Toxicity is a landmark record and I'm proud how they use their platform and clout to speak up for Palestinians and Armenians across the planet. I was at a show on the queen mary and saw a girl who couldn't have been more than 5ft tall get knocked by a dude twice her size and get back up screaming like a banshee before jumping back into the pit. One of the best mosh pit moments I've ever witnessed.
Frrrr moshpits are like nice riots. Everyones crazy crazy until someone falls down and then everyones out helping making sure everyone gets their chance to mosh
even nicer to the females that hop in. if one of them falls they get IMMEDIATE help, and if one of them gets hit, there's an absolute shitshow on the dude who did it

That's how SOAD is. They're Armenians who went to the same Armenian school in California. But I do know the singer, Serj grew up there as a kid up until 7, I think. He remembers bombs dropping and the death. Their music, as weird as it gets, also talks about the shit that went on and how Turkey still denies the genocide against theirs people.
SOAD concerts are the best. Saw them on tour at 2018. When they played the Prison Song. Everyone went craaaazy. It was like a wave of people pushing each other. I could see from a distance 3 groups started a literal firepit and moshed around it.
This reaction is everything. I feel like so many people just write off SOAD from the get go because they're different, when that's what makes them a great band. As a hispanic guy living in Puerto Rico i was obviously the odd one out, but to this day I listen to all of their stuff on a daily basis.

Which one tho? The into song on Mezmerize or the outro on Hypnotize? Both are fire tbh, but for me the intro Soldier Side on Mezmerize takes the cake. The clean tone on the guitar with both Serj and Daron singing gives me chills to this day.

That part at the end is called a breakdown, and it's the greatest part in every metal song. The hardcore/deathcore scene is all build ups and breakdowns and it's great. This is just Hard Rock from the early 2000's.

Haven't listened to SOAD since I was a teen but man, it brings me back to listening to them for the first time when my younger sister (of all people) turned me on to them. Love this.
I went to their show a few years ago and he had to stop a song midway through because the mosh pit was SO crazy, someone was getting trampled and almost died... They rock soooo hard but I'm even more impressed by his compassion to take care of his fans!

It is really great to see someone appreciate SOAD for the first time. Especially after I've grown up with them since middle school. Its been such a shame that they broke up and haven't been able to put out anything since Hypotize. We got a couple songs recently but that was only because they could finally (briefly) get over their egos to raise awareness for the Armenians again. One thing that sucks about getting old is realizing your favorite artists are never going to put out another album.
As someone who grew up listening to ALL of these rock songs you react to then later on brushed up on my good old school rappers and now rap is usually my go to. I thank you for these videos and your fair and honest point of view, I've always felt certain aspects of each genre play super well into the other and, as a general rule of the universe, music IS supposed to bring us all together, even if we don't bang the same thang. That part at the end is called a breakdown, and it's the greatest part in every metal song. The hardcore/deathcore scene is all build ups and breakdowns and it's great. This is just Hard Rock from the early 2000's.
SOAD is definitely Alt Metal or something along the lines of that, too heavy for it to be rock imo.

It is really great to see someone appreciate SOAD for the first time. Especially after I've grown up with them since middle school. Its been such a shame that they broke up and haven't been able to put out anything since Hypotize. We got a couple songs recently but that was only because they could finally (briefly) get over their egos to raise awareness for the Armenians again. One thing that sucks about getting old is realizing your favorite artists are never going to put out another album.

As someone who grew up listening to ALL of these rock songs you react to then later on brushed up on my good old school rappers and now rap is usually my go to. I thank you for these videos and your fair and honest point of view, I've always felt certain aspects of each genre play super well into the other and, as a general rule of the universe, music IS supposed to bring us all together, even if we don't bang the same thang.
