Ah, I see now. Looking at your videos it's pretty clear who you are. Honestly, I hope you find happiness. My wife and I have a wonderful relationship full of laughter and joy. Nothing you can say will ever make me feel bad about that, and I wish the same for you in your life.
Was not expecting that ending but well said. There are times when I want to buy something heritage but I'm just like, "nah, next time" and I'll go out with my friend and try a new restaurant and after dinner cocktails. It'd be a an awesome night!

On my deathbed I'm pretty sure I'll be thinking of my loved ones and what they are going to do with my boots and leather jackets. Also, the shot with the ruminative Carl smokin' the cigar was worthy of Godfather IV.
Love the cigar shot and the joyous throwing leaves and cider shot. Careful Carl you're treading dangerously close to the poetic. Anyway, good video Carl!
Really well done and honest review. Ordered my dark brown maryam pair back in august, hopefully they won't take too long to get here! You gained a subscriber for the message at the end.
Good perspective, and a great new pair of boots. I'm still using the plastic produce bags on my red wing engineers nearly a year into it. One boot (or foot) is always harder than the other, lol. Worth the trouble! Especially since they won't be making Red Wing Engineers in the future.
i'm glad i got to try on my first pair of engineers by lucking out that was a john lofgren pop up on my last day in tokyo was definitely nervous about the overly tight shaft issue but fit me perfect. looking forward to adding more to my collection . seeing more your reviews on the various brands
I recently got my first ever pair of PNW boots (it's my third pair of boots) and wearing them for the first time make me super anxious. One of my foot are scraped, the other was swollen after a half day of breaking it in. Just listening to you having difficulties with your own new boots encourage me to continue the break in process. Also, kapak means axe in Indonesia, you pronounce the ka as in ka-mikaze, pak as in pak-istan.
I find pull on boots to be very touchy to fit, I bought the Thorogood Mac toe Wellington to have a quick pull on boot for the call mud conditions in winter, I ordered them in the same 8.5 D that my other Thorogood, all lace ups. But they were too tight, numb toes and a painful arch so back they went. Then I remembered my long discontinued Weinbrenner Chelsea boots, same problem. I burrowed through the closet and found them and they were similarly tight. I went through 4 footbeds and actually found one that allowed me to wear them. I really wanted a not too expensive, high shaft boot for winter so I re-ordered them in a EE width and while better they were still a bit tight but wearable and I'm hoping in time that the arch area will stretch a little. One issue is that as I walk my socks tend to be pulled down under my arch so I don't have any pull on boots on my wish list. I will attempt to swap some different footbeds
Carl, In the cowboy boot world we stretch every day. We spray with Angelus stretch spray, then stretch the shaft with a combo stretcher. You can also use cuñas (shims). Its best to make the boot tight if the customer is local, and then stretch accordingly. I'd call that a fair price for that caliber boot. Ladd
I had the exact problem when I had MTM Engineers from Benzein. Great boots but couldn’t get them on, the shaft was too narrow for the top of my foot to get in. I found a buyer in the states for what I paid fortunately.
Wow Carl. I bought the other pair - the 43.5 - with vamps cut from the shell. Both pairs were in Stitchdown boots of the week. Fits big but manageable - Adi said I’d be fine (I’m 9.5D in Nicks and 10D in RW) No issues getting my boots on, but still hard to get off - more issue with the right foot but getting easier.
When I bought mine I got them on then they got stuck on my feet. It took both me and my brother the better part of 15 mins per boot to get them off. I was scared I would end up having to cut them off.
To be fair though, nobody on their deathbed ever said, “I wish I hadn’t bought these badass boots”. You got me on “masculine feet” by the way, classic!
A new pair of Franks boots arrived yesterday. My wife drew diagrams around my feet with light wool socks and we calibrated that as best we could and ordered some off-the-rack work boots from Franks. The new ones are way too long and the heels are loose, while I'm wearing the same light wool socks we used when making patterns. These are beautiful boots. My gosh they're nice, I I think I'm making a mistake by keeping them. Guess we'll be on the phone.
Bro please share more details on how you break in, please. I just bought a cowboy boots online a week ago and the situation is just like yours. I almost desperate.
I spent $400 on boots that are too uncomfortable to wear. They're 10" tall, and it punctures my upper heel area when I wear them for any amount of time. They are the Danner Ft. Lewis. Do you know any fix?
Carl you came on time with this vid. I was just checking those in brown horsebutt. They look SICK. Unfortunatelly I never had an engineer boot and I still have a lot of research to do in order to figuere out the best fit for me. In anycase, I will only know for sure when they are here. Do they make wide widths?
They do, I would be wary to buy made to order boots as your first engineer though. Mine were too tight and now sitting in their box, I would try engineers with a return policy or that you can try on. You could get nice fit off the bat with Briselblack, I know others that did, but it didn't work out for me.
I have these in 43.5 and they’re big on me. I’m a 10D in RedWing and 9.5D in Nicks/Viberg. The Bristelbacks are wide on me too. I’ve heard it’s more normal to standardize in E width in other countries… Hope this helps.
I spent $800+ on a pair of custom PNW engineer boots and they didn't fit over the instep. They were so tight just wearing them while sitting for 30 minutes was excruciating. I sent them back (at my expense) and the left boot came back so stretched out that I basically can't wear it. They said they could relast them, but that would be an additional expense for me. No thanks. My advice is to only buy "off the rack" and if you have to have a custom pair made, fly to them and have them take the measurements. It was a huge waste of money for me. Never again.
I took a chance on fortis boots this year. Was a terrible experience that left me with boots that do not fit. I used measurements that I have used multiple times with Wesco. Would not recommend them at all. Quality was also nothing like their IG shows.
They look awesome!! Although I've never understood why engineers are so expensive compared to cowboy boots. Maybe a little price difference but the difference seems to be just "wrong". Granted I'm a cheap grumpy (old ish) man. 😉 As always I enjoyed the video and the perspective at the end!! Cheers beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
@ Mate, you made a video about 900dollar boots that 99% of viewers will never see or hold, never mind own… they didn’t fit and you couldn’t be f*cked to actually show them… well… fitting. Whatever, man…
Uh oh, did you ask your wife first?
I did, in fact. We discuss all purchases over a certain dollar amount. It's why we have the financial freedom we currently enjoy.
Has to ask permission. Calls it "freedom". lol

One of your better videos. The five stages (especially the “incredibly masculine feet”) part was genius!

You put suede in water?
Spraying alcohol or witch hazel inside the boot works to stretch boots as well!
Thank you. I needed a good laugh today. You're the best.
Beautiful boots. I just got a pair from Imperium in black Shinki for $600. I’ll start wearing them once we drop a few more degrees here in Cali.

Im the Cinderella of engineer boots!
This has actually happened to me, and I gave up. I got one on but never could get the other one one.
You should definitely note “hot” not “boiling”. Boiling water shrinks leather almost immediately. Warm or cold water is safer than hot
That's the old Paratrooper trick.
Fill them with hot water, count to 5, pour it out and wear them until they are dry.
Haven't done that in decades.
The only pair I’ve had to do that on was (funnily enough) a pair of HH brown Jump Boots lmao
