I love that subtle touch of Zaraki loosening his grip on his sword so that his strikes will be lighter, as well as the shadow on his right eye that would be later covered by his iconic eyepatch. He’s the exact opposite of a shonen protagonist who tries to become stronger. Zaraki makes himself weaker so he can fight more opponents.

Honestly, I don't think it would have been any different. Kenpachi is unbelievably strong but he is also pretty much incapable of learning. Once he unlocked his Bankai that was pretty much it for his growth.

For Unohana, the first Kenpachi, nothing would please her more than fighting and dying at the blade of a stronger warrior. However, because she was weaker than Zaraki, Zaraki weakened himself just to keep having the joy of fighting. Unohana must have truly hated herself for committing such a heinous crime of being too weak. The idea that the "strongest" Shinigami had to have their opponent hold back for their sake is the ultimate proof of weakness.

And there's the thing to settle this whole, "Who's the strongest Kenpachi" deal... It's Zaraki. It has always been Zaraki. He was so strong that even "The strongest Kenpachi" couldn't match him as a child and because of this he choose to become weaker. This was never a fight to choose who would be the "Strongest Kenpachi alive". This wasn't a "If Zaraki wins, he'll be stronger but if Unohana does she'll be back to be a beast". From the very beginning the idea was to release Zaraki, she had no plans of anything else. Even if Uno were to go back to her full power, it wouldn't be enough for the battle ahead. And she knew that. That's why she had to give up her life to fulfill her duty as a captain of the Gotei 13. To ensure the strongest Kenpachi would be ready for the battle ahead.
Simply put. Current Unohana vs current Zaraki, she wins. No questions asked. But current/former Unohana vs unbound Zaraki? She never stood a chance.

Zaraki is definitely the strongest Kenpachi. But let's not act like Unohana couldn't have smoked him as a child if she wanted to. She didn't even use her Shikai, much less her Bankai. But definitely she saw he had more raw potential than her, and with her love of fighting she wouldn't have cost herself such a worthy opponent by using unfair methods.

@@RickyUzumaki993 I'm saying that even in the manga that shows more it is clear that she never used her shikai or bankai. They competed on blades and power where she definitely was weaker than him. Even in their duel to the death Zaraki killed her with his Zanpakutou, which he clearly would not have had as a child. In most other series I would say since the creator says it then it must be true, but this is Bleach. Nothing makes sense, often even to Kubo himself.

Zaraki and ichigo are very similar in the way that they both have their true potentials suppressed and they don’t know anything else other than simple attacks (no Shunpo and no Kidō) and still OP as hell.
Except Ichigo is mixed with almost everything in Bleach while Kenpachi was just born powerful being bred during the most dangerous and strongest generation of all.. he's the outcome of such a primal era..

Both Ichigo and Kenpachi know and use shunpo, I think. Ichigo in bankai form used it a hundred times, Kenpachi uses it every now and then.

@@lewisstamm3425 No, Unohana’s sin is she’s weaker than Kenpachi and because of that Kenpachi subconsciously sealed his power to match her in fear of losing the one who gave him satisfaction in battle and that is Unohona’s sin. That is why Unohana kept on killing and reviving him or should I say she revived him when he’s in a brink of death, as what kenpachi mentioned “I blacked out again” which is necessary to slowly remove the shackles Kenpachi put on himself to the point of finally able to release his full power and now able to hear his zanpakutou. If I remember the manga mentioned about thousand times of reviving Kenpachi from brink of death

You also debunked your own statement. Zaraki was also ‘Kenpachi’ during SS arc, and he got defeated by Ichigo without bankai. Ichigo had to go bankai and mask to defeat Byakuya. So that Byakuya was stronger than Zaraki at that point in time. So it’s not a who beats everyone 1 on 1. And please don’t start with the nonsense of Zaraki limited himself - that is not the point. That Zaraki would have got his head chopped of by Tousen if Tousen didn’t talk like an idiot and had just went for the kill. Like I said. Just go read what a Kenpachi is, and what is 11th division.

Here's something that's been bugging me; how the hell has Unohana not aged since way back when?
For the shinigami, I think age is kind of an illusion. They are just souls anyways, so the way things work with things like age or how they even have kids honestly doesn't make sense when you really think about it. It's made clear that Hitsugaya Toshiro only looks like a kid because he wants to. And Squad Zero members, some of whom by their very nature have to be older than most of the captains, including Yamamoto, all look relatively young in comparison.
Remember, Unohana is a master of healing arts so it shouldn't be big issue for her to maintain her looks.
She's good at healing,so I assume she's like tsuinade and also 106 in anime
Kidou, plus she has aged a bit.

