    Over 50 years ago, while attending Vietnamese Language School in Washington, D.C. we had a class next to us being taught in Burmese by a young Karen teacher. During a break I told her than some day I would love to visit her country, her answer was "The reason I am not living in my home country is because my government wants to kill me and my fellow Karens! You can visit that military dictatorship, but I can't!" That's when I first found out about the genocide ongoing in that Asian nation.

    A federal military is strong only if ONE rebel group at a time, in one direction, "starts troubles." If you have half a dozen major rebel groups, from every side of a nation started going at the central government at the same time, in a seemingly coordinated manner, it's going to be a very hard problem to deal with. And the Myanmar military now also has lost the support of the MAJORITY ethnic in the country, after putting that group's civilian leader in prison... so these Junta guys are likely going down with their "Hoonta Ship" to the bottom of the sea...

    • @LinKongDa
      @LinKongDa 6 месяцев назад

      Junta has always played the game "if everybody is the enemy then, I will be your friend" strategy to rule over Myanmar. Playing one force against another. Finally, they decided after the COUP to reveal that they are actually "the REAL Enemy of everyone". They might play the game again if things get messy. probably will if History is to be followed. I have ZERO hope of a peaceful transition. blood will flow like a river in Myanmar, it is already a torrent.

    • @ryanzer0170
      @ryanzer0170 6 месяцев назад

      No, a federal military is only strong, when the people they're fighting don't have the weapons they do, to fight back. It's easy when you have firearms and your opposition has rocks and sticks. Firearms don't make you a man. Doesn't matter how old you are, the fear of dying scares all men. It's easy when you know you have a weapon and your opponent does not. It's different now, with the possibility of being killed, is real.
      In my opinion, any military or police officer that shoots unarmed civilians, is a coward. They don't know what real combat is. The moment these cowards engage in real combat with people fighting back with the same force, they run and get their arses kicked. They don't fight with the same courage they once did, when they know their opposition is just as armed.

    As someone from Myanmar,
    I agree, it’s worrisome thinking about what will happen once the military collapses.
    I really pray and hope the NUG can hold the peace and bring all the different ethnic groups to form a new civilian government that represents everyone.
    It does give me hope that almost all groups were willing to have peace when there was a quasi democracy trial in the country. But honestly, after seeing how the world turned their backs on us, I have zero hopes and no desire whatsoever for them to ever get involved in our affairs.
    Our country is very diverse ethnically and our problems are too complex for most outsiders to understand, that is if they even care in the first place.
    It’s rare and heartwarming to see a few people caring and actually following this war so thank you so much for reporting on this war.🙏🏽

      I am not sure why people from Myanmar expect the world to step in to help. They were quite passionate in justifying the murders, rape and expulsion of the Rohingyas, basically telling the world to go and get stuff. It was only a few years ago that their leader tried to justified these crimes at the UN while Buddhist priests were ranting and swearing at the world to butt out. There are so much suffering in the world that there are not that much sympathy for those who think murders and disposessions of others are ok but not their own. As a follower of the Buddha, I find it hard to summon the required sympathy while a million Rohingyas are suffering in refugee camps or dying at sea.

And while in the past the junta forces would put up fights (and at least seemingly lose, since it IS propaganda after all), it is considerably less obvious how much it wants to fight now. Before the anti-junta forces would often have to engage in lengthy firefights, and edge closer in base attacks, they now seem to be able overrun them in a matter of minutes.

      I traveled to Myanmar twice in the mid-90s to serve the Kachin people, the first time to Myitkyina and the second time to Lashio. I will never forget those experiences, or the wonderful people I met. And God has not forgotten your people either.
      6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
      8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
      10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

    Something I've noticed is how the Myanmar government and military have underestimated the opposing forces, creating
    hubris while while military planners do nothing more than running in place.
    Ed do you think that if the central government makes a request to the CCP for direct assistance(military intervention) would they do it? India is on the western border which would make it very dangerous.

      Actually this is not something new. If I am not mistaken (correct me if I am wrong), General Ne Win turned a blind eye to the Chinese using Burmese territory to attack eastern Arunachal Pradesh (then known as NEFA) during the 1962 Sino-Indian war. This is because he received support from PLA to expel the Kuomintang troops from Myanmar which immediately preceded the Sino-Indian war. India got enraged by this and never forgave Ne Win for it. Relations were very tense and only normalised after Ne Win was deposed in 1988. Relations normalised but both the EAOs and Tatmadaw continues to blackmail India with their patronage of different insurgent groups. While Tatmadaw might help India to deal with one group (let us say NSCN), they would back and support other groups which carry out attacks in India (such as the Manipuri PLA). More than China, these aspects dominate India-Myanmar relations. It gets even more complicated when you factor in EAOs. For example, it is speculated that the creation of the Arakan Army was facilitated by China in 2009 immediately after India and Myanmar announced a transport corridor to increase trade and ease the logistic constraints of the Northeastern states.
      PS- If anyone wants to correct me, please be my guest.

      @@Orgruul Last year there was a deadly ambush on Assam Rifles battalion commander. Carried out by Manipuri PLA (which is a Metei group). They did not even spare his son and wife. He was sent to crack down on narcotics. Then already , there were speculations Manipuri PLA got reactivated (would be a blatant violation of bilateral agreements between Myanmar and India) by Tatamadaw probably post 2020 coup. Saying this some EAOs have also been supporting Kuki groups in Manipur. Not sure whether CDF is supporting them (doesn't seem to be the case) but certainly they are getting support from a EAO (M16s and other weapons spotted).
      The war has certainly spilled over to the Indian state of Manipur with the Kukis and Meiteis at each other's throat. Hopefully they can identify the troublesome elements within their community and distance themselves away from them.

On October 20, 2023, the armed organization of the fraud group massacred 70 Chinese people and buried 4 Chinese policemen alive, although the Chinese police identified themselves to them. But they still buried the four policemen alive without mercy. After the news was revealed, the Myanmar government refused to hand over the culprit. On October 27, 2023, the Kokang Allied Forces, which has close ties with China, claimed to have picked up a large number of advanced weapons and drones in the jungle. They issued a call to other ethnic armed forces and received all responses. On the same day, they launched a fierce attack on the Myanmar government. The decadent Myanmar government troops were retreating steadily. Four days later, the luxury villa of the leader of the fraud group who massacred Chinese and Chinese policemen was captured and the leader was executed, but Myanmar claimed that he committed suicide.
