Thanks Uwe for your very kind compliments. I enjoy sharing my woodworking projects with others. You too, stay safe and healthy. More videos to come!
I can’t even do that quality of work with power tools. Fantastic work.
This was a fun project. Thanks for visiting my workshop.
Beautiful project - thanks for sharing. One other benefit to easing the inside edges is that there is less surface to collect chalk dust!
Good point, Craig. It does. Thanks for the visit.
Great project - wonderful joinery. Thanks as always for taking us along. Looking forward to what comes next.
Hi Bob. Thanks for visiting us again. Yes, thinking about the next project already.
Brilliant, and so good to hear Mrs Treebangham's reactions in the background as you go. And she was definitely right about leaving the knot on show. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Simon. We're a team for sure. I rely on Joaneen's input a lot for every project and video.
Interesting project and history of slate chalkboard. Thanks for another great video!
Thanks David, I never know where my projects will take me. That’s why I enjoy woodworking so much!
Love it every home should have one!
Agreed! Thanks Lester, for visiting us again.
Yay! Great to see you on another show. The frame looks great. Wishing you guys all the best!
Thank you Ken. I enjoyed this project a lot and we're already putting the chalkboard to use. All the best to you.
Another really nice project 👍
Thank you Steve. The chalkboard was fun to make...and useful!
Beautiful! I see you in the next vídeo. Thanks for your work!
Thanks Joaquin. Best regards.
That was great, as always. What a team
Yes, Joaneen and I enjoy working together on these projects. Thanks Tony!
Great to see you back again. A nice project.
Good to be back. Thanks Brian.
Hi Ken and Joaneen, good to see another project, and in one video, that’s Great !
I even managed to work out how watch it on my tv, good viewing. Hope you’re both keeping safe and well.
Thanks Mike. Moved up to the big screen, good for you! Always nice hearing from you. Take care.
Thumbsed up and subscribed. You have a very calm voice. Great video.
A boat builder, a cabinet maker and a woodworker walk into a bar. They look into a mirror. It's you.
Allow me to refine that joke. A boat builder, a cabinet maker, a woodworker, a machinist and a master carpenter walk into a bar. You're very entertaining to watch. Thank you.
Sometimes I lose my calm voice during tricky glue-ups, but thank you!
Great project! Wonderfull result. I worked with these big chalk boards in the classes long time ago;-))
Thanks Ferd. As a child, a friend and I vacuumed all the erasers in our school after classes. We considered it a privilege.
@@treebangham Yes I know, 'been there done that' ;-))
I've been waiting so long.... Thank you so much, Cliff
This was a challenging project. Nice to finally use it! Thanks Cliff.
Love the idea as my wife is a former school teacher. Very traditional.
Yes, in this world of smart phones and all the other technology there's something nice about writing on a blackboard. Thanks for visiting us Terry.
I don't see myself making this exact project, but it's a great frame that I suppose could be used for anything else that could be framed. And I like the idea of putting the end grain in that orientation. Good to see another video although I would like to see them more often. Thank you.
Thanks for your input. The end grain orientation came to me at the last moment. Glad I did it. Best regards.
Great job ken hope all is well I bet cutting those bevels was scary after all the other work put in getting pieces ready 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Exactly. Tear out was a concern, especially after all that work. Whew. Thanks for keeping in touch.
Incredible work as always Ken! Wonderful choice of wood also, loved the video 👍
Hi Clint. Yes, I’m very happy with the figured maple…free wood, left over from another project! Joaneen and I leave notes on the chalkboard almost every day. Best regards.
hello Ken and Joleen,
I am glad to see you again and I hope you are well.
i like maple a lot, it has a very nice texture. the chalk board has turned out very nice. unfortunately i don't have a hand router so i will try the chisel or the electric router.
my brother is still happy when he goes to work with his japanese tool box, whitch is admired by all of his colleagues.
You (and I) gave him a very nice present, thanks again for that.
germany sends greetings
stay healthy the both of you.
Hi Willem. A chisel or router works too, use the tools you have. I'm glad your brother enjoys his tool box. All the best to you!
