasant surprise
Yep gotta do their track "Clint Eastwood" now you done went down this hole might as well see where it goes.
On Melancholy Hill is one of their best tracks
Clint Eastwood you gotta hear
How Far? for a taste of their newer stuff
i love your reaction and just your pure love for genuine good music. Love when music can just make you smile and feel soo good
The rappers are actually De La Soul, not part of Gorillaz, just featured in a couple songs.
ProXY One Creations I was wondering how many caught that was them. 👍
No shit!?!? I honestly never knew that.
Melancholy Hill and Humility are my two favorite songs from these guys.
I’m in to the hip hop / grime scene but if u hear this band especially in the car Im telling u now u already breaking the speed limit (bloc party) (banquet)
early bloc party is THE shit. Honestly one of the most underrated indie rock bands of the mid 2000s. The dance influence and groove on Banquet would have anyone go over the speed limit
I hope he reacts to bloc party next
I love this song. If I'm ever feeling down about my daily grind, I listen to this song and it picks me up and it tells me to keep going
When gorillaz gets called rock music
Jhors Demon3D i mean it’s alternative rock, but I feel like he should’ve done something like set if off or linkin park
What would you call it? Listed as rock on google
Ollie Fenwick well they do rock but they also do hip hop and other genres. I feel like classifying them as rock is kinda pushing it.
@@OldDollRellana agree
more alternative hip hop. The entire point of gorillaz is to be genreless.
The mythos for the band "characters" is that the drummer is super-quiet but occationally gets possessed by a kick-ass rap anger-man!
Feel Good Inc. is what got me into the Gorillaz back in 2007.
My absolute favorite part of ANY Feel Good Inc. music video reaction is right about here 6:04 for the next 8-10 seconds, because Murdoc's chaos invokes the best reactions ever.
The guy who does the non-rap vocals and writes the lyrics (and also the creator of the band) is a guy called Damon Albarn. He was originally famous for being the vocalist in a British band called Blur, who were very popular in the 90s.
THIS IS THE VIDEO THAT I NEVER KNEW ID SEE, BUT IM SO HAPPY IT EXISTS!!!
Layedbak: I was born in the 80's
Also Layedbak: Doesn't recognise De La Soul.
Lol
its del tha funky homosapien not de la soul
@@julbball1 Nope. Del was on the eponymous Gorillaz. This is De La Soul.
@@robk79 i thought it was only del you're right thanks for clearing that up for me
"Born in the 80's", not "Grew up in the 80's".
@@WhoaaaMama Still though.
The rap was done by De La Soul... best known for the hit Me, Myself, & I from the late 80's. RIP David Jude Jolicoeur who you see and hear in the video along with their DJ Mase.
that bassline will forever be engraved in my head
"old school stuff"
well, De La Soul are best known for their early-90s stuff
this was my very first bassline i learned! and it is still satisfying to play it.
so friggin smooth^^
I would love to see a reaction on Arctic Monkeys-R U Mine.. It's a great band and I'm sure you are going to like them.Y'all know what I'm talking about
Library pictures from suck it and see.. or any of that album!
YES
Mardy bum though😩
a lot of people dont know that their albums tell stories. if you get the time, sit down and watch all the music videos from one of their albums and see if you can piece the story together. it's really cool how they pull it all together
El mannana is after this I believe
They did a live version with snoop dog and the atmosphere was fire
Brilliant reaction, my dude. This song just bumps into you with its magnificence.
This is the first ever song that Gorillaz fans have heard and will recommend to new people because this song and many others that defines Gorillaz
I heard dare first
I heard clint Eastwood first
@@gracethecreator same
i found it through searching for hyperpop, so i heard valley of the pagans first lmao
Fun fact, a group of gorillas is called a "band". That's the reasoning behind their name, lol
Nah it ain’t, Jamie and Damon were born on the same year, which happened to be the year of the ape.
It's because Damon and Jamie are both from the year of the monkey.
“Lining them up like ass cracks” play on words
Ass cracks are lines of course
But crack is also cocaine, a line of cocaine
Pretty basic, I think we all knew that lol
Great react as always. This a bop 💯💯💯
You have to check out their songs "Dirty Harry" and "Stylo"
Royal Blood - Out Of The Black

Lowkey this song still hits hard after years of listening to it. Been listening since I was 7 years old and now as a 20 year old man this is still so damn good!!!

Your a decade and a half late!!!
To Feel Good Inc sure but the Gorillaz are alive and well
Gorillaz used to be a one man band, it’s used to be a guy in a studio recording myself doing every part; sings, bass, guitar, drums, and animations. It used to be all one person then he started having people join the band
Watch “El Mañana” By Gorillaz, it’s the follow up from Feel Good Inc. You should watch the whole trilogy.
I love videos like this cause it bring great music i grew ip with to new audiences! Keep it up man!
