I'm surprised how much you didn't like "Eternal Summer" considering how much you enjoy The Voidz. Either way, I'm glad Melon digs this album - I'm loving it. I've been excited about this record for a long time, and The Strokes came through big time - such a great album.

"The adults are talking" is piece of masterpiece . Beautiful album
I could pass on Bad Decisions for the rest of my life, but Eternal Summer... so many reasons to listen.
I liked bad decisions before I realized they were singing bad decisions in the chorus. My fault for not noticing but still
It's actually opposite for me since I don't mind the hook being repetitive and one-note on Bad Decisions, not the best track (I'll take Why Are Sundays So Depressing any time over that track if u told me I had to listen to only one The Strokes track forever) but it's not long-winded in a bad way like Eternal Summer, which the more I listen to it, it's actually not that satisfying for me, I actually feel like it doesn't justify it being 6 minutes.
Julian’s vocal range on this album is on another level like damn
he's still my favorite rock vocalist of all time, singing with the emotion of an old window
I can't believe how he smoked that much, damaged his voice in his earlier career and aged but he still keeps getting better and better in every project.
I know right! Wish the same could be said for Paul Banks.

it just feels like a weird outlier on the album,
His reasoning didn’t really make sense. It’s weird, and sounds link Pink Floyd. Ok why is that a bad thing again?
@@MrDickdog he did also say that it was tedious and i totally see that. I think it would be fine if they cut it down to 3 ish minutes, they just don't expand enough on the song in the 6 minutes imo. Also he said it sounds like bad pink Floyd, although i do disagree about it being bad
Ode to the mets is just amazingly beautiful. every line, every instrument just fits perfectly and i freakin love it

Jose M. C. Lopez same. One Way Trigger and Welcome to Japan are bops.
Kind of a pop breathe in a rock universe
As someone who's been a fan of the strokes for a long time, i probably revisit comedown the most. It's super peppy and I love the variation of sound from track to track. Welcome to Japan is funky as hell, One Way Trigger is an electronic bop, 80s Comedown has got that blissful depression vibe, and Call It Fate Call It Karma sounds like being on ambien
Hey theneedledrop, I remember seeing a quick explanation from the Stokes about 'Eternal Summer' and they did say Ruben asked them to just start playing something and they randomly came up with that on the fly, so I can understand it not being completely polished, but I really like it's honest-raw approach to songwriting and exploration.
At The Door is so good, especially the second chorus with Julian singing his lungs out
The chorus reminds me of "Nice Dream" by Radiohead. A lot of the songs take influence from them (in a good way).
@@Benjerama oh for sure. There were plenty of points where I could definitely hear Julian sounding a lot like Thom Yorke, parti the falsetto. Glad someone else noticed. Freezing cold take on Endless Summer (It's one of the best songs on the album) but otherwise a great review 👍
When I first listened to the new album their were 3 songs I didn't particularly like. Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus, Why are Sundays so depressing, and eternal summer. But I kept listening to them and the more I listened to them the more I enjoyed and appreciated them. The entire album grew on me the more I listened which is usually not the case for me. I tend to get tired of songs in a week or so if I consistently listen to them all the time but these only got better and better. I don't know how they pulled this one off
every strokes album is like that. the appreciation grows with listening.
But "Eternal Summer" is so good Anthony. It's like their best attempt at a Voidz song with some Sandinista-Clash influence here and there.

there is a lot of "meta" lyrics in the lp like first when julian says "break" and "can we switch into the chorus" in brooklyn bridge to chorus, but also in at the door with "struck me like a chord" and finally which "drums please fab" in ode to the mets. i can't remember witch song but i think i remember an older strokes' one with the same kind of lyrics...

Anyways great album great review my opinion more of a light 9 now
Still early in the year but this is a serious contender to AOTY
Anthony, holding a belt and screaming “the adult is talking! the adult is talking!” at the band for ten minutes then giving their record a 0 is not a review.
this man thinks call it fate, call it karma is garbage but likes Julian’s falsetto here? ok MELON
Yeah. Because here Julian's voice sounds miles better, while Call it fate barely even qualifies as a real song.
Dude has clearly worked on the falsetto these past 7 years, it sounds super clean on The Adults Are Talking specifically
Julian's falsetto has improved a lot
Lets be honest here, CM is an okay album. Can’t deny they did the album just to fulfill their contractual obligations. Julian’s falsetto in call it fate is meh at best, and his vocal performances here are way better than on Angles and CM
Call it fate gives me massive BO2 Zombies transit loading screen music vibes

To those wondering about the lack of a yellow flannel, here’s my personal take: it seems like Fantano already figured plenty of people had made up their opinion on the record, or were already gonna click on the review immediately that he didn’t feel the need to wear the yellow flannel. I sense that he usually wears it for reviews of records or artists that wouldn’t normally get a ton of attention and the Strokes are nowhere near that kind of band. Plenty of non-subscribers are gonna be visiting this video purely because it’s about the Strokes and not because of a flannel color.
Or maybe he just returned from a jog where he finalized his thoughts and began recording.
My theory is that since he gave it a Strong 7 to a Light 8, he wasn't sure if he was gonna give it the first or the latter until the editing
He should unzip his jacket and boom, yellow flannel!
It's just that he doesn't wear the flannel for "strong 7 to light 8" reviews, it's not the first time he's done this. Like Brockhampton's Ginger last year.
He does wear the flannels in records that get a lot of attention regardeless of his opinion on them, like Igor, When we all fall sleep, Scorpio, Kamikaze and a bunch of others, so I dont think thats the general rule.
Anyone else notice ‘Ode to the Mets’ has the same chord progression as ‘Sofia’ by Clairo?
YES!!!!
I literally just realized- I was wondering what Sofia sounded so much like
I mean it's just a IV VII V I which isn't that uncommon
Very nice sounding progression
Justice for Eternal Summer
The strokes only got an 8 because they gave Anthony a stroke or two
Makes up for the absolutely abysmal pitchfork review
This is arguably my favorite album through and through. I can listen to every song without any big issues which I cant say the same for other albums. Im sick of the constant comparison to "Is This It" and if an album isnt similar to it then its no good. Everything The Strokes has done has slowly evolved naturally to where we are now. The Strokes have clearly moved past the garage band sounding stage and into something thats still the strokes, but elevated in a unique way.
Comedown machine is actually a solid album too.
I love Eternal Summer honestly. About a month ago me and my friends went on a camping trip and while we giving on a music sesh I played the song. Nobody else was familiar with the band and nobody commented on it when I played it. However, I caught everybody humming it on separate different occasions. I really think it's a great track, and I love the Pink Floyd vibes personally.
