Just stopping by to say that this was super helpful and folks like you make things a heck of a lot easier for those of us in the trenches. Much appreciated, thank you!
Worked perfectly, after I went back and resolved a minor item I missed on the first attempt. A lot of steps here and you have to do them all, so be methodical about it.
GREAT VIDEO !! How do you (in family change the line colour) - would like to save different line types like hot, cold, gas and drainage as sperate families without overriding graphics the whole time
Thank you! To solve this, you'll likely need to set up a graphics override for the specific line type you're working with. Check the filters first to see which line types are involved. For each line type, you'll need to create a separate line type family. Once that’s done, you can either apply a color override to each one, or you could just create the line types in the color you want right from the start. This way, you can save them as distinct line types, making things a bit simpler and clearer.
Hello. Yes, you can but you need to build a separate arc line type with text family and variables to control the arc length and radius. Also, the array needs to be radial instead of lineal.
I see your response to another comment about making a custom curved line with text. " Yes, you can but you need to build a separate arc line type with text family and variables to control the arc length and radius. Also, the array needs to be radial instead of lineal." Do you have any other videos that would explain this process better? thanks
Hi! is there any way to change the line type? e.g. dashed, dot and dash, etc. Right now it's not letting me select anything other than thin, medium, or heavy lines
Hi Hannah, this would need to be done by editing the family. If you open the family, you can go to the Manage Tab > Object Styles. Here you should be able to edit the line type in a question or add a new one if needed. Save the family and then you can reload into the desired project. Hope this helps.
Hi Sir, There is no free downloads for Revit line markers SS and SW like for archhiCad. Therefore, I followed your instructions on the video which was fantastic until I came up to line name array. All the way through I have typed names etc.. in capital letters. When I typed in length - 2 .... and press Apply a message come up with ' the following is not a valid parameter note that parameter names are case sensitive. I have done all different type of typing to see if I could go pass the prompt. I had to stop at this position as I cannot go forward. I would appreciate is if you can direct me to a Revit link or to download line text. Thanks.
Hello. Our suggestion here would be to copy and paste the parameter name where it needs to go in order to ensure that the spelling is identical (including the case sensitivity). If they are not identical it will not correctly align and will cause the error that you mentioned.
@@DigitalDraftingSystems not possible in the family editor... Can't change in the project either since it's not a line style once used in your project file.
@@davidbakke7494 In that case, our answer, would be that at this time we are not familiar with a way to assign a color to the line. Basing this on the idea that this is not a line type, but rather a detail object or family, that also happens to have a line in it with embedded text by use of parameters. If you do find an alternate solution for this, please share it here.
There is no easy way to do this. The reason is that Revit does not have built-in path array functionality. That said, it should be able to accomplish this using Dyano, though that is beyond the scope of this tutorial.
Hi Chris, What error message do you see? It could have to do with increasing text size but without knowing what the error message says it would be a hard diagnosis. If you can provide that we can try to get you an answer.
Hi Chris, I received the same error: "Can't create this kind of element in this view in the current mode." I switched to a Floor Plan (not 3D or a sheet), and then it worked. Also make sure you draw within a view that is not cropped, and also make sure "Detail Items" is turned on under your Model Categories in the Visibility/ Graphics Overrides. These are all things I ran into. Otherwise, everything worked great!! Thank you for this tutorial.

Thank you, People like you are a blessing to the younger generations. Wish you the best.
Mind blown. Such a complicated process for a basic line with text! Genius though - clear instruction, thank you!
Thank you so much for your clear and step by step tutorial. For people like me so easy to confuse about parameters is big win from you.
Best youtube tutorial I have ever seen
Thanks for your kind words!
Beautifully explained. Thank you so much !
Happy to help!
really good explanation & helpful.
Worked perfectly! Thanks for sharing.

Great. I hope you'll post a video on how to incorporate line colors with that. Thanks a lot.
Well explained. It is very useful. ;)
Thanks. This worked precisely as explained.

@@DigitalDraftingSystems great i will try this and thank you for speedy reply!!
This may be late but if you override the visual graphic of the line (EOD). If will change the color and text together. Super helpful!
Thank you sharing, is this posible for curved line as well?
Hello. Yes, you can but you need to build a separate arc line type with text family and variables to control the arc length and radius. Also, the array needs to be radial instead of lineal.
Thanks for the video. I would like to ask it there is any way to set a parameter to adjust the size of text?
Hello. Unfortunately, there is not at this time.

Have not applied it yet I would like to know if I have to make any changes if I chose to use english metric please, Helen revit student.
Hello, there should not be a need to make any specific changes for that case. But if it does not work as expected let us know.

Is there a way to create a line with an arrow direction?
Unfortunately, we do not believe this can be done in this way. But you may have success by creating a leader that uses that line type instead.
Is there a way to assign a color to the line?
Yes, the line styles overrides can be found under Management > Additional Settings > Line Styles.

Is there a way to create a parameter that allows you to control the color of the line and text in Revit 2023?
Hello, we do not believe there is a way to individually do this unless you make each line separate in the line types database.

What about radial lines?
Can you please explain what you mean by Radial? Once we understand that better we would be more than happy to explain further.

Got all the way to “activate dimensions” that prompt never pops up
Found the solution, I neglected to “Group and Associate” when using Array
