🥇 In 2012 at the Junior European Championships, Jay Thompson succeeded Louis Smith, Daniel Keatings and Max Whitlock to become the pommel horse gold medalist. Throughout his career Jay competed for team England and Great Britain winning over thirty medals both nationally and internationally. A combination of injuries and challenges in the sport led to him sharing his experiences publicly during the summer of 2020. Since retiring from gymnastics, he's turned his creative talents into photography and videography to build a successful career of his own. And this is his story 🎙️ Спорт
Thanks for doing this interview, Sam, and letting Jay share his truth. I remember him as such a beautiful, elegant junior, and it was sad that he never got chance to share on that on the world stage where it deserved to be seen.
I absolutely love these conversations about growing up as a gymnast and also going through the elite program. Such amazing people. As a coach it gives me a ton of insight on how to Improve as a coach and make those connections with my athletes
Really liked this podacast. Really felt sorry for Jay and what he went through and I'm sure he isn't alone. I think that an episode where you do an in-depth review on all 12 teams would be really nice to actually see how all teams are looking and line-up predictions.
Always love(d) Jay, missed meeting him in person by about 5 minutes TWICE (London and Gold Coast). Great episode, thanks to both of you for sharing!
Also find it absolutely hilarious how unfazed Sam was when jay was describing his elbow injury 😂
A true legend
i used to compete against Jay around 2004 lol i competed for torbay olympic gymnastics club - he used to win every competition by miles lol. I now train as an adult at Exeter. Great pod. Great bloke.
Not trying to call Jay out but my immediate thought is maybe if he had done more fast track he might have prevented the Achilles tear or maybe prolonged the tear. Instead of getting right on to floor training.
