    Do we think it might a an ESC problem, we know the traction control on these cars is not fully turned off, and that ECS system is responsible for controlling the traction control which controls the braking of the out side wheel when going around bends, if that is faulty it might be kicking in which might course the car to pull left or right?

I don't know how the clutches are meant to look originally. This is a complete guess by the way. The more suggestions the more likely we will come to a conclusion.

    Glad you got everything sorted out! I'm getting incredibly frustrated with my S280 setup. Its dropping boost to the tune of 4-5psi at over 5k rpms no matter how much boost I ask of it (even happens just running on the waste gate spring).
    I have pressure tested the entire high pressure side of the intake and am 100% certain there are no leaks around any of the worm clamps, checked all of the vacuum lines, brand new 14psi turbosmart waste gate which I re-adjusted to correct spec (3.5 turns), brand new boost solenoid, new spark plugs gapped to .27, cleaned the MAF sensor, and have hard pipes so nothing is collapsing.
    Only other two things I can think of, is the turbo itself is hurt, but it only has 3k miles on it at this point. Or, the intake manifold gasket is leaking like a civ.
    If you have any other suggestions I'd greatly appreciate your insight. Thanks as always!

      Have you had somebody check the mapping? I had an issue with the power seems to die off after 5k rpm. It was intermittent maybe every other Pull. It was a sensor flagging over the variable and dialing back boost. Mapping amended and no more issue. As you have checked all the mechanical stuff may be worth that being checked

    I know I could be very wrong. But is the torque vectoring kicking in. The idea of it as you know it to act like a diff. I wonder if it's kicking in and braking the one side as the diff is trying to work at the same time. It maybe causing the heat issue on the diff as its working harder. I may be totally wrong, just an idea.

  • @1krista1969
    @1krista1969 2 года назад

    The gearbox in these cars don't have good lubrication control under hard cornering with power applied. A clutch plate diff will require alot of cooling under hard use because of the friction generated heat. If localized lack of lubricant flow exists at the bearing or its oil starved altogether, heat will be generated very quickly and will burn up the inner race fast. The inner race doesn't have as much lubrication or heat sinking as the outer race, which sits in the case and receives alot more cooling. The inner bearing race on the ring gear side would be blue if there was enough heat created to discolor the diff, so i believe the heat in your situation came from the diff itself, not from the bearing. The only way to know is inspect the bearing that came off the ring gear side. Because the gearbox doesn't have any means of oil filtration, it relies on the magnet to pick up wear metal and isn't very effective with higher viscosity fluids. The other issue is insufficient fluid capacity. If I were to use this car on a track, I would install a temp gauge into the gearbox and monitor it closely. I'd also install an external circulation pump to cool and filter the fluid. I also wouldn't run a clutch plate style diff, only a mechanical locking diff. While they're not as smooth as a clutch plate diff, they generate less heat, wear materials and last longer. Quality control is a big issue on most of these locking diffs. My Quaiffe diff had .003" runout after bearing install, so I had to machine it flat before running it. You would think they catch that sort of thing before they let it go out the door. Its disappointing IMO for how much money they charge. Goes to show you how important it is to double check everything. It is the only diff Id run as Ford fits this from the factory on some of their cars.

    Within seconds of watching I thought, the diff's fucked. My past experience with classic Mini's and too much wheel spinning leading to broken diff planet gears causing the car to pull to the right before completely letting go and punching a hole in the diff housing, oil everywhere. Anyway am I missing something, why on earth did you not completely strip and inspect your diff when removed?? 🤦‍♂

      Distorted friction plates and / or surfaces will cause uneven preload under acceleration and possibly make the car pull. Clutch plate diffs in a fwd car is asking for trouble and reliability problems. The wear metal has to go somewhere, even if the magnet is doing its job. The other issue is the viscosity spread needed to keep gear and bearing wear in check doesn't support clutch friction plate linearity characteristics. IOW the lubrication requirements are different for both systems, so a compromise in lubricant type must be made which causes reliability issues.
