🎙️ In 2021 at the Tokyo Olympic Games Amelie Morgan made history alongside her team mates by winning the first women's team medal in 93 years. She had an outstanding junior career taking five medals at the 2018 junior European championships and three medals at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. Amelie home schooled as a teenager in order to maintain her 35 hour a week training schedule. Balancing her education alongside her gymnastics eventually led to her accepting a full sports scholarship to study and compete for the university of Utah in 2021. In the past week she has announced her retirement from elite gymnastics and subsequently withdrawing herself from the Paris 2024 Olympic selection process. And this is her story 📚

Thanks Sam and Amelie, interesting interview. It's such a shame that Amelie, and the other amazing international gymnasts in NCAA, haven't been able to benefit from the new NIL (Name Image Likeness) rules in NCAA, but especially for Amelie after not being able to reapy the rewards for her 2020 Olympic success. I wondered if taking a 'gap year' after Tokyo to allow herself that time (and time to to rest!) was not an option?

Hey It's great to hear your thoughts and I was equally surprised to hear about the NIL rules in NCAA student athletes from overseas. Great point about taking a gap year and maybe in the future athletes in a similar situation might consider doing this. Thanks for supporting the podcast 😊

Curious if her experiences visiting other countries and living in another one besides the UK has made her sensitive to other cultures and the fact that people come from different, but not "shit hole" labeled places.
