- Hello my friends in the sewing lmasat lkhyata channel! Today, we will guide you through the steps to create a wonderful and distinctive short summer dress with just a meter and a half of fabric. This easy-to-follow tutorial is perfect for beginners and will result in a stylish and comfortable dress that's perfect for those hot summer days.
Materials you will need:
1.5 meters of lightweight, breathable fabric (cotton or linen works great for summer)
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Scissors
Measuring tape
Pins
Iron and ironing board
Step 1: Take your fabric and wash it to ensure it won't shrink after sewing. Once dry, iron it to remove any wrinkles.
Step 2: Fold the fabric in half, lengthwise, with the right sides facing each other. This will create a double layer of fabric.
Step 3: Using your measuring tape, measure the length you want for your dress, starting from the top edge of the folded fabric. Mark this length with a pin or fabric chalk.
Step 4: On the top folded edge, measure and mark the width of your dress's neckline, which can be a gentle scoop, V-neck, or any other style you prefer.
Step 5: Now, measure and mark the armhole depth starting from the side edges of the fabric. This will determine the size of the armholes.
Step 6: Cut along the marked lines for the neckline and armholes, carefully following your measurements.
Step 7: With the fabric still folded, create a slight curve at the bottom edge of the dress to form the hemline. Mark and cut it accordingly.
Step 8: Unfold the fabric, and you should have the front and back pieces of your dress connected at the shoulders.
Step 9: Pin the side seams together, making sure the right sides of the fabric are facing each other.
Step 10: Sew the pinned side seams using a straight stitch, leaving enough room at the top for armholes.
Step 11: Try on the dress to check the fit and make any necessary adjustments.
Step 12: Once you're satisfied with the fit, trim any excess fabric from the seams and finish the edges using a serger or zigzag stitch to prevent fraying.
Step 13: Hem the bottom of the dress to your desired length.
Step 14: If you want to add straps, cut two strips of fabric and attach them to the dress at the shoulders.
Step 15: Give the dress a final press with the iron, and you're ready to rock your stylish and unique short summer dress!
