  • Are you aware of the many funny differences between Canadians and Americans? Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE our Canadian friends, but the truth is we are hilariously different! These are 25 funny differences between Canadians and Americans.
    Being different is not a bad thing. But it’s still interesting to see just how different two neighboring countries can be. Check out these funny difference between Canadians and Americans (and our photo credits and sources) and don’t forget to leave a comment on the video letting us know of any other differences you guys are aware of:

    When we said Canadians and Americans were different, we were not joking. For example, did you know Canada has two official languages (English and French)? Guess how many official languages America has. If you enjoy Pandora and Spotify, don’t go to Canada. Licensing restrictions will prevent you from enjoying them. Also, Americans are more confrontational than Canadians. Again, these differences are not necessarily a bad thing, just a different way of viewing things such as government. Canadians tend to trust their government more than Americans trust theirs (then again, can you blame us). Get ready because we are about to share with you 25 funny differences between Canadians and Americans.

    • @JakeSkellington1
      @JakeSkellington1 7 лет назад +12

      Hot Cosby yeah, the power should be in the people, not a government. power goes to peoples heads and that's why there are so many corrupt people in them. if the people don't take control, we get things like "gun bans" and other things to control the freedom of the people. recently with what's going on in the government freedom has turned into an illusion. it's a hard thing to balance but governments and countries will end up collapsing on themselves due to power struggles.

      Prepperjon... easy... the companies (in the US) that produce their product in 2litre bottles, its because they also export out of the US. As far as their exports go, the quantity staying within the US is the minority. So, the American companies choose to not have an “American size” gallon containers and an “everywhere else” litre containers, forcing Americans to get a taste of the rest of the worlds perspective...
      (Oddly, for me, I use both metric and imperial... I read a tape measure in feet and inches, Im 6’2”, I have no clue how many metres or centimetres or millimetres tall I am!
      In Canadian football, its measured in yards, not metres, just like NFL. )

    • @bhg123ful
      @bhg123ful 5 лет назад +1

      Go deeper man. He covered that in the very first point. "Canadians tend to trust authority, Americans tend to be suspicious of it." Government being in control of health care and regulating firearms are manifestations of being suspicious of authority. Personality, and I say this as an American, I think they take it to a bit of a paranoid extreme, and support left of center policy, but this is the root of the difference.

    • @adonisauriferi1500
      @adonisauriferi1500 5 лет назад

      That wasn't necessarily forgotten. health care and gun control are heavy leftist policies and I believe he did say that they lean farther to the the left. Also that they trust their government more, which is also a liberal thing as left wing typically desires more government control. In America, gun control would be a terrible thing, but in Canada the people are nicer and the only danger is polar bears, which I've heard guns don't work well on them

    "Mayonnaise on everything.....Canadians, they live among us".....LOL, we can't joke all day until the sun goes down, but I couldn't think of better neighbors than the Canadians. We Americans benefit in so many ways from our Canadian brethren, probably more than they do from us. Most millennials probably couldn't tell you what NORAD is, or where most of the lumber to build American homes comes from. Canada bent over backwards on 911 to help get all our aircraft on the ground, and took care of our stranded citizens. The US-Canada border is only an imaginary line on the map the whole world should be jealous of.

Canada is a mosaic of cultures, but they aren't separated, they are mixed in many different ways, but are also celebrated as individual. also, individuality is highly celebrated, but there is simply not as much of an emphasis on it. I do not know what its like in america, but i'm sure many of the same things can be said. One final thing, canadians don't talk about american politics as a pastime, we use it as the but of our jokes. ; ) :) ;)

The "Mosaic" which isn't actually a very common term, is a much more shared principle. When someone who is Chinese comes to Canada, they aren't expected to live the 'American Dream', they are more than welcome to live by their culture, without conforming to the average Canadian.

