I'VE been watching your videos for a short time now and I'm always impressed at how you explain the techniques. That was some excellent "slo mo" (slow motion). Keep up the good work . I will continue to watch.
This move is so satasfying. The drop is so smooth if you know how to do it, and after your opponent is down you can do an arm bar, a crucifix and much more...
The slow motion is really helpful! Thanks for the clear analysis of technique. Wish I had a teacher who explained things so clearly back when I was training. Are you training people now in person or just online?
We were just learning these moves in class last week. Any chance you do a video on the diference between harai goshi, o guruma and ashi guruma? They look similar and looks like even you mixed them up too 😂 (although you did recognize ashi guruma). P. S. Thanks for the videos. Been very useful watching them.
for all intents and practical purposes at our (probably) non-professional level, they are basically the same, ashi guruma is your foot at the bottom of ukes leg, near the ankle, harai is just below his knee and o guruma is your sweeping leg at his hip level,
How did you get 8 down votes lol Thats crazy I'm a karate guy and enjoyed the crap out of this video I really like how you get your calf on the outside of his knee and the camera work showed details like that very clearly great work sir OSU.
To me the slowmo at the beginning and the throw at the end was Harai Goshi. (No Hane Goshi anywhere...). Most other were short Ashi Guruma Versions. To me the Harai Goshi leg pushes the outer leg a little back, then is a pivioting point for ukes weight resting partly on it. The intial bump to lift uke stems from the mittle of his tigh. Ashi Guruma is a barrage in the air for a te waza (no weight resting on it, altough the pivot is much more obvious). Often comes in play when uke tries to jump around a harai goshi or tai otoshi. Wich you can encourage with one sidestep with him right before the entry.
Could you demonstrate harai goshi with a cross collar choke entry? We use that attack quite a bit in the aiki jujitsu school I attend. Ie we enter a standing cross collar choke and then Harai goshi. A number of our kata counter that. I would love to see you explain the addition of the choke. Thanks!
I do Jui Jitsu (year and a Half) it's a throw I've been constantly practicing on...so far I've gotten lucky with it twice ... The second time, I did it to a purple belt felt great that I got the throw but I ended up in his Guard some how 😂😂
Mr shintaro higashi, please I would be participating in a Judo national festival/competition next year march precisely March 2020 in Nigeria, I just want your word of advice and wisdom on what to be doing the most or what to do to win a gold medal,or silver and bronze medals,I fight in the 73kg division and its a very tough category,I download all your videos daily, so what can I do to achieve success, I didn't do well in my last trail also
Whould you please show a tgrow that go's when you get a grabbed from the backor the side and you grab that hand under yuor urmpit pull and do a step/sweep under the opponent.. Or if you did allredy talked about this one give me a link on it please -whould really appteciate...
I don't understand why this is the only online video in the whole Internet were the GOSHI, from 'hara' goshi', is considered as a part of the explanation. I will base my harai goshi in this one. The rest of the videos only consider the sweep, the 'harai'.
You've emphasised obtaining the dominant position for Harai. But probably a newbie question, but what should you do if do if you have the inferior position? Are there throws that are more "preferable' from an inferior position. I know the answer is probably don't let the opponent get the dominant position, but as you know that sometimes isn't possible or you've slipped up and you have to work from there.
Great stuff! love your videos. At the end you said some might call it Hane Goshi and they might but they would be wrong, you would be right. Your leg is still sweeping i.e. Harai Hane requires a more exaggerated bend/spring/lift from the support leg, also in Hane the throwing leg is bent to create a hip to knee platform that bounces Uke up then a strong kake rotation to unload. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, going to try to pass this stuff on to our students. Ji Ta Kyo Ei
If this is harai goshi what is the version (no gi) where you have under and overhook, you finish the same except you don't swing the leg? Like you just put your leg down and trip them over it? I don't know what it's called but i see it in mma all the time. Olympic judoka and soon to be PFL world champion mma lightweight, kayla Harrison uses it.
@@larsjrgensen9984 Yep! That was it. Even found a video showing it perfectly like I explained. ruclips.net/video/5XaTZ6nS4iY/видео.html Also PS. Kayla is now two time gold Olympic champ in judo, and womens lightweight world champ in mma, PFL.
@@larsjrgensen9984 it's my favorite takedown when I'm pummeling. Judo and Greco man. That's what I'm starting next month. It'll improve my mma clinch game I think.
@@rye-bread5236 I am certain it will. You may also want to take a look at Kouchi gari and Ouchi gari for when you're clinching close to the net. Not that I'm an expert by any means, but they seem useful for those situations.
@@larsjrgensen9984 I have no idea what those names mean. I know seoi nage and uchi mata. Or as in wrestling we call it hook leg throw and shoulder throw. I'll check them out. As a wrestler and bjj practioner I've always admired judo.
In my opinion 1:50 leans more towards O Guruma/Ashi Guruma and perhaps a version of Tai Otoshi. But anyway, a very informative presentation, thanks for sharing! 🙂
There are a few. In Tai otoshi your lower leg gives his lower leg a little push right above it's foot. It there is leg contact at all. Tai otoshi is a standing barrage on the ground, like ashi guruma is in the air. The tai otoshi position when stretching the leg mainly is a power source for your grip standing sideways to him. On migi t.o. your right elbow could rest in his left armpit like in some tsuri goshi versions - to feel this priniple very clear.
technically they're two very different thows, if you want to get all traditional tai otoshi is 'te-waza' which means 'hand techniques' that means the throw is all in your hands, and it is, your (blocking) leg, is only their to *block their leg from stepping over, their is leg/leg contact and a bit of a 'bump' midthrow but the whole throw happens in the hands, whereas in harai goshi is 'koshi-waza' or 'hip techniques' you actually are lifting the guy onto your hip to throw him and the leg sweeps up to block a high step around, but realy, he should be on your hip
the slow motion at the beginning is really helpful
Excellent instruction, clarifications, clear understanding, but most of all high quality and consistency as always. Thank you mentor
I LOVE that uchi-mata style setup for harai - any time you can make someone stand on one leg, that's a fantastic time to put them through the floor!
Magic!!!! One of the most beautiful throws in judo.

My favorite throw since about 37 year´s. It work´s :-) For example when you clinch in Muai Thay as a devot surprise ^^ NICCCE 1:03

Second variation on RvR is a like a high Tai-O.
4:15 - dominant position first
Can someone explain to me what that is?
Usually when he says "dominant position" both partners have a collar grip, but whoever has the higher grip is more "dominant"

can you do this harai without using gia applicable in street fight
Yes, use underhook!
for no gi harai or uchi mata to harai, do you suggest using a wizzer or underhook?
How does one even perform these techniques with an underhook? Wouldnt that turn out to be more lika O-goshi or Uki-goshi?

I'm also a newbie, however if you are in inferior position since whatsoever reason, you should focus on escaping
Or else you could focus on opponents move and prepare a counter
If they have their right hand over your collar you can learn to time the entry and turn into the throw left to right.

whats the difference between harai goshi and hane goshi??
シンタロー先生、日本語でも解説やってほしい笑🐱
Isn’t the lower calf style harai goshi in this vid basically a tai otoshi? Love the vids man, thanks
I think that is called ashi guruma. Tai o toshi keeps the foot on the ground. Ashi guruma with a high leg above the knees is called o guruma.
I think for a guruma you just step with left leg next to right and fast rotate , its similar but not the same . This is rotational harai goshi
Tai otoshi - you block the foot.
Harai goshi - you reap the foot.
Media cadera. 😎

Yes sometimes. especially when i go train over there. But havent in a few years.
