  • Judo combination: tani otoshi fake to okuri ashi barai
The classic misdirection of fake turn throw into tani is referred to many in the Judo world as "the switch." The foot sweep is there after the opponent anticipates the switch and retreats. I attack the opponent's left leg in this video but depending on the reaction (how far the uke retreats/with which leg), you can attack the other leg too.

The guy sweeping in the background is training his footwork

Before you can throw, you must sweep ! Literally ! Props to the guy in the back

Love it. The 5 dislikes must be from people who got tossed with it right after you uploaded this

I'm going to try it today in judo
Edit: it worked against people on my level (beginners) the belt above (yellow belt).

The science of off balancing your opponent in judo feels me with awe every time, man.

Wow, good move. Looks like it would work well on a taller opponent.

My Sensei would use that set up and angle for his lapel side okuri ashi barai and just floor me. I'd get laid out horizontal and bam. It was beautiful. He would really pull up on the lapel and you couldn't see it coming. brutal.

This may be a big ask, but I really love ashi guruma - could you possibly do a video on it? It's one of those throws that folks don't seem to teach much.

I am not sure if this works if uke has both feet stable in the ground as seen here. Usually, any harai requires one 'unweighted' foot to work. A stable foot simply blocks the sweeping. It may work if Uke is lighter and you can lift him/her up with your hands a little bit. Thoughts?

Exactly, catch them after the fake when they are unstable. That’s the point.

Hi master, what's difference between okuri ashi barai and okuri ashi harai, and de ashi barai and de ashi harai?

There is no difference. Translation from kanji to English alphabet isn't always perfect. B and h are interchangeable. Same with k and g in katame or gatame.

Okuri ashi Barai sweeps both feet while de ashi barai sweeps one(the lead foot typically)