What I don't get is that, they both, at this point, say they can't find someone powerful enough to fight apart from each other. Have they forgotten about Yamamoto? I'm sure he's powerful enough to give both of them a good and fun fight? Means Zaraki doesn't actually have to suppress his real strength? And Unohana complaining that there's no one strong enough to fight her before she's met Zaraki? But at this point she has already met Yamamoto. Super confused
Old Man Yama's Bankai, Zanka No Tachi, is overwhelmingly powerful, so much so that, if activated long enough, his opponent - as well as the Soul Society and himself - would be reduced to ash. Because of this, Unohana would never be able to fight Yama at his strongest since doing so would cause too much collateral damage for even the most bloodthirsty fighters. Beating Yama while he's restricted to his Shikai would feel more like a loss to her.
Zaraki suppressing his strength was on an unconscious level, meaning that he wasn't even aware he was holding back even after he took his eyepatch off. What Unohana discovered was that every time Zaraki was on the brink of death, his suppressing his power weakened at a miniscule level every time it happened. She learnt Kaido from Tenjirou Kirinji to prolong her fights, so she was the only one who could truly unlock Zaraki's potential. So, their fight in the Muken was Unohana essentially killing Zaraki over and over again and healing him so that his true strength would return and the suppression of his powers - including his own zanpaktou - would disappear for good.
After Yamamoto and Chojiro had defeated Yhwach and she became 11th Division's Captain, she met and fought Zaraki and after she saw him suppress his power, elected to swear off fighting and be a healer as a pseudo-penance to what she indirectly did to him. Zaraki disappeared after that, eventually finding a pink-haired girl who he called Yachiru (after Unohana) Kusajishi (District 79, where he found her) and re-emerging sometime after the Hollowification of the future Vizards and killed his predecessor, Kenpachi Kiganjo, to be the new Kenpachi and 11th Division Captain. Unohana and Zaraki hadn't met in person for a thousand years.

@@micci9865 Exactly, so since Yama at his strongest would cause unacceptable collateral damage (from Yama’s viewpoint) Unohana had to find someone else who could go all-out with her. And Zaraki DID fit the bill to a T, but restrained himself because he saw that Unohana was weaker (which was a massive bitch slap to her fighting spirit, no pun intended). So not only would bringing Zaraki back to his prime undo her ‘sin’, she could finally have, and die in, a glorious battle she had wanted for a thousand years.

maybe the word "anatta" that Unohana said here has 2 meanings, the first is as you said earlier, as i remember Unohana saw Kenpachi as a "man", and the second is just a form of her speech style which is always polite and formal.

kenpachi is just like that just skin is tough not really be strong like a monster But perhaps himself to be strong the strongest, these battles had never used the Bankai fought alone fierce at the cost of his life to the point of dying remained strong to continue to fighting, all who considered him a monster, kenpachi was somewhat disparaged by Mayuri And ichigo really thought who he is and wanted to try to win against Kenpachi

I have question, Why can't they both be alive and fight the war with their full power? Why does Unohana needs to be dead in order for Zaraki to be stronger.?
My understanding is that Kenpachi is not just a name, it's a title. Unohana was Kenpachi before Zaraki was. The "Kenpachi" has to ALWAYS be the strongest. There can only be one, and the title is always given through the death of the last Kenpachi.
However, Zaraki spared Unohana because he desperately wanted to have a good fight. He intentionally and also unconsciously further limited himself so that he could fight people who would give him no trouble if he actually put forth a real effort, which is contrary to the nature of Kenpachi.

The only reason Royd was able to hold out as long as he did is because he’s putting his Blut Vene into overdrive which is the Quincie’s defensive ability. Zaraki doesn’t have a defensive ability like that. 15,000,000 degrees Celsius is literally the same as the sun’s core dude. How can you say that’s not hot? And even if he could get close, Yama is literally untouchable because Kenpachi’s zanpakuto would just melt off instantly the moment it made contact with Yama’s body as you saw with Royd’s sword.

It really irritates me, Bleach logic. How did A CHILD land even a scratch on someone who had mastered over 1000 styles? Beyond one blow, how did an untrained child stand for longer than 10 seconds?
People salivate over Zaraki being the strongest, but the logic is still ridiculous. This woman spent her energy fighting him without holding back while having the wherewithal to know when he would die and healing him before he did. Eventually, she's killing and healing within seconds.
Zaraki may be the strongest, swings his sword the hardest. Just not seeing why we didn't let Unohana loose on the battlefield.

@Power Of Berzerker Yes, I saw it. The question is: why does everyone, including the author, forget that she did the exact same thing? For way longer with more skill? She should still be more powerful than him at every level by the story's own admission (the OG 13 being the most powerful captain generation).
This weird obsession people have with the fiat idea of strength (he's strong because people say he's strong, but he never proves it more than any other character) is both sad and boring. Give us a character who can be a beast and interesting. Give us a character who proves they are powerful and has depth, an arc.
