I love this episode. The children of the fire nation remind me of the Hitler youth of nazi Germany. They're just kids living the only life they know and doing what the adults tell them to do. Being taught how to be obedient, hateful, and proud. And the adults are being manipulated by delusions and propaganda. Many people in the fire nation are good people once you remove the mental and physical shackles. They need to be liberated just as much as the nations they occupy, many of them just don't know it yet.
i love that it can be both an allegory of how not all people in fire nation is evil, they just got fed propaganda by their ruler and a freaking footloose parody. only this show can do that

I love Mai. She's great, you should try to give her a chance. She has a story too and she and Zuko are cute together. YOu were so busy being mad at them you missed that was one of only two times Zuko laughs the whole series. I think with her parents and Azula she's very repressed. She's being emotionally abused. You don't quite get to see that in her story. She doesn't quite get the character development some of the others do but I think she's cool.
They'll get to that one episode and see how they'll change their views i guess. She doesn't have a strong character arc like any of the others do so i understand why she's underrated or not talked about a lot. I definitely don't find her the worst character in the series though, she's pretty great.
The best part about this episode is Kuzon is gonna go down as a legend for them. Those kids are gonna grow up and be like “remember that one kid that threw us a party and disappeared? He was iconic. Shit was crazy.”

Iroh’s silence was kind of a tribute to Mako his voice actor. He died so they kept Iroh quiet until Mako’s brother was able to take up mantle. I think it was really sweet. Also still love your impression of Emo Zuko and Mai.
