@irishvale nessuna danza romana può essere filologicamente attendibile, poichè non esistono documenti riguardanti i movimenti o la gestualità.. si cerca di ricostruire in base alla musica (suonata con strumenti ricostruiti in base a documenti). Probabili sono delle influenze orientali,le danzatrici erano solitamente schiave. Ho fatto parte del gruppo che vedi per 15 anni..purtroppo solo gli abiti possono essere ricostruiti in maniera fedele grazie ad immagini ritrovate in scavi archeologici
The Roman word for dance is saltatio, jumping, there are Pompeian frescoes that show men and women playing flutes and tambourines and sort of jumping, there are images of women seemingly dancing in a circle. Etruscan frescoes also show dancers with flutes and tambourines jumping. The Salii, ( the jumpers) were a group of 12 Roman priest who would perform a sacred dance using shields and sword. That said there is scant evidence of how Roman music sounded and how the Romans actually danced. Roman aristocratic society frowned upon dance because it was not considered dignified. Dancers were often foreign slaves and because of this there was a lot of stigma attached to it.
However, in the later centuries dancing became an art, and many noble families paid private istructors to learn the art. Yes, dancers were pretty much kinda like concubines..many were called to entertain noble and rich people and were pretty able to seduce in a way. Since some dances were describes "lascivious" with a moving of hips but not to be confused with belly dance! Yes there might an influence but they are 2 differnt types of dancing. The most famous dancers were spanish :) for example, probably for a dancing school very famous but i' m not sure. As a dancer and re-anactor..i'm sorry to say but the choreo were a little boring.. I know, we don't have the right materials to create and actual accurate choreografhy but this is not really..accurate. I do believe yes in a slow seductive dance (ispired by oriental dance) since dancers were fully naked or with only see-trought veil, but we also know like you said Saltatio was the roman dance :) take a look at italian's pizzica for example us jumpy full of spins , i wuold not be surprised if it was passed on :) but i' m pretty sure that romans did more then jumps and turns but rather, i belive in for example carthweels, slipts ecc they were artists not just dancers! :) I know that everyone has their own dance experience and don' t get me wrong, everyone can dance! But some steps were really not to do..but good for them, i can at least see enjoyment in what they are doing and i think that is what it matters the most but yeah

Belen esos no son danzas Árabes , ni Musulmanas , son danzas de Sumeria,, Sumer y Mesopotamia (La danza del vientre ) que copiaron los Griegos y los Romanos a su vez de estos; la religión Islámica o Musulmanas MÁS O MENOS es del año 600 de nuestra era después de Cristo , y estas danzas y música viene de mucho más atrás.INDAGA.
Los romanos no bailaban, traían a las bailarinas de diferentes zonas, las más buscadas eran las del sur de iberia y de Asia menor. Por lo que estas danzas si podrian reprentar las que se bailaban en el imperio romano.