      British war aims in war of 1812:
      1. End US trade with France for the duration of the Napoleonic wars, Acheived
      2. Establish and support a blocking state of American Indian tribes to block US westward expansion. Failed.
      US war aims:
      1. End impressment of US citizens for service in British warships. Achieved.
      2. Defeat the blocking state plan of the British, clear way for westward expansion. Achieved
      British campaigns:
      Blockade. Indecisive
      Invasions of east coast of US. Indecisive.
      Invasions and Great Lakes naval battles in north US. Failed
      Invasions from Gulf of Mexico particularly in support of goal 2: Failed disastrously.
      Defense of Canada: Successful.
      Note that the crisis in the British offensives came during a lull in the Napoleonic wars, when the British could, and did, send great numbers of their Napoleonic war vets across the pond.
      US Campaigns:
      Tried to invade Canada to use as a bargaining chip with Britain. Failed decisively.
      Run blockade and challenge Britain at sea: Success limited by size of fleet, but more successful than not.
      Defenses on various fronts against British and Indian land campaigns. Mostly successful.
      The British were brought back to the negotiating table at least partly by a reheating of the situation in continental Europe, of course.
      The invasion of Canada, of course, looms larger in the Canadian consciousness than is really warranted. The invasion was not a US war aim, but a strategy. Such was the US attitude toward GB at the time that they naively expected opposition only from British regulars, and SUPPORT from the Canadian citizenry. They miscalculated Canadian sentiment more than the military situation.

      You would think that Americans, especially educated Americans, would like to show the world that knowing stuff is cool, after all, they invented nuclear war (with the help of Nazi scientists). But that's rarely what they do. Instead, they freely admit that they're stupid, and they're proud of it, which of course, is Trump explained. If it doesn't directly affect them, then they don't care. But it's not just Canada they ignore. Ask an average American any question about their own country, and probably 95% of them will fail to answer correctly. Unfortunately, Canadians like to follow American trends. I fear the stupid trend could be spreading across the Great White North.

    I am Australian and yeah. There is a huge difference between Canada and the US. Canada to us is our equal. We have a lot in common, the US on the other hand is almost our opposite. Canada is a cold Australia while the US is what we don't want to become.
    Here are some facts on Canada that everyone in Australia knows. They have the same free healthcare as Australia but it isn't as good as the NHS in the UK, Canada is in the Commonwealth of nations, Canadian French has a different accent to French, Quebec was made because of a peace treaty between France and the UK (saying they are Canada's Texas is very incorrect, it's more like it's the UK's Ireland) and Canada has open borders to refugee's because it is vastly underpopulated.
    Oh, and long live the Queen of Canada. (say hi to Quebec for me)

    In Canada, most people vote for an individual, not a party. Even when a politician "crosses the floor" (aka, joins a different political party) most of their supporters go with them.
    Also, if any politian does something we don't agree with, we call them out on it, even if we voted for them. We never excuse bad behavior just because we identify with a certain politial party.
    Obviously, there have always been exceptions to that rule. Worryingly, there are a lot more exceptions these days.

      Yeah, no. Americans and Brits are very different. and Canada is kind of mostly british but kind ofAmerican as well. We have the accent in common, and we have a deep love of fried foods (mmmm poutine) but our government is much, much closer to the British system, and our Social reforms are different, or at least come faster than Americans.

      Hey ignoramus, a metaphor is:
      a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
      Quebec literally did vote on separation which was narrowly defeated. Also, unlike Texas, which is largely English speaking, Quebec is largely French speaking with a different culture than the rest of the country. There is zero comparison between Texas and the U.S. with Quebec and Canada.

      I think one thing Canadians love about the US is that half the country has mild or actually warm winters, and those Southern states are more than happy for Canadians to come for the winter. I think my assumption is correct, but I live in Illinois, and most of the time I lived in Chicago suburbs(brrr!). I'm happy Canadians will finally be allowed to visit US starting tomorrow 11/8. Concerning COVID, they're probably safer to be around than other Americans.

    You're definition of our "Mosaic Mentality" isn't quite right. The mosaic isn't so much that different immigrant cultures stick with their own kind; though that IS a part of it. It's better defined as immigrant cultures being ENCOURAGED to bring their traditions and languages to Canada and share them. I'm in Calgary. During the year there are dozens of cultural festivals and you'll find Greeks at Chinese New Year, Pakistanis at Carifest and Koreans at The Highland Games. Obviously we have our share of ignorant bigots too but for the most part, we're quite happy to all live together and share cultures.

    • @lemondude6174
      @lemondude6174 7 лет назад

      Roberta Kehler I would argue that this is encouraged in certain cultural havens in the US as well. I live in one of the most diverse areas in the US; it is incredible the wide range of cultures there. Just because Trump is president doesn't change the fact that the US (or at least some vicinities within it) is demographically shifting to a global melting pot of cultures, and I really enjoy how well all the cultures assimilate into society here.
