This is the proper way to market a product. So you can let people see the engineering involved in making it. JL's been making subs for a very long time and they are the best at SQ.
rguil15 Sorry to disappoint, but we're based in California and have a second location in Kentucky. Both have warehouses, no basements. (that I know of.)
I've been a huge fan of JL subs since the early 90's. I've never been disappointed by any of the one's I've purchased over the years... BigDWiz - OldSchoolStereo-com
I like the shallow woofer,I want to get one in the future when I buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee and take the system up with this woofer and focal ktp 6.5 in front stage and pc 165 coaxial in rear and maybe Oeq 2 Rockford fosgate 10 band parametric eq to tune.So this is in my near future .I have classic Rockford amps punch 45 he,power 300 ,punch 150 with fan shroud,Old school but those amps are Soo dependable.I enjoy your u tube site.
599$ lmmfao! Its just a 600rms woofer ppl... No matter how its made its still just a subwoofer that will blow someday and its non reconeable Like all JL BULLSHIT . I have a w7 collecting dust right now
I know that he has his reasons for cutting up that sub but seeing it cutting wow is I don't know what to say, especially for someone that can't afford to buy it
Alot of JL fans I see posting and yet no one noticed that JL changed the basket on this driver? Look at the back view when Seth is taking it apart. The basket is normally more like a spoke style where every window is cut out. Not this one? I own a 13tw5 and it's a good driver. Little under motored. Really wish JL spent the money for a neodymium magnet to cut some weight and give this driver what it really needs.
Tinsel leads to the voice coil are very very thin and delicate on this design. Don't clip your amp... you will heat up the sub, cause some cone meltage, cause some glue burning, separating that thin tinsel lead...the damage will go unnoticed while your ambient temps are in the 70's and above...but below that, the sub will not play properly or only sometimes will play. Then you'll need to spend another $200 for a recone job. Like me.
Do you know if the Stealthbox for the 2nd gen scion tc coes with an amp or do I have to buy one? If so what amp would you recommend. Please help need to purchase soon
Ok and they cost 500$ for a magnet plastic and an a woofer basket? I like jl audio a lot but fuck that 500 bucks really? That is fucking bullshit they don't need to charge that much, probabaly cost like 20$ for them to build it. Just like W7 way over priced
The magnet is pricey. You are also pay for the RnR. I had a friend that worked for Bose for a few years. You are right that speakers have a high profit margin. Especially for so called factory prem systems w $10-$15 paper speakers that the manuf buys them at.
This is a v2 the v1 had the basket you're thinking of. Neo is too expensive a lot of home audio drivers with neo magnets have doubled in price over the past year or two. I'd rather see them use something similar to Image Dynamics high roll surround to maximize surface area. From what I heard they are actually suspension limited not motor limited.
does anything that is retailed at the price it costs to make? cable, wiring, amplifiers? Theres also engineering that goes into their products, instead of like some companies who just "copy" other companies, and they need a paycheck
que tengo que a ser para que me regalen un subwoofer de esos ya que santa claus esta bien pobre como podré aserle para que me regalaron un par de esos jl audio tw5
That's what happens when you buy subs w/ your eyes. Audiophiles who buy JL use our ears but man those Xplodes sure do have a pretty red and there only $63 at Walmart. I'll just keep banging my invisible TW5 w/ 4 people in my truck laughing while they search for all those subs.

Yes they are. This shallow mount sub is truly amazing.
Thats one of THE best subs I have ever heard playing from a sealed box.
You are right. We actually confirmed with JL after we uploaded the video that it wasn't a neo magent.
Thank you for this teardown.
rguil15 Sorry to disappoint, but we're based in California and have a second location in Kentucky. Both have warehouses, no basements. (that I know of.)
This video made my heart shatter ..
I've had this sub for nearly 4 years, powered by an alpine pdx600.1. Its an amazing woofer. I cried a little inside when he started cutting it.

I bet that huge voice coil helps a lot with stability of the cone
Its a good looking sub, i'm saying there sub does not take $600 build, but that jl audio logo makes it $600. I bet it takes less then $100 to build.
Research and Development is expensive so they get some of that back through their pricing. It's not just about the cost of materials
You betcha!
We know! A 7" voice coil. Truly redefining shallow mount subs

Nice. Huge VC
It is a 13.5" subwoofer
haha, he was calling you a monster for cutting into the sub. Good vid by the way. Love the look of these shallow subs
I know that he has his reasons for cutting up that sub but seeing it cutting wow is I don't know what to say, especially for someone that can't afford to buy it

How much does the sub cost ?
Ah! The subwoofer carnage!
Man how can you do that to such a beautiful thing? :(
Weird, I always envisioned Sonic Electronic to be a few Chinese guys working in a basement below a warehouse somewhere.
Dat voice coil though.
Sad, we know. But we did it for you guys. :/
Oh my... :'(
You destroyed such a beautiful subwoofer. I guess it's for a good cause, but I'm still crying a bit over here :(
i have been waiting to get 4 10" from the factory sense December and they still have not shipped!
Do you know if the Stealthbox for the 2nd gen scion tc coes with an amp or do I have to buy one? If so what amp would you recommend. Please help need to purchase soon
Dang Seth, you need a cordless brother! Lol
Is that a 12 or a 15 i cant really tell

Same here fuck this sub
does anything that is retailed at the price it costs to make? cable, wiring, amplifiers? Theres also engineering that goes into their products, instead of like some companies who just "copy" other companies, and they need a paycheck
maybe trash to YOUR eyes but good thing speakers are for the ears...
Oh that hurt soooo bad.
what you gonna do with that sub. can i have it?
que tengo que a ser para que me regalen un subwoofer de esos ya que santa claus esta bien pobre como podré aserle para que me regalaron un par de esos jl audio tw5
Not exactly sure how shallow mount construction differs from traditional speakers, but no CA glue on the mag/motor structure=bad time in my book.
I guess you're doctor subwoofer.
Geese, I could inlet dream about purchasing this sub, and I see it get cut up like nothing
Ouch thats hurt :'(
This last me three months .. :(
I have to buy a new one
Don't you want to see inside of the stuff you wanna buy? Cutting up that woofer does nothing to sonicelectronix's economy, but increase.
you can put these in doors but, the problem is you have to reshape it
ahhh u monster
These subwoofers must not cost shit to make them he cut it open like nothing but they cost 650$ or more
cut open a smd 18
You look like Simon from Inbetweeners
poor baby :(
ok
:( This video is torture to watch....taking such a nice subwoofer and destroying it....i would totally take that off your hands before you destroy it
W7 collecting dust...Wanna sell it to me? I'll give ya $50 and pay for shipping :D
and off to the subwoofer graveyard :(
Noooooooooooo por favor Noooooooooooo lo rompas regalamelo por favor si noooooooooooooooooooo😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That was painful to watch man lol
Be a bit gentle
Weird
Makes me cringe to see this baby be mutilated like this but also cool to see whats inside.
Meh
Dose not take $600 to build but once they put the jl audio logo on it WOOOOW it is $600..... Trash in my eyes
Trenton long clearly your eyes are not well trained then. Coz if you knew wtf you were looking at, you'd know that this is an amazing piece of tech.
