    Thanks Derek, fantastic breakdown of these two product lines!
    I just took my new 7’3” MH Victory out on the water for the first time today. I flipped 5/16 Texas Rig and was very impressed. I had no problems detecting all my bites, and its a blast to fish with. I really liked how it loads up on fish.
    Thanks for all your recommendations!

    2 Questions!
    1. Would you recommend the Victory for inshore fishing? I am in the Texas gulf coast area. Usually fish for Speckled trout, Flounder, Redfish, etc.
    2, If so, should I purchase the medium or medium heavy? I have a Penn Battle 3 that I am pairing it with.
    Thanks, & keep up the great work!

    The Extremes aren't the lightest rods out there. A tad tip heavy. But they are very sensitive and Tough! I mainly use these rods for musky and pike fishing. Easily throw lures at the top end of the max lure rating. The 7'4'' is a workhorse. It's mainly my frog rod but I throw swimbaits for musky with this. 50lb Braid, nothing can escape. The 7' medium 5/8 max lure weight rod, I love to toss a Mepps Aglia #5 for pike. Plenty of power to drive the hooks deep!

    You didn't mention that the grips on the Extreme are actually part of the blank, not added later line most rods. That process takes many hours...... hence the price. Another reason they came up with the Victory was the drop in sales for their $600 rods. Not many guys buy those.

    Derek, have you had an opportunity to fish the Legend Tournament Bass compared to the Victory? Wondering if the LTB is more sensitive/better feedback than the Victory line of rods?? I really like the look of the LTB, but wonder if it truly is a step up over the Victory line of rods.

    • @FatJeffStew
      @FatJeffStew Год назад +1

      10 months late here -- but I hate the spinning Victory series. I didn't think they were nearly as sensitive as my cheaper rods. Handled fish great, but they were fragile rods. I broke 3 Victory series on the tips before I said screw it and upgraded to the LTB.
      IMO the LTB and Victory aren't even remotely comparable rods. LTB is light years ahead of the Victory. I can't comment on the casting rods though of either lineup yet,

    • @nawinchester
      @nawinchester Год назад +1

      @@FatJeffStew I've heard the very same feedback from many people about the overall quality of the victory line of rods. I fished one of the more popular models and it just felt like a dead stick in my hands. Super parabolic which would have made it a decent finesse crankbait rod but from a sensitivity standpoint it was garbage. I've been thinking about the legend tournament bass series as an option for me to try and I just wanted to hear feedback from people who have fished it in terms of the sensitivity of that line of rods compared to others brands in that same price point.

    • @FatJeffStew
      @FatJeffStew Год назад

      @@nawinchester I went from a 7'3" ML XF Victory to the equivalent LTB model and its still decently parabolic (is is a ML though and it has backbone once you get through the bend), but I can feel a lot more.
      Went from a 6' 8" M XF AvidX to the equivalent LTB model and that rod is absolutely nutty on sensitivity. Throwing swimbaits up into a dam wall with current and slack in the line and was still able to feel sauger/walleye pick it up.
      Planning on upgrade my casting Mojobass to probably the LTB Warhorse model this year too.

    Honestly, St Croix are probably the best rods you can spend your money on in every price category. I don’t have the budget for the extreme series but I have a few triumphs a bass x,mojo bass, premier and soon to be victory rod and can say they’re all great and every price point family has a rod that will fit your fishing style. Fit and finish at any price compared to similarly priced rods from other companies just can’t compare.

    I have a Victory and the old Legend Xtreme. The Victory is great, but the Legend Xtreme is clearly superior. You said the Victory is a step down from the new version of the Legend Xtreme. Where would you put the Legend Tournament and Legend Elite series since they're at least marketed and priced between the two rods you mentioned.

  • @rapalaman6681

    The Xtreme is NOT a light rod. It feels light because of the heavier than usual handle giving the rod a balance point closer to to the reel seat. This balance is back inches compared to say a St. Croix Elite. Rods with rearward balance points always feel lighter as a general rule even if they are not. Loomis Edge rods are all built this way also. Because of the Xtreme's additional weight may hinder the sensitivity. If you were to weigh a Loomis NRX+ compared to a Extreme you would find OUNCES of a difference. I am not saying the Extreme is not of the same quality or subpar just that it's overall weight makes it actually heavier than the average rod. I would bet the Victory weighs considerably less than the Xtreme.

    The Saint Croix rods are probably the best rods made all over the world nowadays. But !! The explications, dear Derek, you gave us could be sooo better and most of all, they could be truer !! There will never have rod guides which will make a rod 200 bucks more expensive ! Carbon fibers can't be soldered and/or agglomerated with carbone fibers : You can't make a rod blank without resins ! R&D makes a fishing rod expensive, high end carbon tissue make a fishing rod expensive, but NOTHING explains a 600 dollars rpice point for a freshwater rod !! Oh yes !! Marketing can do this ;)

    • @derekhudnall3227
      @derekhudnall3227  2 года назад

      Your comment made me research more, you are correct. The weight difference is in the handle. The cork handle on the Victory is what makes it a bit lighter. Even though the energy transfer is significantly less in cork, it’s what makes it lighter