Hello alway glad to see you guys. What a great way to start a new year. I hope you have list of cool stuff. 😎 you made my day thank you
Glad to get another video out to our friends on youtube. More on the way!
Great show, Ken!
Thanks Thomas, glad you like it.
This build is fantastic. I have been looking for slate for a chalkboard build lately.
Thanks Vanessa. I am fortunate to live near a slate quarry. You can also find reclaimed slate from old school chalkboards. Good luck!
Very cool. And really liked the mini background on slate and wabi-sabi
I learn something new on every project. Thanks for the visit.
Thankyou mr 🙏🙏🙏 salam dari Indonesia.. Success
Hello Dafin. Thanks for visiting my workshop. Greetings from us here in the US.
Following from kingdom of Jordan 👍
Hello and thanks for visiting my workshop. Best regards.
Awesome, I appreciate you answering the very first question I had right off the top: Where'd you find that slate!?
Yes, lucky to live near the former slate capital of the US.
O my god , at last a new project , been waiting for a long time , thanks 👍 , welcome back 👌 .
Hello, good to be back. Good hearing from you again. Any projects lately?
@@treebangham No , I just e_ mail u ?? hopping to respond .😊
I was watching the video for the third time and I keep wondering that a chisel is essential tool in woodworking beside a hand plane and a router ! amazing indeed 🤔 .
That's for sure!
Excellent! I appreciate this video. Ciao! :-)
Welcome back Christian. Glad you enjoyed the video.
When you said, "highly figured," you weren't joking
Yes, made from lumber left over from my chest of drawers project. That board was quite a find!
Hi Ken, Thanks for the very educational video. Dad was a carpenter-joiner but didn't want my brother and I to get our hands dirty. But that was what we wanted most !! Of course when he would renovate old houses he bought for us, we would be required to hold the board he was sawing or the dry-wall/gip-rock he was putting up for the walls etc. You are a very skilled worker indeed mate. I have not bought a hand router plane yet and am curious about the one you have and the fence attachment. Is it a Veritas or Lie-Nielsen ? We have Veritas available an outlet called Carbatec in Wakerley (in Brisbane) but Lie-Nielsen are in Adelaide South Australia (a long way from here.) I have the Veritas plough plane but not all the blade sizes as yet, but that will be attended to shortly. I don't know about slate quaries but remember the boards growing up in the 50's and 60's years ago. Funny though, I have seen chalk at various arts and crafts suppliers. Probably in Tasmania (Launceston is the area I came from - in town a bit but also in Glengarry some 25 miles north of Launceston on the West Side of the Tamar River, turn left onto the Frankford Road at Exeter and 5 miles down the road.) Have a look at Tassy from Google Earth and go to Street level. It is beautiful. Still got lots of family there. Thank you again Ken, All the best, Brian
Hi Brian. The router and plow planes are essential tools in my workshop. They’re both by Veritas. The optional fence for the router is very useful, and for the plow I have the basic assortment of narrow blades (1/8th “ through 3/8”), but I know they make wider blades, tongue and groove blades (with wide blade conversion kit) and beading blades (with modified skate). Thanks for the visit from Down Under, I hope to visit there some day. I’ll have a look at Tassy.
Thank you Ken and Jonene for another great project. Ken when using the router plane, would it have been possible to clamp two pieces together and route the rabbet joints at the same time? Thus giving more support to the bottom of your plane as well?
Hi William. I suppose I could do that, but the groove would need to be twice as wide. That's 3/4". Thank you for the question.
helo un saludo desde México
Hola desde los Estados Unidos. Gracias por visitar mi taller.
15:10 what tool is that? is that like a manual router?
It’s called a router plane and it can perform many of the tasks of an electric router. It’s a versatile tool and I use it for trimming tenons, fitting lap joints and making dados. The version I’m using has an optional fence which allows me to make a stopped rabbet on the edge of a board. It’s an essential tool in my workshop.
People need to know you can buy Chalkboard paint!
Chalkboard paint???....what's that? Just kidding!
@@treebangham You can even make your own... ruclips.net/video/XY4c4KYvkxQ/видео.html
