Not a trick! We built the panel beforehand, and kept track of the positions and dimensions of everything before the tutorial. It takes forever to get things to line up by hand, we wanted to spare you the torture of clicking and dragging.
It's mostly an aesthetic thing. If you were to implement this on a physical touchpanel, there's a chance that the bezel will get in the way of you being able to press the button.

Where is the lights.png file
Can you just click and drag buttons around where I want them?
Is there a reason you place buttons slightly off-set from the sides?
Why place the power button at 12 and 40 instead of 0 0?
